Okay, first thing's first, I'm a noob, and I've just watched the very humbling video to prepare me
I've sifted through this entire thread, trying to keep as much of the relevant info in my frontal lobe as possible, but among other issues (like trying to learn everything in a couple hours from abject ignorance), I'm getting mired in semantics, I think. I managed to root my Star Note n9000 quite successfully and without issue using the MtkDroidTools app. Splendid, but imagine my dismay as I entered into this thread and discovered that there may be no hope for me to get the best parts of root access for the phone I've got. Or... have I?
So, question #1: I understand that this "model" of phone seems to have a myriad of submodels, built from a variety of parts and requiring unique firmware for every variation. I also found the current known list of those models, and, to my surprise, found that my model wasn't one of them (it's quite similar, but not an exact match):
Model Number
e1809L_v75_gq1008_ov5647_v20
Basehand Version
MAUI.11AMD.W12.22.SP.V8.P2,
2012/09/04 15:08
Kernel Version
3.0.13
Thu Apr 25 11:15:14 CST 2013
...So, what gives? Is this truly a unique model, or am I misunderstanding?
Question #2: I know from my limited research that what I really want is a modified ROM and preferably one that uses a newer version of Android than the one already on my phone (4.0.4). What I don't know is how the term ROM is or isn't interchangeable with the term "firmware" in this thread. In fact, firmware is the term most often mentioned here, particularly in that it is uniquely fit for the specific submodel of phone in question. So, are the terms used interchangeably here, meaning I need a ROM that satisfies very specific requirements for my specific model, or am I looking for something more general? Is there any hope at all in upgrading this thing?
Thanks for any help in advance.
