Now that we have root, can we edit the build.prop to remove the 'At&t' in the left corner of the notification bar?

Also, changing the 4G/4G LTE icons to the international HSPA/LTE icons?

Twrp probably won't install even if I build it due to the boot loader being locked.

Yes I took the plunge and am rooted. Confirmed was able to edit Build.prop to change LCD Density, and also hid Soft Keys.

What you need to do:

I take no credit for the method used here and I'm not responsible to bricks or something going wrong. With that in mind this is what you do.

1. Download and Install the LG United Mobile Drivers: Can be found here: http://d-h.st/EW4
2. Next make sure your ADB is working, on the G2 goto Settings: About Phone: Software Information: Click Build Number 5 times. Go back and choose Development Settings Enable USB Debugging.
3 command prompt and type adb devices, you should see your Serial Number and online.
4 Now that we know ADB is working, download this: http://www.mgyun.com/vroot
5. Yes it is in chinese, install it, then run it while your phone is plugged into your USB port on your PC.
6, The program will do some checks once its finished it will pop a screen that has the model number of the phone LG-D800 and a check mark. Notice the button on the bottom right, it says ROOT with some chinese lettering.
7. Click it and wait, the phone will reboot after a couple minutes. Once it reboots you will be rooted. Also it will install a Chinese language Root Manager. This is temporary.
8. Now we will replace the Chinese binary with an English one. Download superuser by clockworkmod from the play store. Open it and grant root permission (right button when the window pops up in Chinese). Superuser will ask to update the binary, hit install. Now exit by swiping superuser out of recents.
9. Now open titanium backup, install from play store if you don't have it. Find the Chinese root manager app and either uninstall it or freeze it.
10. Next open superuser again and once again install the superuser binary when asked. Reboot. You should now be rooted in English.
11. Optionally you can install Busybox with Busybox installer like I did.

Mods can move, sticky, or delete this if they feel it necessary.

Confirmed! Thanks!!!!

    Hey guys,

So, I've taken a look at this application, and while it appears to do what it says on the tin, I can't be 100% sure that it doesn't provide some 'value added' services as well. There's code in the app to do automatic updates, collect personal information ( http://pastebin.com/pxtDsGbC ), potentially listen to things like your SMS messages ( http://pastebin.com/yruveH33 ), and even change your wallpaper.

It also injects .so files into system_server and servicemanager, both of which appear at quick glance to possibly persist across reboots.

This is compounded by the fact that this application will have full root permissions after executed. In short, I don't trust it.

I have confirmed that jcase's root for the Moto X ( http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=45598679 ) can be adapted to this device quite easily. (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THE UNMODIFIED MOTO X ROOT ON YOUR G2)

When jcase returns back to IRC I'll detail my observations to him so he can post a new root.

Also, as usual, Team Codefire continues to support this new LG device, and we look forward to having an announcement for an unlock or bypass in the next few weeks.

    Thanks y'all for your patience!

EDIT: I've just confirmed there's a no-brainer root in the ATT shipping ROM, which I take no credit for finding. I'm going to run it by jcase tomorrow to ensure that I'm not spoiling anything if I post it.
If you're planning on rooting your phone, just wait until tomorrow (Tuesday afternoon at least!)

EDIT2: There also appears to be a LOT of root checking going on in this phone, the stock recovery binary blows some qfuses if you've rooted your phone, and there's no known way to reset those.
    Basically, don't root yet. Please!

EDIT3: My previous statement about qfuses in recovery is incorrect.. it is *READING* them

    Rooted. Thanks OP and community.

Those having trouble getting the VZW variant to recognize via ADB:

    1. Turn on USB Debugging in developer settings.
    2. Under System settings there is a PC settings option. In the PC settings, click USB settings, then Internet connection, then Ethernet.
    3. Go to device manager in Windows. Update the driver for the LG device with the download from OP.
    4. Reboot phone or Windows if prompted.

If you have a mac, there are no drivers for this phone on OSX. You need to run a windows virtual machine and connect the phone to that VM.

Also, can we please compile a list of apps which can be frozen or uninstalled safely on the Verizon version?

    Howdy all!

    http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=45692679#post45692679

I've got a root for ATT and VZW, TMO coming soon as I can get someone to join #lg-g2 in freenode that has a TMO G2 and has current root (yeah, I know, chicken and egg problem)

    Thanks!
