Hi everyone.
I got a 8800pro of a friend in my hands and wanted to update it with the latest kernel in the first post.
My problem is I can't find clear instructions on how to do this. All I could find is a reference to some "APP" files that i have to put in a "dload" folder in SD and then update.
But the download only has a "gz" file!!!
Are there any instructions for someone new to u8800pro?
Shouldn't they be in the first post?

Since upgrading to this ROM, My Wifi always says "error" when I try to turn on and when I search for available providor networks, my results are only in 2G. I havemade sure that the "enable only 2G Networks" is not ticked and even tried toggling it to be sure it was not stuck for some reason. I have wiped everythiing and installed but still no luck. Any ideas what else could be controlling me from connecting to 3G networks?
I also changes the SIM to another providor and still same issue so the problem is not the SIM.

I am searching for two days now without success, so could some kind soul help me with idiot-proof (ok, nothing is idiot-proof...) instructions?
The links in this thread (and other threads) needed to upgrade Huawei U8800 Pro are mostly dead.
I would like to upgrade my 2.2.2 to 2.3.5 and furthermore to 4.x and some good, stable, fast custom ROM based on 4.x.
So atm i am stuck at first point: upgrade from 2.2.2 to 2.3.5. Can anyone help me with working links?
Research so far:
- i read that it is good to backup your IMEI (http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1591997), but how can i do that on 2.2.2 that isnt rooted?
- i downloaded files from Huawei site, for 2.3 update this one: HUAWEI Ideos firmware(U8800Pro,Android 2.3,V100R001C00B521,Oversea Normal) (V100R001C00B521), extracted UPDATE.APP to dload folder on sdcard that is in the phone and powered on with volume up+down. At that point it started updating but said "Update failed" after unpacking. In the dload file there is a file now in which it says: "dload_sd_ram_data_proc->(retry >= DLOAD_RETRY) failed! "
- i downloaded from Huawei site update for 4.0 (http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwi...=toDownloadFile&flay=software&softid=NDY1NTY=) but i cant do much with that one before i get it to 2.3

The B521 release has only step 2 , you'll gonna need also step 1 and 3.

Looking on 2013 the first post on the forum to be official 2.3.5 when 4.2.2 is out there makes me feel sader about my phone...thank god his days are over!!

It doesn't install root explorer, and it doesnt delete cust.img, but still should give you root access. To have the clock widget just put cust.img I've uploaded earlier into image folder from pink screen mode
Hey guys! I won't fix my boot.img.
It will work that way
you put my boot.img into image folder via pink screen,
boot phone once,
then boot into pink screen again,
restore stock boot.img and that's all
the phone is rooted and no overhead at start because of those modified boot.img's.

3.1 from Android 2.3.5 (C00B511G001) upgrade to the current version of the guidance
3.1.1 Prepare a 512M (with 512M) over-capacity SD card;

I have to warn you: DO NOT TRY to restore backups made with old recovery (and backups of stock froyo ROM). Use this recovery with caution as it is still not fully tested. If something goes wrong - you will have to flash this stock 2.3 ROM again. If you have such a situation - please write me, I'll try to fix the recovery.2
