Relax.

Turn the phone off/pull the battery and put it back in.

Do not turn on the phone.

Leave it plugged in until fully charged.

Then factory reset in recovery... reflash if that won't work.

If you panic, there is a chance you will do something silly.

man you have got to help me or I will jump out the window.
I have tried to clean the usb port pins with alcohol with a piece of paper and plastic torn from plastic bag (of course the battery removed first). The device worked well for a few minutes and turned on good and allowed me to activate debugging. This allowed me to use odin and root the device and install cwm. Then I installed your v17 rocket rom via sd card. but while I was still on stock the charging issue came back once I restarted the phone. but with debugging activated, I was able to install rocket rom on it. I also did a battery stat wipe. Now I will do exactly what you have told me. I shut off the phone but when I put in the battery, the charging grey battery icon came back and then turned into green charging animation on the battery. the abyss loading logo also appeared. Note: I didn't turn on the cell. The cell thinks usb cable is connected even when its not. so now I have connected it to power and see if it reaches 100% charged and then I will do a recovery reset or a reflash. I hope you have seen this issue before and know for a fact its not hardware issue. thanks in advance.

You tried flashing a different Kernel? Perhaps a CF LA1?

Guys what's the status of bln (back light notification) on the note?
What do we need to have them in this Rom?

Freeze Wifi-Sharing

IMPORTANT2: Freeze Wifi-Sharing <-- by this, I cant use Portable Wi-Fi hotspot feature??
YES you can still used the wifi hotspot feature
No you won't , if you want to use that don't freeze them or it won't work any more.
I'm a little confused here. Can we still use tethering/hotspot or does freezing wi-fi sharing precisely inhibits that functionality?

Wouldn't defrosting wi-fi sharing, renable the ability tether; such that freezing and defrost would be equivalent to turning it on and off?

As a long-time lurker in this thread, and a "user" since V13 I thought it was time to pipe up and say thanks to Eybee.

This ROM is designed for having great performance with outstanding battery life!
I added all Mods and tweaks I supposed to be useful for me personally - so don't complain if you do not like, cause it's mainly made for me :)

No complaints/requests from me - I'm happy to follow the evolution of this ROM where ever Eybee takes it. Judging by the number of posts in this thread many other users are happy to have a rocket in their pocket too :D

i turned off the phone, took out the battery and then reinstalled it and battery icon came on, even before I connected the usb. the i charged it full, turned on the phone and went into cwm and restarted in recovery, did a reset and started the phone. the problem persists and phone thinks its still connected to usb cord. I am bummed. I think its a usb port defect. so now I have flashed the original n7000ubkk1 firmware (in download mode) to see if this will restore the phone. Now I still have the same old problem and now the phone is in boot loop of samsung logo and space animation. ufffff. I am going crazy.

Ever since upgrading from V16 to V17, I notice a significant lag even in simple tasks such as scrolling through the Live Wallpaper selection screen.
I wiped caches before flashing the update. Anyone else have the problem?

V16 was zippier and almost lag-free.

Though it's been less than a day since i installed v17 on my note, i must say that this ROM has been the most COMPLETE among the roms i have installed.

Prior to installing v17, i was using CheckROM v3, which is very fast and very light compared to most ROMs. What nags me most is that, some of the stock functions present on the original ROM, is no longer functional (i.e. quick notes no longer work, and i've read that it has been solved so kudos), plus the somewhat weak signal i've been experiencing using WiFi.

I was waiting for v17 to be released, and installed it on first notice.

I did a complete wipe (factory reset, wipe cache, wipe davlik, and some more like wipe system, wipe data, wipe emmc, but not wipe sdcard (since all of my files and backups are present in my sdcard), ensuring that my note is as clean and clear as a blue sky. Mounted USB storage in CWM and connected the usb in my PC to transfer v17 in my sdcard. Unmounted the usb storage once the transfer was done and proceeded to install zip from sdcard.

Once the flashing was done, did an initial boot, and after the initial setup, rebooted it again (as was outlined in the 1st page).

And it was picture perfect. My note no longer feels sluggish to use. It is quite easy to notice the quick battery usage during the initial use, but i dismiss the notion since it's obvious that the battery WILL drain faster than usual since you'll be setting your note the way you want it to.

