NFC works with India-Chennai MRTS card

NFC works with Chennai (India) MRTS railway smart card.
Since railways is owned by National Govt, theoretically it should work with other Railway cards as well.
Please find the attached screenshot taken from NC Tag info app...

Melbourne Australia's public transport Myki cards can be read.

Would be great if I could extract the info to my phone and use it with an emulator for those drunken Friday afternoons when I leave my Myki at work. :good:

Presenting my phone to a ticket inspector instead of my card would be gold.

It gets updated when you purchased something. The card will only store user identification. Even if it did have points information, they will likely be encrypted anyway.

Hacking a rewards card is probably not a good discussion to have on xda, but depending on the scale of their rewards program the points value could be stored on the card and updated by the computer at purchase. Even if it is encrypted you could record the value and actual value each time you buy something and determine the method of encryption.

Only Cards with a RFID chip can be read so most U.S. Cards cannot be read.

Credit cards used to use a single code when the chips came out, but now they randomly read/generate/write a new code every time you pay. From a techy banker's mouth.

In theory, newer DC metro smart cards are readable but the older ones aren't. (In practice, the ones we have aren't scannable so I can't be sure.) When the proprietary vendor went under there was a bunch of noise about not using open standards for the system - the thing is, the project was started 6 years before there was a standard. The scanners they use put in can read standard cards, and the replacement cards are supposed to be standard NFC. (Proprietary encoding/software still, but standard cards.)

All it uses is the "UID" stored in the first 2 pages of the NFC. It's a waste really. I've just went in, grabbed one, registered, get my free polar pop for registering, and format the card. lol. The first 2 pages are factory locked. Found one in the parking lot that had 5 points already on it, so i use that one.

Cheers for the Australian references. Am thinking about upgrading my galaxy s2 (no NFC) in the near future to something that has NFC.

I've noticed that a lot of people are looking for things to do with their NFC enabled phone and there isn't much information out there, so I thought I would make a list of things that you can scan. How do you find nfc scanable stuff?

Sent from my GT-I5700 using Tapatalk 2

I'm guessing touching your phone to everything you suspect of being scannable.

Just out of curiosity: if I were to create a database where everybody could read and add new tags, would you use it?

You all have done a great work already, but I was thinking of doing something more, which means adding the type of NFC tag, the location and other useful info (like keys, notes, and so on), so that everybody can look up on the database using the filters they need.

Would you like me to work on it :)?

yes, the antenna is located within the battery. The actual NFC chip is located within the actual device it self.... that's how it works
