I think they had to hide the name "android" so other os such as windows and apple brandswohld not be negative to product. Chrome is cross platform and more Accepted.

. Thanks for the portal work!Am I the only one that is now disappointed with my 35.00 investment. It does less or at least no more when we first purchased it. Roku which has been out a lot longer adds new stuff on a regular basis. Even Apple TV has more then when Chromecast first came out. I like Chromecast but I use it less now then when I first got it. true Netflix is a big bonus on Chromecast. Can't get that on Roku. But I can get a lot of other stuff.

I will have troubles returning. I live in Canada. Not even released here. But Google is like that. I really like Android and Google products but Apple sells more stuff here then Google. Not sure why but they do.

I'm disappointed in Google holding up dev on this toy, for reasons that seem to dampen enthusiasm for both users and devs. For a few dollars more, an Android stick already does just about everything everyone hopes the CC will do, ALREADY has huge dev support, tons of apps,etc. It seems a waste to try to reinvent the wheel for the sake of a new protocol. Dial may be simpler than UPnP, but it does it REALLY need a whole new device and ecosystem...how is that an improvement?
Sad to say but I haven't even used this damn thing in about a month. It doesn't really do anything. I'll probably get rid of it soon.

Yeah chromecast needs plex support asap. I use this on my secondary TV so its not a huge deal, but Google needs to open this up to devs.

Problem is, whatever is born from the eventual sdk release will fall short of what already exists on Android. Plex for Android is already sweet, especially if you're a Plex Pass member.

11 Dec 2016: After almost 3.5 years, the development and modifications for this device is barely existent anymore. I decided to do one more update maybe in January and let this thread retire.

after more than 3.5 years of maintaining this thread, I'll close it for the time being. It might get a refresh someday just like the LG G3 device index thread, we'll see. All of us were part of the beginning of the affordable streaming devices and it was fun. My Google Chromecast is still doing its job very well
Thanks to all members who contributed and developed in the Chromecast world. I for one learned new things and came in touch with really nice people within this device subforum. Hope to see you elsewhere on XDA, you alternatively can drop me a PM :laugh:
