hey the download page with the faq, instructions and all other links at the top doesnt allow me to open anything, i click it and it shows in the browser that ive been directed to the page but nothing new appears, where do i find the fix for the black recovery screen and force close on superuser?

Rooted and Running CyanogenMod7-RC2

This is my first droid, first root and now my Inspire is running CyanogenMod7-RC2.
For 10 days and no knowledge of what I was doing I owe a debt of gratitude to all who helped me on my way. Thank you.

The key was reading the entire thread before attempting anything - at least for me, and then asking for help after doing more research first.

And very special thanks to Bubby who took time to help a newbie and to ClearD for helping me iron out the last few kinks.

I created the card, but the creation process threw an error while creating the gold card. Any ideas?

Go to market and update ROM Manager to the latest version. If that doesn't help then refered to post 1744 on page 175 and downlod the rom bubby posted, it should fix your SU woes.

I did this yesterday. I read all 190+ pages of this thread, and cursed my way through, but I'm all set to go.

Thanks, Bubby!

Hmm. I've started installing but the process is hung up on my Inspire. The command prompt has me on the step after "Forked #### childs", the terminal closed, but the device won't let me re-open my terminal. The phone's running really slowly as well.

Am I safe to somehow reboot the phone and start the process again? Not sure what went wrong. Just trying to avoid a brick here. Any help is appreciated!

Please please please help me, as a newbie I really wanted to attempt to do this and have seemingly done everything as steps suggested, but now my phone doesn't have the ability to make or receive calls, it's showing no network coverage. I really need my phone in case the kids need me, any help or advice would be appreciated:confused:

It worked!

First off I wanted to thank everyone for the tool and this thread.

The Inspire is my first Android phone and it's taken a lot of reading to even start to understand what people are even talking about.

It took me several tries, but I finally got s-off and root yesterday. It would help if the prompts on the screen reminded people to put the phone in charge only mode. Since you have to mount the SD card to do the gold card, it would help to tell people to change to charge only. With over 200 pages in this thread, that one is easy to miss.

I tried to use the remove bloatware function and it error with a message about the file system being read-only.

Using the Market, I just updated Rom Manager and Superuser and installed Titanium Backup. Titanium Backup had me change some settings and update BusyBox. Things are looking good now. It appears I can remove the bloatware with Titanium Backup and keep the stock ROM.

For people like me that are new to Android, I'd recommend that you install Advanced Task Killer. It's a good way to close processes to keep the memory in decent shape and prevent a bunch of stuff from runninng down your battery.

You should be perfectly safe restarting the process, yes.

I would but i cant get it in to Bootloader.

I power down while is doing that i hold power+vol down

Try using "Restart" instead of powering down and back on, while holding volume down the whole time.

Try flashing this stock rooted ROM to solve that problem.

I HIGHLY recommend NOT using Advanced Task Killer (or ANY task manager app, for that matter). I had previously used it for long periods of time, but it has a horrible bug that has yet to be fixed (across many devices running Froyo, including ours), which will cause you to lose ALL of your SMS and MMS messages randomly and without warning. You should also read this article ;)

Okay, so I've managed to get into the rom part, but it says my ID is bad or something (bad goldcard I'm sure). So now that I can see it's hard as hell to brick this device (yay!), i'm trying again. Unfortunately, the SimpleGoldCard application cannot see my device on MMC2 this time, but it worked earlier. Any ideas? Yes...I have Sense drivers installed :)

Some like to see things visually. Nothing wrong with that is there.

Yeah, there absolutely is. Over time, the hack kit has been updated and improved, and the Sesame Street videos can't keep up.

Reading is fundamental. If someone is not inclined to read a few simple directions, then I'd rather they didn't use my stuff and just keep watching mTV and doing whatever else illiterate tweakers do. It pisses me off when I take the time to document a relatively simple process and the small number of people can't be bothered to read and make the most noise want to be hand held.

The majority of people who manage to get thru the process all by themselves with a minimum of research understand exactly what I am talking about. The hack kit has been downloaded about 40K times now. There is no way it could be as successful as it's been if the majority of people using it didn't take some initiative themselves.

oh hell yea!! thanks man I'll be on the look out!! I had truely just given up.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH CWM RECOVERY FADING TO BLACK AFTER THE HTC SCREEN FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW TO FIX PROBLEM.

I am going to assume a couple of things.
    * You are on Windows
    * You have S-Off and you have root (confirm otherwise this will not work)
    * You have the Hack Kit installed. IF YOU DO NOT, download it here...http://droid.neolobster.com/roms/ace-hack-kit-v9.tar.gz

    - Make sure you turn off your antivirus software
    - Make sure on your phone Fastboot unchecked, USB Debugging checked, Charge Only
    - Connect your phone to computer via USB cable
    - Open a CMD window (as administrator) Start button, type CMD in search box, right-click on CMD and click on Run As Administrator
    - go to the directory where you unzipped the Hack Kit
    - in the CMD window type "hackerize-ace install-downgrade", you will see a message that ROM is being pushed to SD card, it'll take a little while. (do not close CMD window)
    - After pushing ROM your phone should reboot automatically and you may see your computer installing driver files (don't worry if it does not successfully install all drivers).
    - At the FASTBOOT USB menu press power. Your phone will search for the downgrade rom and start loading PD98IMG.zip file (blue progress bar on right, be patient).
    - Confirm Start Update
    - Then reboot
    - Go through the Setup on your phone, check to make sure Fastboot unchecked, USB Debugging on and Charge Only
    - Go back to the CMD window and type "hackerize-ace rage" (do not close CMD window)
    - Start Visionary program on the phone
    - Click Temp Root Now, then try Perm Root (it'll say rooting device), allow superuser.
    - Your phone should reboot
    - Start ROM manager and Flash Clockwork Recover (3.0.0.6 is fine)
    - Back to the CMD window and type "tools\win\adb reboot recovery"
    - It should reboot your phone into Recovery Mode. For the time being reboot your phone and just check the fastboot unchecked, usb debugging checked and charge only settings.
    - Go back to the CMD window and type "hackerize-ace setup-radio", "hackerize-ace flash-radio" which will reboot the phone into Fastboot mode. Press power to start the process.
    - Reboot phone
    - Go to the CMD window and type "hackerize-ace clean" (removes zip file from sd card).
    - You won't have any sound until you install a ROM. I would suggest you start with CM7.
    - Download http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=ace (I'm currently using cm_ace_full-30.zip without any issues) and copy the file to the root of your SD Card.
    - Turn off your phone to boot into ClockworkMod Recovery. Hold Vol-Down and press power, hold Vol-Down until Fastboot menu, press power to enter HBOOT mode (let it do its check), Vol-Down to select Recovery and press power, phone will boot into ClockworkMod Recovery.
    -
    - First wipe your data/factory reset, then wipe cache partition.
    - Now you can install the CM7 Rom. Use Volume keys to select "Install zip from sdcard", press Power, Vol keys to select "choose zip from sdcard", press power, Vol keys to select cm_ace....zip(or any other ROM you download).
    - After you install CM7 you may also want to install Google Apps. Download the following file and repeat the "Install zip from sdcard" process above.

    Good Luck!
