I really appreciate the guide, slumpolo. My thanks.

I'm tentative about the process on my i5801 as I'm unsure which of the quoted outcomes will apply to my phone. Is there any information about why some i5801's loose their IMEI and have their MAC addresses changed on reboot?

After flashing the /efs is corrupted and I don't know how can I restore it.
I already have efs files from other phone, and I edited these files (i changed the other imei to mine) but when I copy with Root explorer after reboot I see the "original" corrupted files.

So I finally succeed in the 'rooting' of my i5800. It works.
Thanks again for the tutorial.

Then I've updated the gps.conf in order to get some GPS localisation ;)
It didn't change :(, still no GPS information (I reboot the i5800 before trying in order to take in account changes).

But I still have the same behaviour.
If I start gpssetup2 and close it immediately then the GPS works perfectly, retreiving up to 9 satellites in a few seconds, and provide localisation on Google Maps immediately :eek:

This test application must change something into the device or in GPS peripheral configuration, but WHAT ????
If we know it we can implement a little application to correctly start the GPS.

I retreive gpssetup2.apk and gpssetup2.odex from a samsung firmware, but unfortunately I don't know yet enough about Java and tools provided by google SDK to be able to dissassemble the bytecode and reverse the API and parameters used to setup the GPS.

Is someone know some guru that can help the i5800 communauty :p:p:p ?

Thank you octy for the workaround. What exactly you mean by start and closing gpssetup2?. I do not see any exit option in the gpssetup2. Can you please explain with some details.

hi again..when i click home button second tiime after see android logo its saying istallation aborted ....error in update.zip in sd card...i renamed n copied to sd card but still aving problem :( anyway tanx for help me have a gud day

I will try to help you by chat but latter (diner timer for the familly :D )

But you can try another thing before :

Normally you don't need to copy the update.zip by yourself because the rootme script do it for you through adb commands.
It's just an hypothesis but if you copy it from windows, may be access rights on the files are not correcty set and the device cannot open it.

So remove all the files you have copied on your SD card and restart rootme.bat.

Send update.zip via adb command don't work for me under osx and I must copy file manually. Adb push works under windows? Let me know so I can update the first post :)

About GPS fix (your "old" post) try to use the FasterFix it works for me and change correctly gps.conf. Now I've the fix in under 30 secs. Tomorrow I'll try also your gpssetup2 trick :)

For people with IMEI problems try to push modified file via adb :)

Just wondering Can't we go back another I5801 firmware like I5801DDJG6 or I5801DDJG5. I am also planning to go for I5800 firmware , If I get in to the same problem can I load the I5801DDJG6 or I5801DDJG5 firmware.

    I hope that some admin will open an official section for this Android mobile phone, in the meantime I want to share some informations.

    Info for 5801 users at the bottom: read it carefully before do anything :)

    LATEST FIRMWARE:

    Seems that this firmware doesn't require lagfix and gps fix :)

    Instructions for upgrading: see below :)

    [size=+2]HOW TO ROOT/UNROOT (alternative method):[/size]

    Method 1: Simply use z4root. z4root it's an app you install from the market or by side loading, that has a single button that will root your device.

    Actually it's possibile to root I5800 using "One Click Root/UnRoot I9000 (Eclair and Froyo) Mac and PC" that you can find here. I used the OSX version.

    WINDOWS VERSION
    1. Make sure your phone is on USB Debug mode: (MENU > Settings > Applications > Developement > USB debugging = Checked )
    2. For Windows x86 and x64 systems make sure that the Samsung Drivers are installed. You can get them here.
    3. Extract the contents of GalaxyS_I9000_One-Click_Root.rar to a folder.
    4. Connect your phone to your PC via the USB cable and launch the file "Galaxy S I9000 One-Click Root" file.
    5. Based on the version of the Operating System you are running, click the "One-Click Root 2.1" button for Eclair or "One-Click Root 2.2" for Froyo Warning: Not Both!!. This will launch a command prompt follow the instructions in the CMD window.

    Superuser app issue: Found out the issue with Superuser App crash. If you install new superuser 2.3.1 the app will crash if you click on the Info Tab. The first Time you One-Click Root you will need to run something as superuser which will add an item the superuser will track then the Info Tab will not Force Close and will display details of the tracked app requesting root access. New Superuser bug but easily ignored.

    I5800 has many trouble with gps fix. To solve this just change NTP server in gps.conf located in system/etc. The simple way to do this is using FasterFix that you can download here: http://www.bernardbekker.nl/Files/FasterFixv92.apk
    Attention Root is required!
    Change NTP depending on your location. For a full list of NTP server visit http://www.ntp.org/.

    You can create also a gps.conf file like this:

    Asia: I5801DDJG6
    America: I5800LVIJG8

    All roms use OPS 531 and they can be flashed using ODIN for 5800.

    Flashing with ODIN it's very simple (sorry for picture):

    3) In one package select the firmware that you want to flash.
    4) Start :)

    In about two minutes your mobile will be upgrade.

    The following settings worked for me-
    (do keep note of default values, in case you wish to revert back to your original settings)

    From your phone dialer type *#*#1472365#*#* on eclair or *#*#3214789650#*#*
    on froyo This will bring up the secret GPSSetup2 application.
    Settings\Parameter Settings\Address\Server Type: 1x MPC
    Settings\Parameter Settings\Position mode: option3
    Settings\Fix Request Settings\Session Operation: Standalone
    Settings\Fix Request Settings\Server Option: Local
    gpsOne XTRA\Xtra Enable: Enable

    Next, save the settings by exiting and then turn off and on your phone.

    I was able to get a fix with about 10 satellites within 20 seconds after this change!

    I guess people do not use Applanet??

    You can download paid apps for free, which looks just like the market app.

    There you can download all the apps you can find on market, for free.

    I use Titanium backup paid version, launcher pro plus etc..

    just for your information~ ;)

    Download .apk, and install! (find it on google for yourself)
