My USB port on the charger does not seem to work correctly it will not charge my phone but if I keep plugging it in and unplugging it occasionally it will start charging the charger charges the surface fine really annoying now I am unable to charge my phone whilst away.

Unless you think you can crack it open and repair it yourself (your own your own there) you will probably require warranty replacement. My bet is on a dodgy solder joint myself.

1Well first of all double check its not the phone. Then warranty replacement may be necessary if it is actually the charger.