So far, there has been no fc's i've encountered, and all the features that the original note can do has worked without hiccups. Haven't tested paid apps in the market, but downloading apps works. The only problem, is that my locale is set in GB (great britain), but you can simply download an app in the market to change your locale (i'm from the Philippines), and problem is solved.

I am very much satisfied that there is very minimal battery consumption when the phone is in idle mode. After the initial charge, the note just barely consumes at most 2mA when left in idle mode. After 6 hours, only 2% was drained.

Other launchers are as smooth as butter. I've settled with ADWLauncherPro and emulated the desktop style from coldfustion's vids, with my own personal preferences to boot.

Initial experience shows that this ROM has met my expectations, and in some cases, exceeds them.

Great Work, and thank you to the developers of this rom. I think i will settle down on this, until i see the need to upgrade, most preferably to ICS.

Eybee,
you've mentioned a few times on this thread that sometimes you need to reboot in order for the CPU to go into deep sleep state.
During those times when your CPU doesn't go in deep sleep, what do you see in your BetterBatteryStats?

The reason why I ask is because I've noticed an odd behaviour with the latest 2-3 releases of your ROM. Basically, I do a full wipe, I flash the ROM and the Standard Theme, I reboot twice, I freeze WiFi Sharing and WiFi Sharing manager, I reboot again, I install CPU Spy and BetterBatteryStats (and nothing else!), and my battery drains like hell because of 3 Kernel wakelocks:
  • wlan_rx_wake
  • wlan_wake
  • svnet

They're all related to WiFi - and in fact, when I turn off WiFi, the drain stops, only to restart as soon as I turn it back on. This doesn't happen when I flash a stock ROM, with which those wakelocks never show up.

Now... is this the same symptom that you're experiencing when you say that before rebooting 2-3 times sometimes the CPU doesn't go in deep sleep? Have you got any idea about what can be causing the drain? I really like your ROM better than any stock one, and I would love to keep using it...

Thank you!

ccristal

EDIT: solved it. It happens with both the 2.6.35.14-based kernels (FM and Abyss). Doesn't happen with CF (based on 2.6.35.7).

Same or similiar problem here.
So I need to use CF-Kernel and can't use the fast Abyss if I want to solve this? :(

Guys,I don't know whether it's only me but I notice some difference in scrolling between the browser in V17 compared to the one I had last time in V12..
In V12,after you tap and fit to screen, when you flick your finger up to scroll, the page will scroll perfectly vertical..in V17,the scrolling is sometimes diagonal..you really need to flick vertically to get proper vertical page scrolling...anyone notice this?

svnet isn't a kernel related wakelock specifically.

It shows as a kernel related wakelock but is in fact triggered by Fast Dormancy (Google it if you want an explanation).

You can disable Fast Dormancy through *#*#9900#*#*

You will still get low svnet related wakelocks but they will be within an acceptable parameter. These wakelocks are particularly present in areas of poor network coverage.

Changing kernels will not help you. Using a baseband not matched to your firmware might be a cause, but on the other hand, changing basebands might help. You will have to experiment to see which works best for you, on your device, in your location.

THX nobnut. I'm backing up now and flash LA3-Modem. We will see.
But what's up with the wlan-wakelocks? Did not notice them before v17...

Freezing or deleting the WiFi sharing apps will help... unless you use them of course!

If you use them, it's kind of tough luck. People will need to wait for Samsung to improve the situation.

Making sure that WiFi is turned off when not being used is also a pretty good idea.

@nobnut

Thanks a lot for your v17 dark theme :).

Am I right, that the S-Memo app is no longer themed in your dark style or is it a problem of my configuration (I'm using CFC v3 rom, that based on Rocket v17, but cleaned some things up).

Thanks in advance

Lars

Hi Lars,

Ummm, I think it's still in there...

Yes, I've just checked and it's still there. If the app doesn't show in your system, then there is something wrong. I'm not sure what that could be.

EDIT: You probably won't have the phone.apk in your zip (as per my screenshot) because I am working on something else in there for a future release maybe.

Once we first get great performance with Rocket Rom, we then of course want it to go on all day too! ;-)

Rocket V17 XLA3 looking pretty good! I'm going to a known coverage area so I can test it and report the results. Seems so far better than KL7.

