It would be a little difficult for the bluetooth part of the chip not to be wired up, I mean it would have to be done during manufacturing(if it's inside of the chip). Which can just as easily happen as an amazon exec calling up TI and saying to take it out lol. Or it could be as simple as not soldering all of the pins on the chip, I'll look at some pictures of the chip on iFixit and see if I can tell if it's wired to the circuit board at all.

That's one of the things that had pushed me away from getting a KF in the first place(the other one was the lack of MicroUSB).
