Like the open concept of this app!
But I must say I'm not that much of a fan of the gui ... any chance that there will be a version that just relies on the standard windows mobile gui elements? (using default taskbar with 2 buttons, one of them menu, etc.)

Sorry, zero chances for that. :)
The GUI is still in development. There will be some changes in the future based on user feedback to make it even more finger-friendly. I already have a list of issues...
But I definitely won't go back to the default Windows Mobile style for it's horrible enough.
The biggest problem is that with WM5 you need a stylus to pick a menu item on some phones, because it's to small for a finger. Instead on WM6.5.3 the items are all big enough.
With OMM I'm working on a GUI that looks the same on all kind of WM phones and focuses on finger-friendlyness.

Bug report for the last nightly build:
GSM positioning does not function.
I tap on it, it became green, I tap on close, then I re-open the settings, and the square is red.
The info on the screen tells me "GSM Locationing: Inactive"

This is probably because you have "Allow Downloads" turned off, right?
GSM Locationing does not work without an internet connection, this is why it's turned off if you don't allow downloads.

Yeah!

If I set "Allow Downloads" on, the "GSM Locationing" is working ok (if I set it to "on").

Your reasoning is good, but a little complicated and hidden to understand (sorry for my english)

So there's no bug in this function, only a misunderstood

Hi,

if I choose to use the storage card after installing the program then it crashes.
Of course a storage card is inserted, it is new. I also copied a random file to it to ckeck whether the phone can write to the card and it is ok.
I would not like to put the maps inside the phone memory :-(

Do you have any idea what is going wrong?
Do I need to create a directory on the card first?

Br,

Normally, you don't need to create a directory first. I don't know what's wrong with your installation. I will check it with a fresh card to see if I can reproduce this behavior.

-----------------

However, there is a new nightly build out with a GUI to select other map sources.
Adding/Editing/Removing sources does not work through the GUI, yet.
But you can edit the maps.xml within osmcache if you want to configure your own maps.

For Implementing Multitouch you do not need an HD2 ;) Just use my Multitouch dll, and give it to somebody who owns one. Compass isn't that problem. You may find Application that already support it (MetalDetector or something similar).

Thanks! I already have your page bookmarked. But I don't know anybody of my friends who owns an HD2 so I cannot implement it and test it. :/

I see there no problem, I will help you debugging through .net reflector.

I hope we can talk some more than just about the hd2 things :). Talking to another developer about developing things is always nice.

Watch OpenMobileMaps running on HTC HD2
and on my good old HTC Wizard !
    --- NEWSFLASH ---

A development blog for OpenMobileMaps is located here: HERE!

I wrote an application similar to GoogleMaps but it's relying on OpenStreetMap.org.
It's finger friendly and showing the map on fullscreen.

GPS support and GSM triangulation (if no GPS device is present) is built in.

The downloaded map tiles are stored on your phone/storage and only new ones are downloaded.

It's tested and working with all possible resolutions, with internal GPS and external GPS. And it should work on all Windows Mobile devices with .NET CF 3.5 installed.

Tell me what you think of it and please find some bugs!

If you like OpenMobileMaps and appreciate the hard work and time I spent on developing it then don't hesitate to DONATE!
Any amount of money keeps me motivated to further develop OpenMobileMaps!

    I know, it's been a long wait.
I finally found some time to finalize version 1.5 of OpenMobileMaps!

To all HD2 and HD mini owners: have fun with multitouch pinch-to-zoom!

To all others: bookmarks and lots of improvements await you!
    2
    Long time no see.

DynDNS is shutting down free domain services and omm.mine.nu got a victim of it. This is why I had to release a hotfix version of OpenMobileMaps with a new webservice URL.

I also included the extended maps.xml in this version. But it will be only generated on a fresh install (if no maps.xml exists).

Have fun and thank you for all this support over the last years! This is a great community!

    Thanks for the reply
I tried it and it works great
I wonder if it exists in Spanish?
how it works with GSM or GPRS, I have no GPS

currently, there is no spanish translation. but, if you want to, you could make one. this way you don't need to donate anything to get a registered version.

Very interesting. Are the screenshots updated? :)

Now, the screenshots in the first post are updated and here are some more which didn't fit into the first post... ;)
