Ok so I wanted to post this for anyone who ends up in this post with the same problem as the op and i had while trying to root the device. What i noticed is that the part of the superguide that is supposed to help you get perm root. the last step that says to now flash a rom and kernel is definatly important. I believe even if you want to stay with stock you will just have to flash stock rom and kernel. I went ahead and just went with a custom rom and kernel but to each there own. just wanted to let people know that the flash a rom and kernel are indeed essential.
4) Perm-Root your device (Thanks to WildChild)
- Turn off your phone, turn it back on my holding power + volume down
- Use the volume rocker and power button to select fastboot
- Connect your phone to your PC
- Inside the WCXJB ROOT PACK, click shift + right click and select "Open command window here"
- Enter in these commands without the quotes
- "fastboot flash recovery wcxrecovery.img"
- You are now rooted and you NEED to flash a matching kernel + ROM for root to stick
