Kies is the worst and the most buggy software out there. I never never use it, only this kind of situation, like official update (if don't want to wait OTA update)...otherwise, i don't even open it...

Mr. Robinson already released a pre-rooted one... Go for it and do it via Odin... Worked like a charm for me

good question (#1), tell you the truth I did not even realized until I read your post and realized I am also running custom recovery on my S3, but my upgrade already started....Kies still working on it, not sure what the heck is going on though..my S3 is now screen is black and red light...must be doing something..

Can I update from a custom ROM?

I'm running a custom ROM. Will that affect things if I plug my phone in and update via KIES?

so if we go that route, all our apps, data will be there untouched, right??

Got mine update. OTA root keeper didn't keep the root

. Other than that the install went smoothly.

I does the recovery install and I notice that the counter's not there so I does the third step alternate with android terminal emulator

download the touch recovery and put it in the internal sd... I notice that in the guide from mr. Robinson is not updated. If any of you are going to do it try this (just with touch recovery in this case)

With android terminal emulator type:

shell@android:/ $ su
shell@android:/ # dd if=/sdcard/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.1.4-d2att.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
14004+0 records in
14004+0 records out
7170048 bytes transferred in 1.430 secs (5014019 bytes/sec)
shell@android:/ #

shell@android:/ # reboot recovery

And there you go!

I just don't get it. An ATT service rep told me THIS MORNING that the update wasn't coming until the first week of January.

Oh well, I'm sure we all have it now and that is awesome. Now to go see what you can do in it. Heh.

They could mean OTA, but officially through KIES, it's available now.

Oh I'm well aware and updated already thanks to you guys.

Having data connection issues, but I'll reboot and hopefully fix those. It's much different than ICS. Wow.

I can confirm you need 50% of battery to start the process....was at 49% and tried sneaking it through. #nobodygetsthroughkies

LOL. I was at 64% and it installed fine. In fact, I had 67 when it was done.

Update complete! Seems to be running quite smoothly. No HUGE differences, but a keen eye will notice the subtle changes
