I connect my Samsung I9082 (in Download mode/Recovery mode) to my computer which is running Vitual box with Ubuntu. Open Nautilus, but I see nothing. It seems Ubuntu cannot communicate with the phone.
The samsung device is checked in Vitual box device menu already.

Any help???

Sorry For not replying, I was out of the town...

I think you don't have samsung or adb drivers installed... If you have, re-download samsung drivers from here: www.samsung.com/ae/support/model/GT-I9082EWAXSG-downloads
If this too doesn't solves your problem I think you haven't written 'sudo nautilus' sudo gives root privilages to the phone... Try it and if it too has problem try Unlock Root which can root your phone easily...

help

This method seems incomplete or just off. Has anyone had success with this method? I am also experiencing my galaxy in download mode but linux doesnt read phone in this state but detects it when phone is turned on. Is there a way to root manually??

I am using backtrack 5r3 in nautilus I am unable to locate data/local...... Plz upload a video or pic so that I could understand it better

cmd.exe crashes on execution

Whenever I attempt to run the cmd.exe program it always crashes first thing I can't even get to the command line which is very frustrating. All that I've been able to do is install the drivers from the adb driver installer program and that's it all that I can do right now. Or do you have a Linux based version of the cmd.exe in a shell script (.sh) type file/program.

Sir, I'm searching guides on how to root ADV manually and now founded one. But I'm confused about the Ubuntu. Do I new to have Ubuntu system running on my PC ?

I could never get the Nautilus part of this to work. I tried on an Ubuntu device, a jump drive, and a virtual box.
If the author is still monitoring this thread, I think a lot of us would appreciate a video tutorial for this. (Or an alternative to using Nautilus altogether).

My phone doesn't connect

My phone (HTC EVO Shift 4G) connects, but, when I get to the step where I have to put it into recovery mode, the cmd goes back to the normal thing, instead of the $, then I also cant do anything with /data/local/tmp because I get the error of it doesn't exist. Thank you, and have a nice day.

Phone detected, but appears offline.

I'm trying this with a ZTE Z830 running 4.4.2, but after installing the drivers, when using the root kit, it appears offline being identified with numbers and letters, I tried several drivers from other pages, even the ones from the phone itself and I can't managed to make it appear online. Any suggestions? ._.

In Ubuntu, you have to have a password to activate sudo. Try Admin Admin, or google gaining SU in ubuntu.

I am trying to root a KF HDX with a newer software. Is there a way to use this exploit without being able to boot into recovery mode?

I tried PMing OP, but PMs don't seem to be working for me. At least, my sent box remains empty after attempting to send messages. Here is my question:

Nautilus can look at any storage media connected to my PC, but the Android device is no typical storage medium. I went through your instructions in Arch Linux and no file manager (including Nautilus) can access any of the contents of the phone unless I am actually in the Android system using MTP. I even resorted to trying it in Ubuntu and had no luck. From my experience with Android, my first thought is that this simply should not work, but your tutorial suggests otherwise.

I've been trying this on an LG G3 because a friend asked a favor which requires me to modify /system/etc/hosts without rooting his phone or installing any custom recovery. He needs to be able to install the stock OTA updates in the future. So I'm not actually using it to root, but the same method should apply to modify any system files, don't you think? I'm stuck with download mode instead of fastboot, but your instructions say either mode should work.

I am stumped. What am I missing? I'd greatly appreciate assistance of any kind.

when i run chmod 644 /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk
Unable to chmod /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk: No such file or directory.

device offline

Device Comes offline when i give a command from rootkit.
i have installed adb and it all works properly except from the rootkit folder

    OK So lets start....

    **What You Need**

    1.Your Unrooted Android Device.
    2.ADB Drivers Installed On Your PC. If you Don't Have Download From Here :

    3. The Most Inportant Root Kit Made By Me (N'ayam Amarsh'e) - Download From The Attachment.
    4.Strength And Courage 'Coz Rooting Voids Your Warranty... If You have a samsung device then Don't Worry Your warranty is gone forever... But if you own any other, maybe you can void it or maybe......

    I've Written Android Device as ADV to make it more easy....

    **Steps**
    So you have the adb drivers installed let's go....

    1. Open The root kit by Extracting The Rootkit with WinRAR....

    2.Turn 'USB DEBUGGING' 'ON' in your ADV...

