To add to the troubleshooting questions, can anyone offer suggestions to try and track down high battery usage by the system?

Running v5.0_U20 and everything seems stable. Some times it runs 24 hours with minimal usage.
However on occasion with the same usage pattern, I get very high battery usage and am having trouble pinpointing whats causing it.
For example, the last time it happened, in 4 hours battery dropped 50%. The usage listed Android System as 73% of that usage.

Previously it has listed Android System as the main culprit as well, but that doesn't help me much in finding whats actually causing it.

Any thoughts?

Yes, this is only part of rom which can be improved battery drain. I'm still have high battery usage mainly screen and connection, on idle battery drops 10% on every 6-8hours. In that field CM 10.1 is way better i confirmed it myself already...

In terms of wifi never had any problem with this rom but I can not really criticize since i not consider myself hardcore user of wireless on our phone.

The main thing causing such behaviour is a kernel module (eg driver) failing to load or unload. A good example is the GPS sensor, failing to unload after making a facebook post that includes your location. I've also experienced the same behaviour with the bluetooth modules, camera sensor, accelerometer (rotation), and of course wifi. The worst situation I encountered was taking a photo that included location data, and both the camera and gps modules failed to unload. Generally, they get stuck in a loop trying to unload and never let the phone go to sleep.

A reboot resolves it, and because it's a one-off situation the underlying cause is only really of interest in terms of understanding whether your phone or usage patterns means that a particular sensor or module is responsible more often than others. This will allow you to change your behaviour or watch out for particular situations where it might increase the likelihood. However there's not likely to be a fix, except maybe clearing cache/data on a particular problem system app.

I use BetterBatteryStats (http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1179809) to help identify the problem module, and it also has the ability to help bring the situation to your attention early using the Watchdog feature or the Active Monitoring feature - but I have never had much luck with that ;)

And don't forget the GPS issues. For example try any gps speedometer app and you will come to know that you get wrong speed values that often take some time to show correct value, moreover loosing locks frequently making it impossible to use for continuous navigation.

CM 10.1 is discontinued :( Only thing preventing me from using it daily: bluetooth. So back to good ole Aurora. One thing I liked very much in CM10 is the search key acting like 'sleep' / power off or whatever it's called.
It took me some searching to find a simple clear how-to, maybe u r interested:
http://mobility.forumsee.com/a/m/s/p12-9772-0105391--mod-search-key-power-button-cm10.html
inside our phone it's the generic.kl to modify to POWER WAKE
needless to say you can remap to whatever you want ...

I am sorry for the question, I tried to read all the posts but I only managed to get to page 200. I can not read all 800 pages.

I would like for someone to explain to me, how to I manage to upgrade from aurora 4.0.4 to 5 update 20.
Do I have to go back to gingerbread?

I have to go from 4.0.4 to 5 and then to 5 v20 without going to gingerbread?

Sure,u can directly go from aurora 4 to v5 update 20.It is just better to make a clean install.wipe data/cache/dalvik before u go.

Forget gingerbread cuz u're already on it if u use v4.

If you mean from aurora v4 to v5 update 20, first you need to flash v5_experimental and then v5 update 20.

I've updated to 5.20, and overall performance seems better than 4.a1.

Th phone is faster, even when low on memory. 4.a1 showed serious performance issues when memory was below 60Mb, and with 5.20 it has good performance when it is around 45Mb.

The only issue I have to report is the reboot I get when I turn on Wifi. It happens most of the times. The phone just freezes and then reboot.

But when it reboots, the wifi is already on, and works really nice! And I can also turn off/on wifi several times that it won't reboot.

I don't know why it does that, and I didn't notice if it was due to a combination of apps. I was using any when I turned on wifi, nor had GPS connected, nor plane mode.

Try the update 21 it is somewhere on the last posts. I haven't had a single reboot on my u8800 with u21

    About
    underline.png

This is a clean ICS ROM built from from the Qualcomm Code Aurora source.
Everything is functional including the camera, video recording, bluetooth and GPU acceleration.
This is based on the ics_chocolate branch and a new version is released regularly.

    https://www.codeaurora.org/xwiki/bin/QAEP/ics_chocolate

Full source is available on github, see here:http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=22770874&postcount=747

    Features
    underline.png

3.0.8 Kernel running at 1GHz default.
    Google apps included

    Known Bugs

Use this issue tracker to report bugs/problems:

    http://code.google.com/p/ics-aurora/issues/list

If you get a reboot, do the following from a terminal or over adb:
    Code:
    su
    cat /dev/block/mmcblk0p7 > /sdcard/crash.txt
Then post the crash file (if it has anything in it) here or on the issue tracker.

    Installation
    underline.png

To install, you must have upgraded to the official gingerbread rom and installed CWM recovery 5.0.2.7 or 5.5.0.4.
You will have to wipe data when you first install but upgrading shouldn't need a wipe unless it is stated in the release notes.
Some instructions on upgrading are here: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=22682229#post22682229
    and here: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1420728

Users in Finland on the Saunalahti network need to change a setting for the sim card to load correctly.
download a terminal program such as connectbot and open a local session, then type:

    su
    setprop persist.opl.enabled 0
    setprop persist.pnn.enabled 0
    setprop persist.eons.enabled 0

    Now reboot.
You only have to do this again if you wipe data.

    Thanks

This doesn't affect the functionality but is annoying.
It does full 720p h264 with audio.

