[BACKUP][RECOVERY] Kindle Fire HD and 2 First Aide Software - Noob (Simple) Version

Is this correct on a restore, or an error

I am wondering if this correct or possibly symptomatic of the other problems I am having
KHD7, Win7

The screenshot is too small to read but if its saying

target reported max download size of 100xxxxxxxsomething
sending....
okay (time)
writing....
okay(time)
finished (total time)

you can ignore the not automatically formatting and file system not supported error message it's normal

and continues with rest of the files
then yes it worked correctly nothing wrong here

But please... take bigger screenshots!

No i was just too tired so i went to bed and forgot to queue the 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th files
need to ask you, step 6 in hashcode's thread, should i do it or just flash the new custom rom instead?

step six is skipable, after making the step 5 flash the rom kinology

Nothing works for me....

Can't seem to root with this tool. I keep getting errors that files are not found....also, my option 20 is not longer there, it says "The system cannot find the file specified."

Tried to option 38
"cannot stat 'kfhd7\build.prop' : No such file or directory

Well, the image i use for recovery is already rooted with su installed so i haven't tried option 21 because i don't need it anymore, Therefore i'm sorry i can't be of help to you, but you can take screenshots of the output and post it, I guarantee your issue will be looked at within 30 mins

I use Auto Screenshot maker to take multiple screenshots rapidly for large output that can't be captured with one screenshot

about option 20: It's root for software 7.2.1 so you don't need it right now

And yea i posted option 38 output yesterday and i'm waiting on chris to reply, they're probably aware of that issue now and working on it, A new version will be out soon i hope

Any chance you could save me a bit of searching, and provide a link to the process required? Thanks a lot, think I may go and buy a micro USB cable locally to hack at. Think I've got the pin out for a factory cable saved as a JPG somewhere.

i'll try to find you some pictures now but to break it down, You will have to hack at the ruber/plastic around the micro B usb until you can see the ends of the 4 wires, do it carefully since you might accidentally cut one of the wires or pull it out of its place, once you do that you will be able to see 5 pins, 4 of them soldered to 4 wires, With 1 empty pin, This is pin 4 and the red wire (vcc+) is soldered to pin 1, Bring a piece of wire and carefully solder it to the empty pin 4 and then there are 2 ways you can proceed:

Either:

1- Solder the other tip to pin 1 along with the red vcc+ wire (Not recommended)

-----------------------------------------Or------------------------------------------------

2- Carefully remove the insulation around the red wire somewhere like 3-5 cm away from the tip and simply Wrap the other tip of wire around the Uninsulated wire and use scotch tape to secure it (That's how i made mine, And i prefer it to the first method because if you make a mistake you will end up desoldering the red VCC+ wire from its pin)

Word of advice: You may get it right from the first attempt and you may not, So get 2 or 3 micro USB cables, Just in case.

Thanks a lot, I should probably have been clearer, I meant what to do once I've made the cable, connected the kindle to the PC, and the kindle is in fastboot mode

You're pretty sure this will still work, even though with a normal cable, ADB doesn't work, with nothing in device manager? Thanks again.

Unroot Question

When the device is "unrooted," obviously programs that require root to operate correctly will not work. E.g. Titanium Backup. But, will e.g. the Google play installation and installation of the Google services remain on the device? I assume that they would, correct?

Yes i'm positive this will work i've been in this situation more than i can remember now, Probably +15 times (I love tinkering)

First of all do you have a KFHD 7" system.img backup? If you don't then start at step 1, if you do have them start at step 3

1) Download a stock rooted 7.2.3 image from this link

(Prokennexusa's dropbox, I hope he doesn't mind i pulled the links from inside the runme.bat code)

2) rename those files to
stock-boot.img
stock-recovery.img
stock-system.img

3)Place the 3 files inside backup folder (C:\KFFirstAide\backup)

4)Open runme.bat choose option 26

you will be asked if you would like to restore, Type Y and enter.

Then you will be asked if you would like to reboot into fastboot, You are already in fastboot so, Type N and enter.

Then you will be asked if you want to restore system partition, Type Y and enter.

Sending the file will take 5 minutes and writing will take 80 seconds

then you will be asked if you would like to restore boot and recovery partitions. Type Y and enter.

If you CAN'T LOSE the files on the kindle, Then when you are asked if you want to wipe cache and user data, Type N and enter, Otherwise it is recommended that you do.

Then your device will reboot and that's it!

If you need help just ask

AmrBanawan - that is perfect, thank you so much. I've seen something like that before, but after bricking this device, I really don't want to muck up recovering it!
One little thing, my kindle is a Kindle 2 (non-HD), I'm assuming the partitions images are different? Sorry for not mentioning it earlier I keep forgetting that some of the sub-forums are shared with the HD series as well. Do you happen to know where I could get the Kindle 2 downloads? Are all the rest of the steps still the same? Sorry for all the hand-holding requests, in my "normal" ID here on the forum, I do try and help out others when I can
