I don't understand why Samsung needed to release so many different variants of the same phone. Wouldn't it cost them way less to just focus on one device software upgrade then to fiddle around with 43683234 different variants?

Samsung doesn't have an LTE modem ready. Why all samsung galaxy s3 in America will have an s4 processor. Also samsung doesn't support all bands either. They would need to make a pentaband phone. Qualcomm has already integrated LTE in to its soc.

I am running this kernel leak on the NexusMod ROM from the Skyrocket forums. Just ran a test on AnTuTu and it shows the cpu running at 1512.
I know when i have ran this test on ROM's that were governed down, it always shows the correct cpu speed.
EDIT: This test was run without forced gpu rendering turned on or it would have been at least a lil higher.

so what does all this mean for the t989? cause I thought I read mr.x saying he had a modem and kernel leak?

We did get a leak for the modem and kernel for the t989, which is what mr. x posted. We are just waiting on the system dump for the t989. We also got a system dump for the Note, which is what whitehawkx posted, and people are getting that confused with the t989 system dump.
It means that in due time thanks to the user "arahma" we will most likely have a full T-Mobile ICS leak. I have gotten in contact with this user to provide assistance with the dumping if needed.
The leak note--while helpful--will be virtually useless if a T989 leak does pop up today. The only use I could see for it is to pull out the ICS Wi-Fi calling APKs if they're missing for whatever reason.
It also means that the state of ICS on our phone has been excited to another stage..we have native GL/audio/sensor drivers on our phone as well as crucial firmwares that are specific to the T989 model. The kernel and modem are also meant for our model and fix small abnormalities that stem from the Skyrocket leaks.
The kernel and modem that Mr. X made flashable came from a post in this thread by a guy that is supposed to be working on getting a system dump of the T989.
Also, there is something that should be paid attention to.
The boot.img that was leaked has a touch/modification date of 03/23/2012. Meaning that--unless this touch date was modified (I doubt)--this release was compiled by samsung on 03/23/2012. Please note that this is 3 days before the date of the first skyrocket leak and quite a bit before the 04/07 UCLD2 leak and we all know how buggy those are.
It isn't yet clear if this will be a pre-final release or if this was a testing release.

Instructions on flashing DARKSIDE.EVOLUTION:
* FULL WIPE ALWAYS *
01. Download ROM (Link is Below)
02. BACKUP ALL APPS with preferred method (ie: Rom Toolbox, Titanium, My Backup, etc..)
03. Place ROM on ROOT of your SD card. (ie: /sdcard)
04. Boot into Recovery Mode
05. Do a NAND BACKUP!!!
06. Flash DARKSIDE.SUPER.WIPE (OPTIONAL - ROM will do this by default)
07. Flash an ICS ready radio (Links below)
08. Flash ROM.
09. After flashing is complete, Reboot...
10. Let device sit for 10min without touching, then reboot.
11. Done!
Please don't start flashing any mods that were not done by me! Unless the mod was specifically made for this rom, with parts from this rom. Don't flash any radios unless they're specifically for ICS, the ril from gb roms will cause phone not to boot.
I know that ICS is new and a lot of people are unfamiliar. You must read! Please don't think ICS is anything similar to gingerbread.

ONLY USE THIS IF YOU NEED TO WIPE CACHE'S OR FIX PERMISSIONS IN CLOCKWORK MOD RECOVERY. THIS IS TO BE FLASHED IN RECOVERY! This replaces the need for using the broken built in CWM recovery functions. The DARKSIDE.CACHE.WIPE script will wipe both the /cache partition and the dalvik cache. After its has completed the wipe, it will then fix permissions (the correct way). This should hopefully fix that damn ICS reboot hang issue once and for all.

90Here is where I stand after a lot of thought on all this.. I am a firm believer in pushing the community forward. Innovation, creativity, and originality are the keys into doing this. I am definetly not happy with the way people act around here, especially some of the new "devs". There is no sense in not helping the community when I am able. I know that I can deliver a solid ROM based off the stock Samsung firmware. It will continue along the line of minimal ui changes and focus more on ux. Updates will not be as rapid and before, but development will be consistent until I am happy with where the project ends up. I will be moving in 2 days, so I don't think I will have anything ready for another week or so. This is not an eta, just letting you know where I am at... let's do the damn thing and show them that there feeble skills are no match for the power of the DARKSIDE!65If anyone is still interested.. Expect an update with the new UVLH1 android 4.0.4. NO ETA..
Taking requests for things people would like to see.. will not guarantee I will implement everything suggested.. but open for ideas55I will be releasing v2 BETA01 tonight. V2 rebases of the uvcl8 t989 base and gives us back all functionality. Base is stable and screaming fast. Plus I know a lot of people will be happy to get wifi calling back... no exact time, but sometime tonight for sure. Still a few things that I have to do.. but I know u guys will be more than happy with my progress. To note, everything works within the rom
