No, sorry. Chromecast only connects via WiFi right now. Rooted Chromecast might someday be able to use some kind of HDMI Ethernet or something else, but given the general lack of adoption there, I'm guessing probably not.Hello. Is it possible to stream media from a phone/tablet to the Chromecast without connecting to wifi router, etc.? I'm thinking when in hotel, etc. for sending a video on my phone to watch. Or, perhaps even hardwired from the Chromecast to the phone/tablet?
I did read that I wouldn't be able to do netflix, etc....

You'd need one phone/tablet to be a hotspot and provide Internet and WiFi, and another phone/tablet/computer to be a WiFi client to set up Chromecast.
Chromecast is capable of 1080p playback, sure. But it'll largely depend how the video is accessed. Can Chromecast support video streaming from a website? If so, would it do 1080p? Fox is streaming the Super Bowl on the web, curious if I could use a Chromecast to get the game rather than setting up cable TV.
Thanks for the info, bhiga.Chromecast is capable of 1080p playback, sure. But it'll largely depend how the video is accessed.
Unless Fox releases a Chromecast app (and allows streaming of that particular content), then your other option would be tab-casting from desktop Chrome browser. However that requires stable bandwidth and some amount of CPU horsepower. Also, tab casting currently only works at 720p max due to the CPU and network bandwidth considerations.
Unlike phones and tablets, root is a one-shot deal. Either you can root and you do it, or you give up root forever (or at least until another root method is found, if that happens). There is no "root later" because once it updates the door to root is closed.I kinda want to root mine what can I all do right now with chrome cast other then pwncast and not. Was tinking about maybe getting another one chrome cast and not rooting it. Is it possible that will have more development for it in the feature wise or should I just set mine up for now thought I just read about Google apks for it
You've mentioned this twice so far. Unless I missed it which is possible, where's the stock ROM?Worst case scenario, you can permanently unroot later by flashing a stock ROM.
You didn't miss it. There isn't one posted (would probably cause more confusion than there already is), but I'm sure if it was needed Team Eureka or another dev with a build environment could build it.You've mentioned this twice so far. Unless I missed it which is possible, where's the stock ROM?
No screen mirroring (not sure where people are getting that idea), local files are available without root (Avia, Plex, RealPlayer Cloud).Root or not to root? I have a rootable one but don't have access to a computer at the moment thought. And I know there is some apps that I can use local files with and screen mirroring with but was there a way to root from a android terminal just curious or a imager app? Kinda wanna use this kinda been putting it off lol

Root gets you control over DNS, DHCP and whitelist. The list is most important as that gives you access to apps that Google has not yet "blessed" like Vbukit.
FlashCast is the only way to get root at the moment. There is no terminal or ADB access without root so obviously can't root from there.
It's not like a phone. The only "door" is the bootloader so once that is updated by an OTA (that you CAN'T refuse) no more root.
Pretty much once you use it, you won't be able to root out, so I would wait.

You want the power of root: wait or get another one to use.
You don't care about root and okay with possibly not getting root in the future: set it up.

The risk is that you "brick" your Chromecast by cutting off power (turning off the TV) while an update is being applied.my tv has a usb port and it seems to power the chromecast well (works!).
however, when the tv is switched off, the usb port will be off, i.e., no power to chromecast.
so, every time the tv is switched on/off, the chromecast will suffer a cold on/off.
do you foresee any problems in doing this repeatedly (say, 5 times a day)? or should I just power the chromecast via a separate power source?
I actually did that on my rooted CC. I forget exactly what was missing but something was and it did boot up. I just did it manually again which worked and turned OFF the OTA updates from the panel. The risk is that you "brick" your Chromecast by cutting off power (turning off the TV) while an update is being applied.
The risk is low, but as with any firmware update, it is still there.
Personally I like having Chromecast on a constant power source. It doesn't use much power at all, and having it powered while the TV is off allows it to turn the TV on (if it's off) when you make a cast request. I actually use this feature a lot.
Let us know how it goes - I'm definitely curious as to whether your AVR can pull the audio without relying on the TV to send it back down. I can't really think of a technical reason it shouldn't be able to. The audio return is really meant for when the TV is doing on-board decoding, like when using an on-board QAM tuner.
