yes, ignore the dll and use PDA to load the md5 file just like normal.

Thanks for you continued answers and patience! Much appreciated.

It's flashed and booting into the OS now -- it says Android is upgrading...

Now I'm going to do the stuff you said originally -- with the CASUAL jar to root/unlock/flash, right?

Huh -- when it finished it gave me a "Switching to global mode" and now it's downloading a software update... what's going on?!

done.
Next problem... I'm following the instructions for Casual VZW S3 Toolkit 1-Click jar... it says to enable usb debugging (done) then to put the phone in MTP mode for usb (done) then to root your phone with the root option...

But the program says the phone is disconnected... so I can't do anything.

before you run the tool, when you connected the phone to your pc, you should see the notification for MTP on your phone right?
EDIT: You probably don't have MTP driver in your PC. Download the driver here http://www.mediafire.com/download/sb...r_v1_4_6_0.exe and install first then connect your phone. The tool should show "connected"

I think I was still missing the drivers... I somehow got them to install, so it seems to be working now -- I'll try to unlock the bootloader and flash custom recovery next.

Several headaches later:

TWRP is installed. I think I was able to use it to fix my SDcard.
Now I'm transferring Gummy (1-6-2014) and the 4.4 gapps to my SDcard.

My next move should be to boot to TWRP, do a factory reset as they advise, then install Gummy from the SDcard, right?

Ok, this didn't work.

Installing Gummy failed for some reason I didn't understand and now I have no OS.

E:Error executing updater binary in zip `/external...
Error flashing zip `/external_sd/Gummy-2.1-01-06...

I'm getting this same error when I try to flash a ROM .. I can't figure it out, luckily I have a backup.. I'm guessing you didn't make one before you wiped everything ?

Are you both on TWRP 2.6.3.1?

I am now. And it fixed my issues. It wasn't exactly broadcasted anywhere and the methods I was using to get my phone up to date with custom recovery and such put a max of TWRP 2.6.0.0 on my phone. I had to go find the VZW TWRP 2.6.3.1 and flash it with Odin to get passed the error.

Thanks to everyone in this thread (and the Gummy thread), my phone is recovered and running Gummy Nightly 1-6-14.

Thank you so much.
