Adaway is really useful. I wonder why google is against ad-blockers and removed all ad-blocking apps from playstore.
I was looking for this app today and didn't know it had been removed. Thank you!
I knew a thread like this was going to happen
I have the last latest version from the play store and I did think that it wouldn't get updated any more
Laughing at you while eating jellybeans
Based on the News that google has removed Ad blocking apps from the play store I figured I'd throw this up so people still can get this great application.
I don't know about the other Ad blocking apps but AdAway has been my favorite for a long time due to its functionality and being open source.
Please go to the Developer's Site where you can donate, get the source, and find other ways of installing. It is available from F-Droid but I didn't want to install that just for this. The last version in the Google play store was v2.2. I've compiled from source so this is version 2.3 (latest in source). You can look at the source or the app itself for the changelog.
File any bugs here. This is not a bug thread for the app.

This may sound like a stupid question. But how do I install it? I just downloaded Adaway-release.apk from the OP directly to my downloads folder on my rooted Note 2. When I clicked on the file, I see "Cancel" and "Install". If I click on the "Install" button, nothing happens.
I already enabled the "Unknown sources" option on Jellybean 4.1.1 stock rooted ROM. My phone passed all the RootValidator tests:
After you clicked install, and you say it did nothing, did you get the "installed" message after? It should just install like any other app. You should see it in your app drawer as a stop sign with a dove on it instead of the letters S T O P.
What needs to be updated it just works (at least root based idk about vpn)Hi guys, Adaway project is dead? No more updates for a long time
AdAway is just an application to manage your host file. You even can uninstall AdAway as long as your host file stays in place (this is true for the rooted version). That's why it's important to make clear which version you're using.@PerfectSlayer @Vankog
@jawz101 Can you update the app already the apps started showing ads and AdAway often is not working, and the GitHub page is full of bug reports
Ads breaking through are NOT caused by the app being updated. It's caused by the host sources not being updated or the actual hosts moving faster than the host file. ie even if they updated the app, ads would still break through if the hosts sources are not updated / covering.@PerfectSlayer @Vankog

It works perfectly.Good afternoon:
I wanted to ask a question if I may.
I am currently using Lineageos 20 with Adaway in root.
Do you know if Adaway works on Lineageos 21 and the latest version of Magisk?
Best regards and thanks for your help and time.
Followed the guide. It's simple enough until I try to find the hostname I am supposed to white list - there are probably 50 entries just clicking on one article. Plus the names don't give any clue what they are related to. I tried white-listing about a dozen different entries but none allowed the comments to be read. At this point it's still easier to turn off Adaway and scroll the articles then turn it back on when I'm done.Do it by logDNS. Check the Wiki:
Start the log and open your preferred site.
Whitelist what has to be whitelisted.
GitLab, like GitHub do not set LastModified HTTP header so update status is not supported... yet!Is anyone using a hosts list hosted on Gitlab? It keeps showing "Unknown update status".
It works well here. I failed to reproduce as I change the HTTP client library and how I use it.Hmm, not working for me for this URL, v4.1.0 shows something like not updated in -360 days (some large negative value). Can you please see if you can reproduce?

Not really. You could choose a lot of different mode. All the F-Droid apps I know of have manual push updates to the store.
Isn't automatic build basically for nightlies?
Thank you so much! :highfive:I exist still... do you know what i have to do to transfer ownership? if i edit project it doesn't let me change the primary author so i assume i have to PM some higher up to make this happen?
Thank you too!