If you mean testing svnet wakelock issues in a good coverage area with the LA3 baseband using BBS, then you must:

1. Buy a sandwich and a drink (this will take some time - the choice of sandwich filling will probably not have any impact on the results of this test) ;)
2. Go to said area
3. Open BBS and set a 'custom ref'
4. Put the phone to sleep (screen off)
5. Wait for at least an hour (two or more hours is better)
6. Eat your sandwich if you get hungry
7. Drink your drink if you get thirsty (or even if you don't get thirsty as thirst is a very poor indication of your body's hydratrion level)
8. After alloted timeframe wake the device up
9. Open BBS and check 'kernel wakelocks' since 'custom ref'
10. Then check 'partial wakelocks' since 'custom ref'
11. Return from said area.

I wasn't going to be so specific. But now you have let me know what I need to do, I'll do that. Its my parents south eastern Australian farm so sandwiches will be provided for me ;-)

If you can tell me the name of an app or something that I can try the same thing out with different modems then I'm happy to do that and gather data for other more radio competent people to analyse.

I could let it go over night on two nights and also a few times during the day also.
What tests would be helpful and in what order of priority depending on how much time i get to do it?

    Changelog ROCKET ROM-V19_1-XXLA4

    • build in JKay Mod alpha 2 (look here for all features working: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1439635)
    • StockLook Theme identical with JKay's (watch pics here: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1439635)
    • build in ICS transitions in framework
    • small fixes for speed and smoothness (I think it is perfect now for GB and no more improvements possible :))
    • deleted unlock messages for all languages
    • added AppWidget Picker (automatically sorting widgets using alternative launchers)
    • deleted lidroids 14 toggle (as it is useless with JKay :))
    • rest is identical to v19
IMPORTANT1: ROM is NoWipe, but I STRONGLY recommend to do a FullWipe before!! You have to install v19 after FullWipe first, then reboot your device and then install v19_1 with NO WIPE afterwards - if you install v19_1 directly after FullWipe you will get bootloop! No bug reports without making FullWipe before!!! Reboot your device twice after flashing ROM!!!
    IMPORTANT2: Freeze Wifi-Sharing
IMPORTANT3: There is no need to flash any previous updates on top - it's all included!

    Installation Instructions:

This is a NO WIPE ROM. So just flash in Recovery wiping Caches before. If you experience any problems or FCs, do a Full Wipe!
Do a Nandroid backup before you flash my ROM!!!

    Do you have Battery Drain?

If you face any kind of battery drain, this is most probably NOT a ROM-issue!!!
--> here is what you can do:

    - REBOOT your device after EVERY FLASH you are doing - and you will NEVER face any unexpected Heat Up or battery drain!
    - dont judge the ROM before you did not fully charge your phone after each ROM-Flash for at least 4-6 hours...this is needed to calibrate your battery!!!
    - install CPU Spy from market and watch if your device is going in deep sleep mode
    - use the App BetterBatteryStats (you'll find here on xda for free!) to find wakelocks and powerdraining apps

    General 'Save energy tipps':

    - switch to GSM mode to save battery
    - deactivate wifi, gps, bluetooth when you not currently use it
    - don't use any taskkillers, they are completly useless and might have negative effects on battery
    - deactivate Latitude, Facebook, Twitter and any kind of 'auto-updating' widgets, if you do not really need or use them
    - deactivate automatic google-sync, if you do not really need it
    - dial *#9900# and deactivate 'Fast Dormancy'
    - deactivate Auto Login in Google Talk App
    - deactivate Update of Samsung Apps in Settings - Applications - Samsung Apps

    ok, guys....

development on Rocket ROM is stopped for now - thread will be closed soon.

There are several reasons that lead me to that decision...one of them is lack of time, other is that I find nothing to improve on GB, and a third one...

I thank you all for your support and loyalty! Maybe Rocket comes back on ICS - who knows.

    Bye

    @nickyg008

I congratulate you for actually reading the thread! You are a true hero!

I want to apologise to everyone for being a **** earlier. I was in a bad mood and I let it out in the wrong way. If I ever feel like that again, I will read these last few posts :)

You guys are great. How could I stop? I can't as I enjoy it. Thank you to everyone and especially eybee1970.

Theme tomorrow morning, nice and early!

Right. Now I have to study some statistics and accounting procedures... ouch.

I go away for a couple of days and look what happens ;) (joke)

It's good to see you all again (well, nearly all of you). Looking forward to next week when we can carry on making RocketRom bigger, better, faster, stronger than ever.

    Keep the faith.
