I can launch the Heimdall Frontend, but sure what file(s) to use, or if it can "see" my Captivate.
Any pointers?
All right, I've read the entire thread... and I'm going to apologize in advance if I'm asking a question that's already been asked, but I didn't quite find anything that's like my phone's issue.
Got a new Cappy, build 1107, loaded Cognition on it... then had to go back to stock. Made the mistake of using AIO and Odin One-Click, which successfully sent the phone back to stock eclair 2.1 i897uckjf6... which 1107 hates passionately, apparently.
Now the phone will only boot to the ATT screen, stay on there for several seconds, then flash off, then start the same process. When I try to three-button back to download, I get the same behavior, only it shows me the battery charging screen. I can't get either to stop unless I pull the battery.
I may be hoping against hope, and I do have a jig on order, but might this help me get back to Download, so I can load JH2 or JH3?

Although this tool might not help you, if you're on stock Eclair, the way to get to download mode is to have the phone off, hold V+ and V-, and then insert the USB cable.
You may already be doing that, but I just want to make sure since you said 3-button combination.
Yes, about twenty times since the phone saw fit to tank early yesterday afternoon. When I try that, all I get is the battery. I've had this happen before on other phones, but I've never had it happen that it didn't eventually let me back into download mode. Very frustrating.
This is the very first mistake I made after getting an 1106. The only solution I found was to use a jig to get to download mode. After that, just flash to something KB1 or newer and you'll be fine.
Well, good to hear it will (probably?) unbrick with a jig-- brand new phone and all of that. Someone in the AIO forum was kind enough to direct me to the proper PDA and PIT files for this phone, and I'm on my way to the ol' Radio Shack now... so hopefully, I'll be back on track by evening's end.
So... the file in OP will work on the vibrant? Is there anywhere for me to put the .tar/are they stored in it?

This releases bootlocks that prevent the device from booting. Yes it works on the vibrant. The vibrant is a slightly improved captivate.
hi, thanks for the instruction. it says the unbricking is successful, but i am still stuck in boot loop. it happened after i install TW4 through CWM recovery. all i need to do now is get back in recovery mode to flash my firmware. but i cant seem to get into recovery mode. any idea how to get into recovery mode?

Can you Getty in download mode? I would user that if possible to flash a new ROM.

You don't have recovery when you're in that mode. Also, sometimes Odin won't flash in that mode. This app has helped out quite a few people.
One-Click UnBrick releases bootlocks and allows the device to boot, be put into recovery, or download mode properly.

Just grab 3 100kohm resistors from radio shack. Tie them together and fish around in the USB port until you touch pins 4 and 5. You will be in download mode.

This software is completely safe. It is a part of my Heimdall One-Click project. I wanted to release this to work out any cross-platform difficulties which may be encountered before I release Heimdall One-Click.
Instructions
1. Copy OneClick.jar to your Desktop-- or any other folder on your computer, It won't work on a network share.
2. Double click. -- As long as you have Java installed On Linux and Mac you are up and running.
For some versions of Windows as a work around to UAC (User Access Control, the annoying popups), a executable called "OneClickLoader.exe" has been deployed to the same folder as OneClick.jar. It is important that you do not rename OneClick.jar until after runnning OneClickLoader.exe
3. right click OneClickLoader.exe and select "Run as Administrator" -- Setup should be run-of-the-mill.

I am very interested in feedback. If you would like to test this, just put your phone into download mode and click the unsoft brick button. It will simply reboot your phone. It will not flash any firmware and it does not have the capability to do anything except release the locks which prevent a phone from booting if they are present.

Testing on your platform is as simple as putting your phone into download mode and clicking the button. It will simply reboot the phone if the phone is not bricked.

Heimdall one-click is operational. I'm working the kinks out of it with the one-click unbrick first. I've sucessfully flashed my phone on all three platforms using heimdall one-click. I don't feel comfortable releasing something like that without thorough testing. This is basically testing for my one-click platform.3wow this looks neat...i will definitely fire it up next time i brick my epic! great job AdamOutler!
edit: tested and it did kick my epic out of download mode in windows
if the command above gives you issues on windows 7 then do the following:
click the start button
goto programs>accessories>
right click on 'command prompt' and select run as administrator
cd to your download folder (ie: cd c:\downloads\oneclick\)
then type 'java -jar OneClick.jar'
you should only have to do all of that the first time so drivers for heimdall can be installed correctly
