I bricked my phone while trying to install a new rom. Couldn't boot past the Galaxy S logo/text, can't get into CWM recovery, but download mode works.
I've tried to flash FeaModRecovery now with Odin v3.07, seems stuck at "NAND write start!!" for 1 hour. Normal?

I've already bought me a Galaxy S4, but would like to access the Galaxy S to retrieve photos, notes and phone numbers.

juz follow mr EwOkie instruction at da post #1 by putting PDA, MODEM, PIT & CSC, boot into download mode n flash it, make sure u plug it well, it will bring back da firmware n fone to life, n flashing with odin doesnt even format or delete ur file inside internalsd.

As long as you can get into Download Mode / Recovery your phone is capable of installing back to Stock and then Custom Rom :good:

EwOkie, since you are using Saurom ROM, you should probably know. It mentions that there is an aroma installer, something interactive when flashing it. I used your ODIN FILES, and I tried stock JWB + semaphore kernel from Saurom ROM thread, whenever I start to flash it, I get no interaction from it. Is there some special CWM version that enables aroma interactive installer?

If you read the Rom Theme (mine) it mentions to use Stock Theme Installation with Aroma for My Theme is that what you meant?
As this is the Full Rom to Flash with CWM....

Also please put questions on the Theme post Section as this is for Flashing JVU first

Problem: Can't open zip folder

To move Up or Down > Use the Left Side Volume Rocker Switches with Menu to OK Action
[/B]
Install your Custom ROM from Zip Card that you want...

Reboot Phone when complete... DONE!

Please Check APN Settings.. for your area after you have done the following steps to give better signal
Sometimes Authentication Type is set to Default..try it at PAP and then Reboot Phone
As some ROMS APN settings are done manually for the user.. so be careful

Rom I am currently using : Blue SAUROM JWB

I did this and it said that it cannot access/open the zip file so it was aborted?
Please help.. newbie here!

I see there is a lot of people who post in here who dont know how to Flash JVU before Custom Rom with ODIN
Either they get the Red wipe error in Recovery or just arent sure on how to use it, hope this helps you...

THE TOPICS HERE ARE GUIDES ON HOW TO FIX OR USE :

    FEAMOD RECOVERY INSTALL

FAILED TO MOUNT SD CARD (E: FAILURE IN RED)
COMPUTER NOT CONNECTING TO PHONE VIA USB
    UPDATE TO CYANOGENMOD 10.

AND LINKS TO WHAT YOU NEED ...... :D

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Red wipe error is because the problem is with the dbdata!

Install THIS FILE in the PDA section with ODIN and dont touch anything else!

DBDATA.RFS DOWNLOAD : If you need it ;)

    Open ODIN
Click the PDA button and choose the dbdata.rfs.tar file you downloaded
    Make sure Re-Partition is unchecked
Boot your SGS into DOWNLOAD MODE
To do this : Hold down the Home, Volume Down and the Power button
Connect your device to your computer with the usb cable when in Download Mode
If your device is connected Odin will recognise it
Click Start in Odin and wait
When the process is completed your device will restart
    No more dbdata errors!...

*Using PIT File just Tick Re-Partition and put PIT File in PIT ..simple!

    ODIN 1.85
    ODIN FILES HERE

Turn off your phone and put it in download mode by holding VOL DOWN+MENU+POWER
Do you get the Yellow Triangle?..If so continue..if not do it again...

VIDEO LINK : HOW TO GET INTO RECOVERY / DOWNLOAD MODE

Open ODIN and select 512 .PIT, and put in your files for : CSC, PDA, MODEM
*PIT File isnt always needed to do this only if you get the 3 Red errors*

Plug in Phone with USB Cable To Computer

Check Re-Partition option and then Cleck PIT button to select: s1_odin_20100xxx.pit file.

Unplug the Cable to the Phone
    Power Off Phone

Go into Download mode so that we can now root the Phone
    Then plug in Phone

Click Reset on ODIN then in PDA put in CF-Root Kernel File for JVU to be Rooted
CF-Root is in ODIN FILES or DOWNLOAD HERE
Then Click START.. should take just a few seconds ....

    Root_XXJVU_600x434.jpg

Same again when you see S Logo on Phone unplug Cable
    Close ODIN

Now, what I do now is go into :
Settings > SD Card and Storage > Unmount SD and Wipe that and then at the bottom Wipe Format USB Storage

Enable USB Debugging > Plug in Phone
Window should open up showing your phone Directory..
Copy over your ROM that you want
    Shut Down Phone

Reboot into Recovery (Vol UP - Menu - Power)
Wipe the 4 things (probably know these... you should do)

    Data / Factory Reset
    Cache Partition

    Go to Advanced > OK

    Dalvik Cache
    Battery Stats

    Go Back > OK

To move Up or Down > Use the Left Side Volume Rocker Switches with Menu to OK Action

Hope this helps out a few people as there are quite a few posts opening up with the same problems or issues :good:

Procedure To Update Samsung Galaxy S With Cyanogenmod 10

Device must be running latest Gingerbread 2.3.6 with ROOT to begin .....
Remove KIES completely from Phone and reboot Computer then Install latest Samsung USB Drivers then Reboot Computer...
Ensure that your phone battery is at least 85 percent charged

    Cyanogenmod 10 Download
    Download Google Apps (Optional)

Connect your device to PC by using the cable.
Enable mass storage mode on it.
Now transfer / copy all the 2 files to your device’s internal SD card.
Ensure that you are not keeping it in deep directory.

Now disconnect the phone from computer.
You then need to enter into recovery mode.
To do so, switch off the device completely, press & hold Volume Up button + Home Button + Power key until recovery mode appears.

After entering into recovery mode, select “install zip from sdcard” & then “choose zip from sdcard“.
Navigate to the ROM file (which you’ve transferred earlier)
Select it & press on ‘Yes‘ to continue. ROM installation process will start.

Wait for the ROM to get installed.
After ROM gets successfully installed, your phone will land in the recovery mode again.
Now select wipe data/factory reset & wipe cache partition to wipe all the data & caches from the phone memory.

The same procedure you have to do for installation Google Apps. (Just don’t do the above step i.e, don’t wipe the data after installations of Gapps).
After installaing both things, now press back button to land in recovery mode.

Select reboot system now from the Recovery mode to Restart the phone.

Usually first boot of the phone takes some time after flashing of new ROM so be patient....

    Done!

Issues if you have any :

LOW STORAGE NOTIFICATION : HERE or See this LINK
If the above doesnt help TRY THIS APP
    NO MOBILE DATA :
    Toggle Flight mode ON/OFF
    IMEI Issue :
Flash a stock version of Android for your device: GB 2.3.6 (JVU, or other) that will restore your IMEI
Then you can backup the /EFS folder.
    NO 3G AVAILABLE :
The CSC you used is most likely not intended for your area.
This means that the broadband provider settings are not included and
    need to be configured manually.
Go to : Settings->Wireless and Networks->Mobile Networks->Access Point Names, press the settings-button and select "New APN"
