I dont know if he is still around or not, I thought I saw him pop up in the evo 4g forums from time to time...but then didnt he have like 2 or 3 names?
I would definitely find it useful...I am thinking about using one of their prebuilt images...according to the directions on androlinux.com, this command : --seed linux-image-omap, means we are using the OMAP3 version of ubuntu. They have prebuilt images that just need to be extracted and written to an image. I am going to test that out and see if it is bootable. Then I was thinking of increasing the size per uncorrupteds instructions and adding things.
On a side note, while ubuntu is nice to run, do we need everything that comes preinstalled? Cant we take stuff out that we would not benefit from like the browser, or cd burning, or other things? The only reason I mention the browser is because it seems like a lot of work when we have opera/stock browser on the phone that takes a whole lot less time to run than the image...how would we get a package list of stuff to remove? Maybe we can make the image a whole lot smaller, and add stuff like the kitchen, svn tools, compiling tools. I believe EarlyMon was talking about connecting to the vnc from his mac (???), so maybe the browser is not something that should be removed if we can vnc into the image from other computers, but there is definitely some stuff as I dont see the cd burning working or does it load the drivers of the machine you are on? There is a lot I dont understand about linux yet, so if I am wrong, then disregard my statements.
Another side note, I would love to get a version of windows (newer than 98) running in much the same fashion if that would be possible, maybe an embedded version.
PS would it be possible to pxe boot from the ubuntu vnc to boot other computers in the network to this version of ubuntu - THAT would be awesome...I have a few satellite computers that I would love to just pxe boot from, but dont want to lock a machine to be the server. Just a thought
Another thought - DAMMIT, this post is so not gonna flow. In the original image, it looks like we are not using the fsrw, mountonly, unionfs files. I have checked both scripts and they are not called other than to be copied in ubuntu.sh...is there a reason we have these?
