Glad to see it worked for your Desire C610 because it does not work for mine.

I type "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin" and confirm with volume up + power button that I want to unlock.

E:\fastboot>fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.108s]
writing 'unlocktoken'...
(bootloader) unlock token check successfully
OKAY [ 0.004s]
finished. total time: 0.113s

The phone restarts, does a hard reset but when I go to bootloader to check, it still says "Locked".

Weird because I do not get any error message. The entire process (10 steps) goes straight forward.

It just won't unlock no matter how many times I try.

Does anyone else have the same issue with this device or any other device?

it worked first time with me, I have a HTC desire 610 brought in the UK, are you sure you did the commands right? it should say something else after (bootloader)unlocked successfully... im not sure what though..:(

Yes I'm sure I did all the commands right.
After "bootloader unlock token check successfully" it will display a final warning asking you to confirm that you really want to unlock bootloader (and you have to use volume up + power button to do this).

I'm on :

A3_UL PVT SHIP S-ON

OS-1.18.401.4

hmm, im not sure what went on then... it all worked fine for me, and im pretty sure im on the exact same as you, i will check in the morning, cba right now:p

Same HBoot. Damn :(
Different Radio ROM and different OpenDSP. Cannot be the reason.
Different OS. Hmmm. Interresting. Mine is up to date but we do not live in the same country.
Just wondering if my version does not have a problem with the unloch mechanism.

Hi

I have been able to root my Desire 816 using this guide. The root checker app confirms this and I am able to see the contents of the root directory.

However whenever an app is granted root access using SuperSU, the phone restarts before completion of the task. Has anyone else faced this problem or found solution for this??

Have you used the wp_mod.ko by flar2?

1. I followed the HTCDev Unlock guide from here http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader
2. Rooted using the OP instructions
3. Used the wp-mod.ko from here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2707378
4. Followed instructions from here to fastboot, install TWRP and move and execute wp-mod.ko using terminal emulator.

Let me know the step at which you face trouble and I'll try to help you. (Disclaimer -am not an expert by any yardstick :D)

    I decided to create a clean tutorial for those who want to root their HTC Desire 816! I will be editing it as new improvements appear.

    Disclaimer - This will void your warranty and unlocking bootloader will also erase all your data in internal storage! ;)

    1. Install HTC Sync Manager

    (Required because it packs in the drivers essential for PC to recognize the device)

    http://www.htc.com/in/software/htc-sync-manager/

    2. Unlock your phone's bootloader

    Follow the steps listed here : http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader
    You need to select device model as "HTC One"(Don't worry, it all follows almost same steps)

    3. Download and Install a custom recovery!

    > Download your recovery exe file(I recommend it so that it doesn't causes any troubles for newbies) from here.
    > Boot you phone into fastboot and run the exe file, it will install the recovery(CWM 6.0.4.7 as of the date of writing).
    > Boot into recovery by selecting HBOOT(Select using Power button and scroll via volume keys)

    4. Download and flash SuperSU!

    > Download the latest SuperSU zip file from here!
    > Place it in the root of your sd card(Internal or External, your choice)
    > Boot into recovery and select "Install Zip from SD Card".
    > Select where you kept the flashable zip(Internal/External storage)
    > Select the file when it shows all your files and then select "Yes" to let it flash.
    > After flashing completes, reboot!
    > Use the wp_mod.ko module from here!
    > ?
    > Profit! You finally have a rooted HTC Desire 816! Yay! :D
