How to Flash:

In order for this to work, the HTC Desire S needs to be S-OFF. Flashing the radio with a corrupt file or interrupting the flash, can brick the device, please proceed with caution.

  1. Download the your choice of radio for the HTC Desire S.
  2. Make sure the filename is PG88IMG.zip exactly or it will not work and copy it to the same folder as adb (the /platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder).
  3. Connect the HTC Desire S to the computer via USB.
  4. On the computer, open terminal and run the following commands:
    Code:
    adb push PG88IMG.zip /sdcard/PG88IMG.zip
    adb shell md5sum /sdcard/PG88IMG.zip
NOTE: The md5 should match up the provide the original download location. If not, redownload & try again.
    Code:
    adb reboot bootloader
  5. The HTC Desire S will reboot & usually boot into fastboot. Pressing the Power button will put the device into the bootloader.
  6. The bootloader will scan for the radio update. Once it finds the update, select Yes.
  7. Allow the bootloader to finish flashing the updated radio, and reboot the HTC Desire S normally.

Thanks for putting these in one place, and even though there's a warning about bricking phone's, I would like to warn everyone that flashing a radio is very rarely necessary, and should not be done on a whim!!! Not enough is known about recovering from a bad flash on the NVRam (radio), and if this happens you could end up with a very expensive calculator.

thanks for this, but should i update to the latest or stick with my radio for now? any reviews on the new one using CM7.1 stable? thank in advance.

    Cheers!

    For me:

    Rom: CyanogenMod V7.1.0 stable
Radio: 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20_M - that's suits for me, no battery drain, no signal loss, everything works as it should.
    RIL: HTC-RIL 2.2.0018G (Mar 24 2011) - already in CM - do not change-it.

As I see in your signature you have the same specs, so it's better not to change the radio. Personally used 20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 for a week, but I had 6-10% battery drain every night (exchange active sync, data enable). After switching on 20.48.30.0822U_3822.09.08.20_M battery drain is 1-2% in the same circumstances. For me only notable difference between the two radios were the drain. Hope it helps.
