It seems like the the MetroApp doesn't always work, try to replace the contents in the ModernUI_App folder with the contents of the archive of my post.
Thanks for your advice but I just got texted by a french guy and he showed me how it works with devices who are not set to the english language:
Just open the runExploit.bat and replace this line:
"icacls %temp%\temp.rthack /grant "ALL APPLICATION PACKAGES":RW"
with that:
"icacls %temp%\temp.rthack /grant *S-1-15-2-1:RW"
Heres his site where he has the .bat all set up: http://www.windows8facile.fr/surface-jailbreak-de-la-tablette/
Worked beautifully on my RT! Gonna try to load up Win98 on it under Bochs right now...
In terms of System Specs, full Win 8 expects way more than 98 does hardware-wise :U Very optimistically, the newest win version the RT could propably run well in Bochs is XP Tablet Edition.
Also as it turns out Bochs is somewhat more complicated than Virtualbox or Virtual PC... Couldn't get it to work.
No worky for me, tried and it didn't work. Rebooted and tried again after leaving on desktop for minute or so, didn't work, gets stuck on press volume down, and pressing and/or holding it doesn't do anything. Went into settings and did latest updates, restarted, left in desktop for a couple minutes and still gets stuck on press volume down. It shows the volume going down, the button isn't broken, but the program isn't responding. Also tried volume down on external wireless keyboard and still nothing.
this is on a surface yes? other Windows RT devices may handle the volume down signal differently which would warrant more exploration
eg
does it need the sdk/wdk secure boot policy
maybe a way to turn the debugger into a protected process so it can access another protected process (csrss)
Personally I hope it isnt too easy to set up, as then only those who really need it and know how to do it (and the consequences) will use it, and there will be less chance of MS closing it off further
The only responses I got to the query "8.1" said it wouldn't work. No mention of possible updates so it would. To repeat my question: Is such a thing possible?
