I've had a lot of people ask me which firmware versions include the fixed secondary bootloader which allows the phone to register itself with OS X when in download mode. Obviously if the fixed secondary bootloader isn't on a device then Heimdall (OS X version) won't be able to detect the device.

As such I've decided to create a listing of firmware versions that include the fixed Sbl.bin. Note that I won't be including links, I'll just be naming firmware versions.

If you have a Galaxy S setup that is detected in OS X, that is not already on the list. Then please submit the name of the firmware and the type of phone (from the following list).

I should have been more clear. Is there a way to read the version or build date on my phone?

In the land of the blind
There are two different versions of IBL+PBL out there.
While both of them are good the old IBL+PBL seems to be incompatible with newer SBL versions.

The new IBL+PBL was used for the first time in JM1 level S/W versions.

MD5 hash for the old version is 2FA54AC1926E6D371947C46B05CD6FE7 and 445491B1AEC42FE35F3A2505C4E74295 for the new version (raw images, not dumps).

With the SBL it is a bit more complicated since there is atleast ten different versions for I9000 alone. Only two of these are rotten (-> 3-button, key press wake function disabled).

So there is no way to fix this without using a windows machine?

When I connect to the device using Heimdall 1.3 I get:

Code:
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
Failed to detect compatible download-mode device.

Which will look obviously familiar I guess.

I'm was hoping to upgrade without Windows somehow (still on an older version of ECLAIR). But as I gather from this thread, there will be no connection from OSX to the download-mode galaxy before I've upgraded the SDL (which I can't do because I can't connect to it from OSX in the first place).

Does that sum things up correctly, or am I missing some cool trick here?

Just for my education, can someone explain how the device connects perfectly in normal mode with Kies for Mac, or as mass storage, but it can't connect in download-mode? I am really missing the basic knowledge; links will help.

Oh no so is this why I'm having so much difficulty getting my mac to see the Galaxy S2
It USB mounts while in normal mode and is visible through the system profiler in both modes. But Kies won't talk to it MAC version or PC version on Parallels.
ODIN on Parallels can see it in normal mode but not in download mode.
Heimdall detect gives me "Failed to detect compatible download-mode device"
Difficult to sort out if the computer can't talk to it
