ok I got Q... lol I am running shostock3 v.2.1 and AJK v. 1.6 been messing with this for a little while now when I 1st got it all installed I ran it on default profile but battery life wasnt like I expected after reading everything that everyone was saying so I switched it to the battery profile for about a week it got better with life but seemed laggy at times mainly when I unlocked screen and on some games. I have since went to the rav4kar profile been on that for almost 2 weeks now and its amazing how long this thing can last now and it stays fast at the same time.. sorry for all the boring info but my Q is what benefits are there to upgrading to the newer shostock3? Honestly I am a little afraid to touch it now lol its running so smooth and fast and battery is remarkable just dont wanna mess that up just curious if its worth risking my battery life to update it?

There aren't any life altering changes in SHOtock3 (I'm on 2.5.5 and haven't tried 2.5.9 yet) I say if you're happy with it leave it alone. But there have been major changes in the AJK kernel, and I do recommend updating it.

Last night i was playing a game when my low bat notice came up so i plugged phone in and kept playing. The phone turned off out of the blue. No notice just died. I thought maybe the game just out ran the charger. I waited a bit then tried to boot and got nothing. Left it on charge all night tried again this morning same thing. I cant get into recovery download mode nothing. Some times when i plug charger in the bat pops up on screen for just a second then goes away. Has anyone had this issue? I posted this in the dev section under captivating rom as that is what im using. Have not had any issues before now with rom or phone.if i take it back it is rooted and running custom rom i have no way of access to unroot and restore. Thanks for any help

This happened to me, I was using tango and my phone was actually plugged in too and out of no where died.. Plugged it in another socket, battery kept coming up for a sec then going away, could never get it running again. I even let the phone charge for a hour and then when I touched it the top by the camera was extremely hot so I just thought it was defective. At the time I was running cm10.1.. Now I'm on Shostock.. Luckily I was in my 14 days return at walmart and they just exchanged it for me...

First try download mode. Hold volume down and plug into computer, try this with the battery in and with it out.

You may have overheated it.
Straight Talk has been replacing phones due to this problem read the next few posts here-

In MHO there is a big difference from a sghi777 att and a SGH S959G phone and I think it adds much confusion!

When your opinion goes against fact, keep it to yourself.
FACT- This phone is an i777 with a slightly different bootloader. Nothing else.

My phone shuts down out of the blue, but I just turn it back on by holding the power button :b though it's annoying. But I'm curious though, when you called straight talk and they said they were going to send you a new battery... They told you to port your phone? I was thinking of calling them so I can get a free battery that I can charge my phone with just incase something happens to the current one I have :b but if they're going to ask me to 'port' I don't wanna do it D: lol

The reason i ported my number to a different phone is it will take a week to get battery. i have had disc fusion and am in a work comp case so my attorney has to be able to reach me and i have over 400 contacts and did not want to have to give everyone i talk to regular a new phone number that would only be used for a week or 2. once my s2 is working again i will have the number changed back over.

straight talk was very good about whole thing you have a year warranty thru them i believe so call them and talk to them its worth a shot. it was like 20 days old for me. if i had a house phone and didnt rely on cell i would not have bought cheap phone but had to do what i had to do. if i get it fixed in 14 day time limit i will just return cheap phone and get my money back :D

Am I the only one who's constantly searching for the next best ROM? I'm currently using SHOstock3 and I love it. It seems insatiable lol.

I'm still looking, but it's really hard to live without my sidebar on SHOstock3. If AOSP had multi-window it would be a whole different ball game.

Sent from my SGH-S959G

I actually don't use it that much. What I'm concerned with is battery life and Gps lock speed and if course overall stability. I play ingress. A Gps game. And when my Gps refuses to lock it infuriates me. I like a fully functional ROM. I think I get the best coverage with SHOstock3. I live in a bubble of cell service on top of a mountain. My bedroom is the network hot spot. God must love me or something.

CM10.1 Nightly, AJK Kernel

I've been running the CM10.1 nightlies for about a week now (currently on 3-14 nightly). I just do the OTA updates each morning before I go to work. It's nice having an updated phone and not have to mess with doing any more wipes. I was using the AJK kernel (1.25 and 1.47), but I use my camera heavily and couldn't get the camera brightness settings to work with either AJK kernel so I stopped using it and went back to the stock CM kernel.

My only gripe with CM10.1 was the stock white mms messaging background. I solved that with the : http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1992980

Since most of these ROMS seem to be based on CM, I figured I would just stick with CM to get the fastest updates.

