Hmm, you wouldn't happen to know where I could find a custom bootloader do you? That doesn't really make any sense that they would allow you to flash a bootloader but not a recovery.
Has anyone tried to clear the security flag after unlocking this way?

My bad, I typed the wrong word. Imeant custom recovery. Though I believe a custom hboot is possible.

It sounds like there still may be some conflicting security settings if some people are able to flash custom recoveries and others aren't. It's possible that those who can had S-OFF before, but having an "unlocked" bootloader, that lets you flash stuff, on top of S-ON(security enabled) is almost like a bad joke. From what people have described happening when they try to use a custom recovery it sounds like it could be rejecting it because it's not signed, if you were to flash a custom bootloader and it decides to reject it you're stuck with a brick.
Sort of like a zoo keeper unlocking the gate and allowing people into a lion's den without putting the lions up, it's not a good situation. This is all speculation of course since I have no idea what all "unlocked" means but if true HTC just made these phone 1000 times easier to brick.
I'm gonna wait, they ask for your code so they can log that your device was unlocked when they need to repair it.

But if you already have root, there's no reason to do this, correct? It's not like I'll be taking OTA's, I'm using a custom rom. Am I being dumb?
Yes because so far, no one has confirmed if the HBOOT 1.50 is unlockable with revolutionary

I didn't think so. But just to be sure, I am about to relock and unroot and test it out on the HBOOT 1.50. If revolutionary is unsuccessful, I am going to write a guide on how to unlock on HBOOT 1.50
According to a sensation user, it's not impossible to have HTC's method and be S-off. I don't know if you need S-off before using HTC's method or if there is a way to get S-off after unlocking via HTC. The **** UNLOCKED **** thing is new from HTC's method and it's S-off. We just need to know how it actually works or what it does.
In the sensation forums. I was hoping they'd be farther along on how it works since they've had it for a few more days than evo 3d users have. It's from here.
Ok I think I've reached a point where I feel comfortable enough to try this. So I don't have remove the bin.img before flashing the ROM through clockwork. Then just go fastboot, CD (change directory for anyone who googles this) to where the bin is on windows and then usethe command prompt to run that command.
As far as the files and drivers you mentioned, anyone who followed that guide should have everything installed already, correct? And by nandroid, you mean a system backup, which can be done with clockwork.
Edit: so what did bandas mean when he said you can flash a boot.img with recovery if you boot with fastboot? that's what I meant by the SU thing

Am I reading correctly, a HTC unlock can flash kernels via fastboot? This is mainly what is missing from there unlock method, besides splash images, correct?
My replacement phone should be here tomorrow, I am worried about getting 1.50 hboot. But if kernels will flash with fastboot than I can live with that lame splash screen, lol.

adb push twrp-1.1.1-recovery.img
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery TWRP-1.1.1-recovery.img
fastboot boot TWRP-1.1.1-recovery.img
adb push <rom name>.zip /sdcard/
adb push <kernel name>.zip /sdcard/
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot TWRP-1.1.1-recovery.img
It allows you to use custom rom via recovery but wont allow overclock-able kernels to overclock the cpu stays at stock settings.
