Since Calk's Roms are my favorite place to be, I thought I would drop this here.

As some of you already know the Galaxy SIII rom was released recently. You really should check out the new Svoice app ripped from that rom. Please try it out and let me know if it works for you! Thanks.

Galaxy SIII - S-voice flashable zip: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/57223406/Galaxy.SIII.Svoice.zip

Edit: I had to put this out on dropbox, the app is about 30mb.

Thanks

The one in the app section didn't work for me kept getting major force closes. But your flash is running flawlessy! Thanks again!

No, there is no right way... ;) I just like to be very specific with instructions. I see SO many posts with 'experienced' users telling newbies how to flash a rom or anything else and the lack of detailed legible instructions have always bothered me. What is obvious to you and I isn't necessarily true for the next guy. This is why you will always see me post things in as much detail as possible. I also keep everything saved in a document so I don't have to type so much. :D

---------- Post added at 04:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:57 PM ----------

BTW, not long ago, I told a user to call Sprint, the tech didn't know what the second ##.....# code was.
So that's why I ended up having to just write out the whole procedure for her to do on her own.

(Although their tech department was humane...)
I definitely didn't mean actually CALL SPRINT... I won't even bother you guys with the details of my 7 Day Seattle Sprint Battle... :/
And all sarcasm aside I meant it thanks for the clarity. I'm lazy sometimes, but not when matters. If you somehow break one of these on a ##72786# you were in the wrong place anyway....
(And I'm as nooby as they come ;)

Use Sfhub's One click to odin back to EL29 (you can use EL26, but I've use EL29 many times flashing back from ICS)

http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1433101

This should take you back to stock, then you need to run his Auto-root to gain root access and install CWM recovery

http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1342728

Then in CWM, run Calk's format all and then install Calk's 3.0 rom. Just a reminder, when you Odin back to EL29, your modem gets back to EL29 as well. If you want to run one of the ICS modems, just flash that modem zip in recovery.

This pretty much applies to flashing any rom:
If you just installed it, the rule of thumb on ANY rom is to let it settle for at least 2-3 full charge cycles.
The first day is typically, but not always, poor battery life. Give it a chance and if it doesn't settle in properly or you are having other multiple problems, you may have to reflash the rom again.
It is easy to blame problems on the rom, but be patient and ask questions. That is why we are here. :)

Unfortunately, that's going to be hard to suggested because it all depends on what you have installed and running in the background. Every phone is going to be different due to everyone's phone usage. You can download betterbatterystats and see which apps are using alot of the battery.

Aside from the normal battery saving tips, not every phone will have the same battery life. That's just how it is. Personally I'm back on Calk's 2.9.2 because I can squeeze out almost 2 days before a charge. One Calk's 1.5, the most I got was a day, which is excellent by my own standards, but I'm the type that likes to push the limits :D

Plus I can live without ICS for now until it's finally official.

I know this may not be an answer you're looking for, but sometimes it is what it is.

+1
Additionally, I would suggest a complete odin back to stock, redownload the rom and reflash it according to the instructions in the OP.

Calk battery tweaks by Kobridge

Thanks KO.

A lot of us have been running his tweaks for a while and it's been quite an improvement.
Please don't forget to visit the original development thread located here:
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1658471

And the release thread posted here:
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1625299

There is a ton of information on both sites so please take the time to read up on it for general battery saving tips and the tweaks too of course. :D

My phone had outstanding battery life for the first 4 days with all my normal apps installed. Now it seems to be doing worst and getting warmer. I'm trying to figure out what's different... anyone else experience this? the only things that have updated since the better battery life were Facebook, Google Maps, Soundhound

Tons of folks have reported bad battery life with Facebook installed. Try to uninstall and monitor the impact.

modem flashing on ics

still wrapping my head around the epic4gt here. Can someone educate me on safely flashing a modem on this rom. Not doing well with stock and dont want to risk a brick. More specifically can I use mobile odin ? (tar of course) Are people flashing with the included repacked kernel or odin back to a el26cwm first ?\

I flash everything with the included recovery. The safest way is to use Odin or mobile Odin however. Still, never had a problem in this ROMs recovery.

I'm not sure if it's still a problem or not but a lot of people have reported problems flashing modems with MO. Be prepared to flash multiple tines or simply use Odin.

All other parts flash normally.

When you say let it settle for 2-3 days do you mean try not to use it at all? Just wondering because ever sense going from Caulks GB to his ICS I'm getting the same horrible battery life. I mean maybe one 10min phone call and checking a few emails and it barley lasts 12hrs.

Should I do the wipe on the original post and then flash the rom and basically dont install any apps? Can I setup email to sync contacts?

Just trying to figure out what I should do to give it the best possible chance to get good battery life again. Just a little frustrated.

Thanks for the help!

The battery settling was just a general statement that applies to any ROM. I wouldn't say that 12 hrs is horrible for an ICS rom. I've seen tons of complaints about battery life with ICS and also I've seen some people getting pretty good battery life.

Honestly, I have always struggled with battery life. From my experience, every phone has a different experience with roms. I see claims of over 24 hours battery life with pretty decent usage but I've NEVER been able to achieve that with any rom (on my phone).

Let me ask, what has your experience been like running a GB rom like Calk's or Blazer ROM? If you can get really nice usage out of the GB roms (and that is what you want your goal is), I would stick with those for now. The ICS roms are still going through growing pains and you have to expect that it's not going to be perfect.

I ran Calks GB rom for a long time and it was awesome, super snappy with awesome battery life. I would use it for mutiple phone calls, text messages, email, a game here or there and would be at 40-50% or so when I charged it at night. But with the ICS rom its super slow trying to switch screens, and it always drains the battery super fast. For example I unplugged my phone from the charger and its already at 83%. I havent even used the phone, no games, to text, to phone calls, its just sitting there and its been off the charger for only 2.5 hrs. That hopefully isnt normal.

Anyways I'm guessing I just just go back to Calks GB rom. However if I do that I've read that I can brick my phone. Is there a easy or proper process on how to go back to GB?

Thanks for editing my post, I tend to drone on... ;)
Odin back to stock rooted GB. I posted a tutuorial here if you need it:

http://xdaforums.com/showpost.php?p=24158551&postcount=9980

Also, you may want to save your stuff and format your internal and external SD's before doing the stock rooted restore to remove any residual app or temp files to make sure you truly start out fresh.

Can be used with any kernels that have init.d support

It completely eliminates the need for an application to set CPU speeds or profiles
Easily customizable if you use a text editor(scripts located in /system/etc/init.d)
If SetCPU, Overclock Widget, Android Overclock or QuickClock Advanced Overclock are detected, the script is ignored, so it will not affect them
Awake tweak will speed up the CPU to max speed for 5 secs after waking up to eliminate any lag while unlocking, etc, then it will return to the profiles

    Preset profiles are:
    1.2GHz - 100-85%

Important Notes - Due to how this ROM is setup, a wipe is recommended BEFORE flashing if coming from another ROM(use FORMAT ALL attached)

You must have a custom recovery to flash this ROM

If your are updating, then nothing extra is needed during flashing as the update script wipes what is needed, unless other wise stated in the change log

Be sure to do a backup before flashing and read the change log

    Previous ROM versions

Modems - Zip's must be flashed through a CWM based recovery & Tar's must be flashed through the PHONE option in Odin
