After booting & seeing the flashcast screen, chromecast does not automatically reboot. I did see the white LED (briefly). I did then do the regular setup, adding my wifi to the device, and then I rebooted into flashcast, for checking the logs using ssh.

That's very odd. Can you pastebin the output you get from running dmesg in the SSH session?

Noob question on this: will flashing this allow me to use my Chromecast on multiple Wifi networks? That's the only reason I have one. I read this thread, and no one asked the question at all.

Multiple wifi (home, work, the old lady's house) for one chromecast

FlashCast is simply a way to install mods on your Chromecast. It does not make any modifications to the stock OS on its own. I am not currently aware of any mods which allow multiple Wi-Fi networks to be configured.

Yeah, that looks like it's a bad mass storage device. To be honest, I'm surprised it even booted at all.

is there a way to run the script from a remote location while I'm logged into the chromecast? Or run the script that crashes so I can see if I can alter it somewhere somehow?

I put the eureka img on the flashdisk partion I manually created in the prev post, and rebooted the cchromecast.
after I'm stuck again on the flashcast screen, with a RED led, I reinserted the usbstick again, and I had the guts to run "flasher"

which is currently either bricking my device or flashing it with a mod...

It just rebooted... and I get the chromecast pwnd logo

I saw this screen, I unplugged, rebooted, same loop

then I attached flashdisk again, I can still boot flashcast, but it does not connect to the wifi. I tried connecting a keyboard, but no luck (not even ctrl-alt-del) on getting a shell


so I rebooted, and I'm trying the google autofix now...
I guess OTA are out of the question (wifi setup erased), so wondering what is happening


reboots again..stuck... brick...


suggestions?

Another thing to keep in mind if the flashcast comes up on the screen then your on the right track. I attach the power last too the cable, soon as the light turned from red to white on the Chromecast I let go of the button. It went thru it's steps few mines later. It rebooted first step done!
NOTE: you'll automatically know that everything is going good when you pop the usb stick back into the laptop/computer, it'll come up as flashcast. Because I noticed that's what mine did.
Then I just loaded the eureka image v1.1 on the usb stick went thru the process once more... 5 mins later done.............

Well got the new cable in today, and the same results happen. I used the hub way with the same result, then the one I made, then the one I ordered off amazon. powered one All have made the same results. Not sure where to go at this point.
I've also tried 3 different flash drives, either on linux, or windows both gave a successful completion that the image was written on all 3 drives. I have re-downloaded the image several times, just to make sure I wasn't getting a corrupt image.

That partition table is correct. Your SD cards seem to be working fine, except for the fact that they aren't detected when FlashCast boots. Can you try using a real flash drive instead of a MicroSD adapter? I've had trouble with adapters not being detected properly in the past. Your device is certainly not bricked. If FlashCast can't find network info to connect to on the /data partition (which it can't after you ran flasher, which wiped it), it will put the interface into AP mode and you'll be able to connect to the "FlashCast" Wi-Fi network and SSH in like normal.

From that flasher output, it looks like @ddggttff3's mod was flashed correctly, so I'm not sure why you're seeing a black screen when you do a normal boot.

I just used dd again just to make sure I was getting a clean write. I reformatted the drive, and dd it again. I hooked up everything, and it worked! I got the flashcast screen. I plugged in the drive, which was labeled "flashcast" Thanks for all your help, and making this possible.
