Welcome to the Samsung Rugby Pro (SGH-I547) Super Thread

As a continuation of my work on the Rugby Smart I'm pleased to present Rugby Pro super thread. Enjoy and happy hacking.

If you create a support thread related to items in this super or for more generalized help, please PM me as a heads up. I've been doing a lot of work on getting things going for the device and can likely provide some amount of help. I am not responsible for anything bad that comes to your device when using the information posted in this thread. Everything here is dangerous, may cause a brick, will void a warranty and has the potential to just plain wreak havoc. Do not complain you followed my instructions and met with a dead device. Consider yourself warned

I've tested to the best of my ability, but I am one person with one device, I cannot catch all potential failure modes. If you find a problem and a fix, or have information that should be added let me know and I will update the necessary information.

Big thanks to Dees_Troy for making the SGH-I547 an official TWRP device.
Thanks to childrenofthehorn for help with getting some things up and going
Thanks to motorhead1991
Thanks to utkanos for help with getting CWR and initial partition mappings down

I ran it through dsixdas kitchen, I've tried with tweaked boot.img and then I pulled the boot. Img from the official rom with the same results

I can take a look at it if you like. PM me with some of the details and we can go from there.

I think the only thing screwing me is my updater script, getting a status 7 error when it comes to flashing the boot. Img

That could be it. Can you post the updater script?

Also, checkout the update.zip below. If you poke through the zip it will show you some tricks on how to write an img file out to a raw partition. The update is something another dev and I put together for updating the modem of a device. Works the same as the boot.img.

I've successfully applied the latest AT&T OTA to my device and worked the usual magic to create a set of update files for those running non-stock devices. I've created an update.zip for the baseband update and an ODIN image for system/boot updating. I'd recommend using the files below to run your upgrade as the OTA caused my data partition to be wiped (aka: lost all my data / apps).

This is AT&T ONLY. These updates should NOT be applied to the Canadian variant.

    Update Files
    Modem/Baseband: cwr_modem_uccmf2.zip (19.8Mb, update.zip)
    Boot/System: comanche_uccmf2_boot_system.tar.md5 (715Mb, 1.18Gb extracted, ODIN)
    Root: cwmr_root.zip (661Kb, update.zip)

    Quick procedure for upgrade
    1. Install TWRP / CWM
    2. Copy cwr_modem_uccmf2.zip to phone data or sd card
    3. Copy cwmr_root.zip to phone data or sd card if you want to root
    4. Reboot phone in download mode
    5. Launch ODIN
    6. Disable "Auto Reboot"
    7. Disable "F. Reset Time"
    8. Flash comanche_uccmf2_boot_system.tar.md5 using odin
    9. When "PASS!" is up pull battery (Home, Volume Up, Power -- Release power after blue text flashes, hold rest until Recovery logo shows)
    10. Boot immediately into recovery
    11. Upgrade baseband (required, cwr_modem_uccmf2.zip)
    12. Root if desired (comanche_cwmr_root.zip)
    13. Wipe Cache
    14. Wipe Dalvik
    15. Reboot system

Native Wifi Hotspot (tether) for JB version of software

I went ahead and created a version of the /system/framework/framework-res.apk file that does not check for provisioning from AT&T so that we can use native Android tethering on our phones. I used apktool and followed basically the process as discussed here: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2057344.

REMEMBER to BACKUP YOUR PHONE before attempting any modifications :good:

Following is the steps to complete the process via adb and I have following a link to the modified framework-res.apk file (the full size is over 30MB)

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/0lb4kdv2g2wav06/framework-res.apk

A flashable cwm .zip file:https://www.dropbox.com/s/iopy7rznxc3wbxa/frameworkWifi.zip Please report back on if this works as I have not been able to test 2/10/13

    Code:
    # copy the framework-res.apk file to the root of your adb directory
    # plug in your device and verify adb is connected
    # mount /system and /sdcard via CWM recovery

    adb push framework-res.apk /sdcard

    adb shell

    su
    mount -o rw,remount /system
    mv /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework
    chmod 644 /system/framework/framework-res.apk

    # From the CWM Advance Menu wipe Dalvik Cache
    # Also wipe the Cache partition from main menu
    # unplug device and reboot
    # You will get an "Android is upgrading..." message which is just the system rebuilding the Dalvik Cache

You can now remove, disable or move the TetheringProvision.apk and TetheringProvision.odex files from your /system/app folder. I personally use Root Explorer and just create a /system/app-back folder which I move unwanted system files into - I then have "clean" system but access to any files I decide to later want...
