Thanks for the easy root process..I do have a question tho. Is there a recovery program we can use for this model fire? I read that there is clockworks and twrp, but is that just for the fire original?

I picked up the downloads for the Qmenuroot. Installed the ADB drivers referred to in the OP. In my Win7 system's devices manager, I see the ADB driver for the Kindle Fire HD listed as working correctly. Also, the USB driver is in & working, and I can transfer files to/from the kindle. (though I had to re-install the USB driver after I installed the ADB driver)

The problem now is that when I type "ADB devices", it tells me that there are no devices available. Unplug/plug in the USB connection, wait for a bit, "ADB kill-server", "ADB devices" and still no devices available. I have a CMD prompt open in the correct directory. Tried rebooting the kindle, unplug/plug in the USB connector, all kinds of combinations.

I'd like to root this, in anticipation of a JB build for it, (or even ICS) but without ADB, I don't see how.

Has anyone had an issue like this that they have solved? I haven't mastered ADB in any sense, though I've used it to good effect before to un-brick my TF101.

TIA;
Patrick

got it. My file,
"C:\Users\<your username>\.android\adb_usb.ini"

now hjas the line in it,
"# ANDROID 3RD PARTY USB VENDOR ID LIST -- DO NOT EDIT.
# USE 'android update adb' TO GENERATE.
# 1 USB VENDOR ID PER LINE.
0x1949"

And that allowed ADB to see the KFHD7

InstalledADB, device manager recognizing kindle, but wexperiencing same problem. I'm assuming I need to do something with the adb_usb.ini filr (which I have located)but where to I put this file so that my computer will recognizethe kindle as an external device? So far, not recognizing and when I try to root through the RootQemu file to root my KF2 it's telling me that ADB is not recognizing my device.

12 hours into trying to hack the KF2 and still no luck.

New Kindle Fire HD 7, ADB not finding device

I just opened a Kindle HD with software 7.1.5 and cant get the ROOT to work as described. Someone mentioned in this thread they got it to work with different drivers. Can you please provide a link for those drivers.

Thanks

So I cannot get ADB to work with my kindle fire hd. ADB recognizes my galaxy s 3, and the fire shows up the device manager under mobile devices, but cannot get it to recognize. I have done the 'android update adb' and installed all I could from the SDK manager, and still no luck.
I am on windows 8, but I don't think that is a problem since my other devices recognize.

Any suggestions?
I cannot find the ini file everyone refers eto, and adb is turned on.

The first link are just adb instructions from amazon, but the second link is instructions to get kindle fire add-ons(including usb drivers) for SDK. They are not standard in the sdk manager. These are directly from amazon.

Awesome. Thank You!

I figured I was missing the right drivers for kindle on adb, but couldnt get the drivers posted in other threads to install, and device manager recognized the device, just not as an adb device. Thanks for the link. :)

Hope it works for you. I had my drivers working fine. Somehow they got screwed up and I couldn't get adb to recognize my device, I tried everything until I found those links on another thread. Worked fine after installing add-ons then running [android update adb] and restarting adb

This tool will root your device based on my qemu local.prop root method.

Just download and unzip everything into a directory; then run RootQemu.bat from that directory (if you do not currently have the device drivers for your device, they are attached to this post, please install them, please use them to install your device before attempting the process).

A video with how to do this is available here http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=31728742

Neither ADB nor the SDK need to be installed as all needed files are included in the attachments below (though it won't hurt anything if they are).

Helpful tip:
Make sure no other Android device is connected to your PC

Are the files still active? i cant seem to download them

Is there a way to run this on a mac? I have ADB installed on my macbook, I'm trying to get this to work on Win7 running under Parallels but it never seems to fully connect (ADB shows no device installed, however my galaxy S3 connects fine). I have the drivers installed, not sure what else to try.

If it can work on a mac that would be great.

OH SH*T! My little experiment worked. I know that a bat file is just a text file with very basic (read: plain text) commands. I opened it as text on my mac and copied and pasted every "ADB...command" line from that to the terminal. WEll that worked. Goddamn!

Anyone else can confirm it's working with the new 7.2.1? Only seeing one person brave enough to try and thanks for sharing lol

Confirmed working for 7.2.1. My KFHD was updated today, lost root, and this exploit still worked. Thanks much to the dev.

Can you tell me your solution? I just purchased two blacklisted HD's, and they're on 7.2.3

First I had to execute Runme.bat from root_with_restore_by_bin4ry_v17.zip

This allows QemuRoot to install root.

I haven't even started the rooting process yet. Been reading up as much as I can in the different threads. I have KFHD7 with 7.3.1. So far in all of the threads, I've read that 7.3.1 had the exploit corrected an could not be rooted. However, none of the sticky topics mention it, so I've been looking for a post confirming this OS version as being successfully rooted.
