New features 1.38
Pre notification intro sound

Starting with version 1.38 the immediate "car" mode notifications will be preceded by a soft "click" sound and a 3 seconds delay (if either "shake to mute" or "wave to mute" modes are enabled, and no music is playing). You can prevent the notification read out by shaking or waving at the phone after you hear the intro "click".

External car mode control using intents

You can enable / disable immediate read-out ("car mode") by sending the following intent to Touchless Notifications:
  • mime type= text/plain
  • data= "car:n" / "car:h" / "car:a" (never / headset / always, don't include quotation marks)
  • package= hu.viczian.notifications.pro
  • class= hu.viczian.notifications.pro.setting
  • target= Activity

Use Send Intent command from Tasker, leave fields blank which are not mentioned above.

New beta 1.39
You can tell I've been using the app while driving. A few wrinkles had to be ironed out...

► pre-announcement warning: yellow LED light
► two finger swipe pauses read-out until choice is made
► wake phone* to display notifications (+1 option under Full screen notifications)

*New permission is needed for this option: WAKE_LOCK
When the screen is turned off, you can have the screen turn on for the duration of the notification read-out.

To become a beta tester of the Pro version please join this Google+ community: Touchless Notifications Beta testers

I am curious if anybody is hating the newly added pre-announcement warning click sound & delay? In this beta I am also making the led flash funny 3 sec before the read-out

I created a poll here: https://plus.google.com/101777054779...ts/dgbLFNk6Mgu (vote using +1's in comments below the Google+ post)

Full screen notifications
When to show notifications? When to wake device? When to play pre-notification intro sound? It can get pretty complex.

A few settings in the app control this behavior:
  • Full screen notifications (never / for summary / for immediate)
  • Car mode (never / with headset / always)
  • Wake phone to show notifications? (in the Full Screen display setting)
  • Pre-notification warning (setting in next app version)

Their effect depend on a good number of cicumstances (device states):
  • Is headset plugged in?
  • Is music playing?
  • Is screen turned on or off?
  • Is the proximity sensor covered (in pocket)?

Actions:
  • always speak the notification
  • should it wait 3 sec before saying? (pre-notification warning: turn led on, make click sound, 3s delay)
  • Show the notification (wake the display if it's off)

Version 1.41 released
Both Free and Pro versions:
+New Notification bar actions: toggle car mode, settings, start summary (expand notification using two fingers) - added on user's suggestion
*Improved Google+ notification announcement
*Other improvements in getting the expanded notification content

The notification bar action buttons were added on the suggestion of a user. The whole car mode came from a feature request. Other bugs were quickly fixed when they had been reported.

Please let me know if something could be made more convenient for you!

Version 1.42 released
Both Free and Pro editions version 1.42:
+incoming calls will abort non-displayed immediate announcements too
*install-location: internal only (does it install on HTCOne now?)
*fixed 2 kinds of force closes at incoming calls (sorry about them)
*improved reading out expanded notification text (gmail, hangouts etc)

I made Touchless Notifications to respect incoming and outgoing phone calls, but it turned out it only worked when the Full screen notification display was enabled also. In version 1.42 I now took care of them.

Looking at the crash reports I found two shameful bugs also around the interactions of incoming calls and my app. Fortunately always the calls had won, but my app would die a miserable FC death as a result. No more. My app gracefully puts its hand in front of its mouth, stays quiet and steps in the background as soon as a phone call appears

Somebody reported a strange message from an HTC One: "Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card". What makes this message strange is that my app having an always present service, never wanted to be installed on the SD card (which the HTC One doesn't even have as I understand). Anyway, I don't really know what to make of this message. As a preemptive move, no I explicitly set

android:installLocation="internalOnly"

in my AndroidManifest.xlm

Could somebody with an HTC One please test it to see if it installs correctly now?

New: "Quick" settings mode
Version 1.43beta1
+Quick settings screen with only the most essential options (on phones. Tablets have a hierarchical settings screen which I think makes it less confusing)
+Test and language icons updated

Touchless Notifications is getting really convoluted with the plethora of options lately (36 items!).

This is my attempt to make it easier for the new user:

I picked the most essential settings for the simplified settings screen shown below. You can switch between the "Quick" and the "Andvanced" modes, and the app will remember your choice.

Pentecost sale = 50% off
I feel the app is mature enough to be made known more widely, hence the temporary price reduction.

I hope more users will bring more ideas to make Touchless Notifications most useful for everybody

You are welcome to spread the news
