First thing would be makeing a boot.img from the zImage and initrd.

Have you tried ./split_bootimg.pl boot.img with a boot.img for the transformer.
This give you important information for buliding a woriking boot.img for the transformer.

I think the size of the sections are important. Split_boot_imp.pl should give you somthing like:
Page size: 2048 (0x00000800)
Kernel size: 1388548 (0x00153004)
Ramdisk size: 141518 (0x000228ce)
Second size: 0 (0x00000000)
Board name:
Command line: no_console_suspend=1
Writing boot.img-kernel ... complete.
Writing boot.img-ramdisk.gz ... complete.

I think mkbootimg can be used.
Mkbootimg will be build with a generic build of the android sources.
The mkbootimg can be found under /system/core/mkbootimg.

I have changed the default sizes in mkbootimg.c at line 119 for the Desire HD before the first generic build of the android sources.

Just saw this on the NVIDIA developers' site:

by David Weller, posted Jun 29 2011 at 12:14AM

NVIDIA is pleased to announce that Linux for Tegra release 12 alpha 1 is now available! Please see the release notes below for caveats and known issues. We're working hard to work out as many kinks as we can.

Release notes
Driver package
Sample filesystem (derived from Ubuntu 11.04, "Natty Narwhal")
Sample filesystem README
Sample filesystem source

Seems like it, but they released bins not the source, so we are gonna be stuck at one kernel. O well it's better than nothing I guess.