    3. Connect your ADV to Your PC...

    4.In the root kit Open Cmd.exe File ... [ IF YOU CAN'T OPEN CMD, GOTO C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/ COPY CMD .EXE TO YOUR ROOTKIT FOLDER]

    5. In CMD window Type the following command...

    Code: 
    ->adb devices       *Your device will get listed in the window if it doesn't check your adb drivers or if you have followed the steps properly...
->adb push busybox /data/local/tmp 

->adb push su /data/local/tmp 

->adb push Superuser.apk /data/local/tmp
    If you Succeed Move On ...

    6.Then You need Root Shell Type :

    Code: 
    adb shell
    Note that you see a "$" sign in the command prompt. That means you are not in 'su' shell.

    7.Next run the following commands in the shell to change permissions and get some limited privileges for the Superuser files:

    ->chmod 6755 /data/local/tmp/su 

->chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/busybox 

->chmod 644 /data/local/tmp/Superuser.apk
    {Note}The names of the files are case sensitive!

    8.Done ? Now You need to open a copy of linux which has nautilus... So enter your linux (I recommend using ubuntu 11.4) and type in the terminal (ctrl+alt+T)

    this will open nautilus with root privileges...

    Many Users Are Having Problem with This Method, If you can't do the method 1. Try Method 2.


    METHOD 2
    PLEASE DON'T ASK ME ABOUT THIS METHOD, THIS IS JUST FOR A TRY, MY BROTHER FOUND THIS METHOD TO BE WORKING, I HAVEN'T TRIED IT YET!

    This is linux based method, It's quite easy if you follow every step correctly...

    You need to download psneuter, https://github.com/tmzt/g2root-kmod/tree/master/scotty2/psneuter


    When you have it execute the following...


    Code: 
    adb devices

    Code: 
    adb push psneuter /data/local/tmp
    This will copy the file to your device and now we'll execute it..

    Code: 
    adb shell

cd /data/local/tmp

chmod 777 psneuter

./psneuter

    Now You'll see

    Code: 
    adb kill-server
adb devices
adb shell
    now # will appear in place of $, or after typing $su.

    Code: 
    # mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/block/st19/system
# exit
$ adb push busybox /system/bin
$ adb push su /system/bin
$ adb install Superuser.apk
$ adb shell
# chmod 4755 /system/bin/busybox
# chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
# mount -o remount,ro -t rfs /dev/block/st19/system
# exit
$ adb reboot
    Now your device will reboot and you can see SuperUser App in your app drawer...

    I am about to try this on a Telstra T-Hub 2. If it works, I'll seriously buy you a beer. I've tried 4 other root methods and they don't work. Everything so far has been successful, just about to try the Linux part. I absolutely don't mind downloading Ubuntu if I can get this thing rooted.

    EDIT: So yeah I am stuck on the Ubuntu part because I can't seem to get this device to go to Download Mode. Only one other person on the entire forum has said there is a download mode, but I am not sure if he was confused with 'Android System Recovery 3e' because it's not the same thing. Because I can't get the device in Download Mode, I can't mount the device to Ubuntu and then follow the last few steps...

    If anyone has any ideas please advise. As it stands I've tried every button combination I can think of. So far it's:

    Volume - & Power to boot to the dead Android screen.
    Then Power & Volume + to boot into recovery. But there doesn't seem to be a way to root ICS 4.04 from just that.
    I've tried every other combination of buttons to get to actual 'Download Mode' but I don't think this device even comes with one.

    EDIT AGAIN:

    I am now convinced after reading this thread again that it is impossible to get this method to work. The OP doesn't provide any sort of proof that this method works, or any pictures at all.
    I also feel like it is impossible to get Nautilus to see the device's root directory '/' simply by just booting the phone into download or recovery mode. As it doesn't mount the device's partition on recovery mode, and on download mode Linux still cannot see the device. (I just tried with 2 of my Samsung phones).

    This is a broken method that absolutely does not work.     A bunch of people all have the same issue and the OP instead replies weeks later saying that he has dropped support for this thread' and to PM him.

    Guys don't bother wasting your time with this method. When it comes time to use Linux or something else, that can transfer the files to /system/xbin or /system/bin you can't do it because it's read-only. The '/' root partition isn't visible on Linux no matter what, and it's impossible to open up a folder browser with root privileges that can see that partition so you can move the files.

    Try other methods, and forget this stupid thread.. I am using a device that seems to have no real root method, but I have listed a lot of methods that I have tried on in this thread. You can google some:

    So I won't be able to tell you about 2nd Method, but Many Users have really benefitted from these methods...
