Apktool doesn't play well with email.apk.. ya gotta delete an id and something else.. then ya gotta delete the "" that gets added... I build my apks from source now so I don't have build issues like that... I thought there was a transparent email widget floating around somewhere tho...

Thanks for your quick reply.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to start learning how to build from source.
Could you give a lead here on what it exactly means by "build from source"?

Thanks.

Source code is how devs build roms. Ya need Linux installed or a MAC and there are tons of guides on how to build.. source has Java code or classes.. when we decompile apks it translates that code into smali files and has a readable language for it all... its tricky at first but gets easier.. and repo syncing a source from github takes a few hours and then building it takes a while too so be prepared... lol

I'm on the epic touch will the zips be ok to flash or should i repack a zip? Nexus ones work

Are you the one looking for a transparent gtalk?.. and zips should be good if one of them worked already... just have a backup handy or stock apks copied over somewhere so you can just push them to system if the zips mess up...

Yeah. Reluctant to toy because the ROM I'm on is super finicky about talk. Just getting inverted going was crazy

Aright that's cool.. I don't have 404 transparent yet but I can do it and since Google won't release source on GApps it makes it tougher to get them to install with ease...

Hey b-boy! I love ur devious ROM brother. It was awesome! Had to move to jb tho. When u think u gna do one of those? And do u think u could possibly make a guide on how to specifically do whatever it is that your doing to these? I'm trying to learn about all this stuff, and I'm looking for whatever guides I can find. Specifically, how to customize everything in a ROM, from placement of things like the clock and status bar, and how to add the option to HAVE/NOT HAVE the options into the settings menu. I'm getting closer and closer, like yesterday I flashed an update to my current ROM (sbrissen 4.1.1 aosp alpha 5) and the update had widgets in the notification try, where alpha 2 did not. So I was able to poke around in the xml's and find out where the differences were, but working backwards like that is mighty slow and exhausting. Any way u wanna do a write up on how to perform these works of technological wisardries? I (and from all the questions I've seen, many others) would really appreciate anything that u might wanna throw out there. Even if its just links to some of the placed that u learned this stuff.

Thanks if u wanna help yo!!:thumbup:
:D

EDIT: I was thinkin, u prolly do all these mods at the source code level, ay? If that's the case, I can understand if ur not up to making a guide. I've tried my hand at building a ROM from source, and was having too many problems when repo sync, so I gave it up until I know a little more java, and have a better understanding of the ins and outs of android.
Most of all, I wanna know how u did all those customizations, and how u were able to turn those customizations into actual options in the settings menu. Its one thing to build the customization into ur ROM, its another thing to give the end user the option to use that customization or not. That where I'm getting stuck. How to translate that customization into an option in the system setting menu. Thanks again yo!

Bacon in my coffee, please? You don't have bacon?! Unacceptable!!

I appreciate that man. Yeah I build from source only and java is not an easy language to learn/understand/teach.. lol. The way I have learned is exactly how you are tho.... by comparing old/new code... XML edits are easy tho as far as moving things around.. as long as java/classes aren't needed...

Also, I haven't posted it here but on Rootz I have BAKED rom for the fassy with my team I'm part of... teamBAKED... its aosp with cherry picks galore... check it out and see what cha think... B3 should be out soon and has GPS fixed and mms too...

Just wondering, do these Holo themed apks for gmail, etc.. work on Gingerbread or are they just for ICS? If not, are there Holo themed gmail and system apps for Gingerbread? Thanks.

Any chance I could get a link for the green google market app? It's the only one I really wanted but the link's dead, unfortunately! :) Btw, have you seen what google have done with the Google Play app lately? Yuck.

Here are 8 of the ICS apps I've inverted and made transparent for TeamHacksungs port. These are all separate installs cause I install my Gmails to data and not everyone wants every app but it's still easy enough if ya want them all...These are all 4.0.3 versions and work on the last few builds of TH's ports...

Install guide for Email, Contacts, Calendar, Mms:

These are all system apps and for one reason or another they either need to built from source so in doing that these are just as easy to install as they are to flash. Just simply download the one(s) you want, move them all to system/app (replacing the existing apk) set permissions on each and REBOOT... Shouldn't have any issues installing now.. *Mms is included in the apk install but also as a flash zip..

Install guide for Gmail and YouTube:

If your Gmail is in the system partition use root explorer or titanium backup to uninstall/delete the app and then REBOOT... Then you can install mine like a normal app... Enjoy!

    Install guide for the rest:

Download the zip(s) you like, move them to a known directory or the root of the sd card, boot into recovery, install zip from sd, choose zip, locate the zip(s) and select one, choose yes, repeat for the rest of the zips... then reboot system after all the zips download...

For anyone wanting to remove the dividers in Mms, here's how I did it: I used the heirarchyViewer.bat from the sdk and found that the surrounding box that encases those dividers is id/message_block so I did a search for that id in layouts and 2 xml's had hits. (message_list_item_send and recv).. I added paddings, layout widths, new dips, added backgrounds, and it just wouldn't change.. Checked out smali but nothing.. I messed with the positioning and ended up with left_middle and right_middle as the source.. Not sure if this is as difficult as I found it to be but in case anyone wants to change that, there ya go..

    Install guide for Talk:

For this one you have to flash 2 zips.. the first one is just the res, resources and classes.. The 2nd has the edited Manifest.xml in it.. So download the first zip, flash it in recovery.. verify that Talk.apk is working.. Then download the 2nd link for either Full Holo or Full Transparent and flash it.. That will finish the theme of it...

    MARKET

For this one, uninstall updates first if you have the 3.4.6 version. Then go to data/app and make sure you don't have com.android.vending.apk in there anymore.. Then flash the market of your choice. If you lose the market for sure (it's named Black Market or Clear Market) use the stock apk I linked. It will install like a normal app, then move it to system and reboot.. then try reflashing my zip..

You can change the name from Vending apk to Phonesky.apk and it should work fine... its only the app name, not the package... or rename phonesky.apk to Vending.apk, reboot, and flash mine... same thing...

Also, I built my first rom last night. So inverted contacts, calendar , keyboard coming soon... won't release the rom unless roman approves and until its 100%... but its running smooth so far...

Right now slim.. contacts, calendar, keyboard and email are being biyatches to invert so I'm waiting on 2 things.. 1: a fully working ics rom that isn't gonna get updated 2 days later.. 2: to figure out how to compile a rom from source so I can just invert them all and build it from aokp source and make it a full rom.. also I can pull apks from that for individual installs...

Building a "throm" always seems to piss of devs. I always thought it just made things simpler for the end user. I support you, even if other devs throw fits