I was actually wondering which nightly those guys were running when their phones burnt out overnight.

As for the camera brightness on ajk, I've never had any problems with it and also use my camera often for work. I work in a polymer coatings lab and have to take pictures of samples to go along with collected data and have had no problem with the quality. Just because your screen is a bit dimmer does not make the actual pictures less bright. I'd suggest playing around with camera settings and take lots of pictures, upload them to your comp, and check out the quality. My work also requires that my phone last over 8 hours with fairly heavy use and the stock cm kernel just doesn't do that for me right now.

Has anyone else ran into the phone dialer being very laggy while using CM10? I have been upgrading the nightlies every morning and it doesn't seem to be making any changes. Also have tried AJK 1.25 and 1.46, no difference either way. When using Pandora or other apps like it and then going to the dialer it almost doesn't work at all. Is there a setting in Stweaks that could possibly fix the issue?

    REMOVING THE YELLOW TRIANGLE

    GINGERBREAD ONLY! (Root Required)
    - Extract the stock zImage from the factory firmware at the top of this page (I used 7zip, and needed to extract it twice to get it apart).
    - Put the stock zImage on the root (not in a folder) of your internal SD card. You can do this through the usb, adb push (adb push- Copy and paste the zImage into your folder with adb, connect your phone with usb, then command- adb push zImage /sdcard/zImage), whatever method you like.
    - Now using adb shell, or terminal emulator found in the market (if you don't' have adb ask GOOGLE) issue the command (capitilazation and spacing matter):

    $ adb shell
    $ su
    # dd if=/sdcard/zImage of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5

This must be done as #, if you have a $ enter command: su
You must already be rooted for this to work. To switch to a different kernel afterwards you can use the same method, or CWM without getting the yellow triangle again or increasing the flash counter. As long as you flash internally, if you use Odin or Heimdall to flash anything thats not stock it will come back.

REMOVING YELLOW TRIANGLE ICS AND ABOVE!
-If running ICS or above you can use triangle away found here- http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?p=22462960

Let me know if this link gets killed and I'll add it to Dev host.

Flashing other versions of CWM with adb (Root Required)
    - Extract the zImage (boot.img) from the ROM of your choice (I use 7zip to extract it).
    - Put the zImage (boot.img) on the root (not in a folder) of your internal SD card. You can do this through the usb, adb push (adb push- Copy and paste the zImage into your folder with adb, connect your phone with usb, then command- adb push zImage /sdcard/zImage), whatever method you like.

If you don't have service after unlocking and switching SIM cards you need to flash an at&t modem like I777UCLL6 found above. Apparently the modem used by Straight Talk only works with their service.

The op needs to be updated with this'd information...

The latest cwm is only for kitkat ROMs, that's cm 11+. Of you want to go with jelly bean ROMs like the one you're trying to use, you need to use cwm 6.0.2.7 it's older but JB won't flash on the newer ones. There are a few different versions but any will work as long add it's philZ, AJK, or 6.0.2.7

Since you already have cwm installed you can just DL the zips and flash them in recovery then reboot "recovery" and it will be complete. No need for Odin now. Try that and get back to us

I think I'm just going to replace CWM with the new TWRP in the op. It seems to be easy more compatible. Plus I like it better.

EDIT: Done. Op updated to install TWRP with Odin to be more compatible.

since this post is in AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777 section...i thought it might be compatible. i even saw a lot of ROM posts where they says its compatible with i777 and sgh s959g....so i was in doubt and had to ask.....glad to know its not compatible...thx....

I thought it was...a lot of the ROMs I search are based on the i777 builds just have to make sure you have the correct radio installed.....I've rooted mine and used several different ROMs just based off of this thread. Searching the thread with the search tool will yield massive results. See post#5 from the OP that's a fairly good clue.

Ok ok ok wait... Let's clear up some confusion. The one and only difference between the 959g and the i777 is that the 959g has its recovery on a separate partition by itself, whereas the i777 has kernel and recovery on the same partition. The 959g can use any ROM or kernel built for the i777 no problem. But if you want a different recovery on 959g you must use one of the zips from the op or Odin. If you had an i777 and you flash a new kernel it will also install a new recovery as it will be packaged in the zip. If you flash the same kernel on the 959g, your kernel will change but recovery remains untouched since it is on a different partition. That is the one and only difference between the two. Happy flashing :D