    Version 1.6

Fix a bug that caused the gpu to sometimes crash when the display was switched off.
Enable autobrightness (don't think it actually works yet though)

Fix picture rotation for the camera.
Add smartass2 cpufreq governor, I don't care about this but somebody asked for it.

fix strictmode not turning off (may need a reboot)
fix raw picture mode for camera (not very useful)
set build type to user rather than eng

Use version 0.8 of wpa_supplicant with wext library (should help with wifi connection problems)
    Fix atmel touchscreen
Add settings for dualmic and headset to settings app (in Sound) - property names had to change so you will need to set them again.

    Version 1.12a
    Fix 720p video recording

    Version 1.13
Use the 2d graphics core for composition - should make graphics faster and use less power (set debug.composition.type=gpu in build.prop if you don't like it)
Update power profile so battery stats work better
Some gps changes (not tested well)
Remove some unused resources to reduce the size of /system

Disable some GPIOs that were unnecessarily enabled (may save some power)
    Update FM radio

    Version 2.04
    Update to M7630AABBQMLZA404030I release
Fix torch in Notification drawer and add torch app
Add new wifi driver, enable it from Settings..Developer Options
The new driver uses much less power and stays connected when the phone is asleep but doesn't work with WEP networks and may be more buggy.
Update GPU drivers to the binaries that were released by Qualcomm.
Enable gpu composition, 2D is slower but some apps work better.
Change Bluetooth power level to 2. May help BT connection problems.
Saunalahti users note that the SIM loading hack has changed - see the installation instructions.

    Version 2.05
Update to kernel version 3.0.8 (ported from u8860 with lots of work), this may be less stable than earlier versions.
Only the new wifi driver will work, the settings app still shows a choice but changing it won't do anything.
New wifi config file (thanks to sbasil).
Fix the date in exif tags for photos.
Fix button backlight, now has autobrightness too.
    Fix photo editor crashing.
Use CAF radio app (has a horrible interface but the old one no longer works). Supports rds.

    Version 2.06_experimental
Update to latest ics_chocolate (caf_AU_LINUX_ANDROID_ICS_CHOCOLATE.04.00.03.05.169 manifest)
This is Android version 4.0.4 so there are lots of changes from 4.0.3 and that is why it's experimental.
Fix camera picture corruption (camera may still not be completely stable)
Fix wifi not seeing some APs
Fix some causes of wifi reboots.
Warning: Since this is a new Android version you may not be able to downgrade without clearing data so make a backup first.

Change touchscreen mode to avoid jitter
    Update some proprietary binaries
Fix failure to send vreg rpc to the modem from causing battery drain sometimes
    Wifi fix for occasional reboots
In /system/etc/firmware/wlan/qcom_cfg.ini I have set gMaxPsPoll=1 because without this wifi doesn't stay connected during sleep. Some people claim this gives problems when connecting to certain APs but I have never seen this.

    Version 2.08
Fix SD card detection using a gpio interrupt
Free 33M ram by reducing the size of the surfaceflinger cache and the camera record buffer
Fix a couple of memory leaks in the wifi module

Revert to older version of the ril because some people had problems with mobile data
Use older wpa_supplicant to fix wifi connection problems
Use the new kgsl driver again since the old one didn't seem to fix anything
Remove the software opengl lib from egl.cfg

The second option will enable Mass Storage (for languages other than English, this will be displayed as PTP mode)

    Version 3.1
    Fix Pinyin Keyboard
    Use small wifi driver again
Use version 2.0 wpa_supplicant. (this may cause problems with some APs but I think it's better to use this than version 0.8 because the rest of the system is designed for it). If it doesn't connect to an AP, post a log giving all the details and I'll try to fix it.
Add /HWuserdata as a symlink to the internal sdcard
Use settings..storage..menu..USB Computer Connection to switch between usb storage and MTP mode (some people have reported lost data on the card when doing this, you have been warned). MTP mode is probably what most people want.
Fix battery reporting for the backlight.
    Reduce flashlight LED brightness.
set modprobe path correctly so modules will load
    Updated network drivers
Update to latest sd card, fb and kgsl drivers.

Add battery percentage option in settings..development

    aurora_3.1_update3 (Includes fixes in update1)
    Fix bluetooth pairing.
    Fix searching for available networks.

Add "strip unicode" and timestamp options for SMS (thanks to mrasquinho)
Fix for bluetooth not sleeping correctly
Some updated translations in settings (thanks to mrasquinho and one-2-z)
A possible fix for wifi crashing on wakeup
Fix for a rpc wakelock never being released sometimes

    Fix Gallery causing reboot
Fix laggy transitions on some devices
    Update Mms translations by mrasquinho

    aurora_4.0
update to new CAF release M7630AABBQMLZA404032I
This is on a new release branch - ics_chocolate_rb7.1
There are a lot of changes here so some things may break, others may be fixed....

Well, XDA sent me a One S, so I do have to do something for it, but I'm definitely still working on u8800. I think I figured out exactly why the volume keys were failing so expect that to be fixed soon and I'll update to the new CAF release.

I probably won't be able to make as frequent updates as I have in the past and I'm away all next week but I haven't given up.

I've got my u8800 back and have spent the last few days working on an update for Aurora. I'll post it soon.

I got back from my holiday at the weekend. I stayed an extra week but that means I have a lot of work to catch up on now. I just had a look at the 7630 jb release from CAF and the release notes say:

 The following features are not functional in this release.
     Bluetooth®
     Camcorder/Camera
     HDMI
     Telephony
     WLAN
     Audio
     Video

(these release notes are not publicly available I'm afraid)
So basically nothing works!! I don't know if it's even worth compiling it.
