Holics-ROM 0.2 HTC Wi-Fi Hotspot Resolved
Included in this ROM is Google's WiFi Tethering App but if you'd like to use the built-in Wi-Fi Hotspot from HTC, it does not work unless you make a few tweaks. I noted that I could connect to the Wifi Hotspot with my laptop but that no connection to the internet was available. These steps below seemed to do the trick. As usual, use at your own risk.
1. On your phone install SQLite Editor ($2.99 from the market).
2. Run SQLite Editor and allow root access (with SU).
3. Select "Dialer Storage".
4. Select "telephony.db".
5. Select "carriers".
6. Locate the "AT&T US Tether" row.
7. In the "apn" column, change "broadband" to "pta".
8. Exit SQLite Editor.
9. Reboot and it should work.
On your laptop or other wireless device, you may need to remove the Vivid Hotspot from your list of wireless network connections before reconnecting.
FYI, here are the conditions that I've tried successfully all on AT&T.
1) HBOOT 1.85.0024 / Holics-ROM 0.2 / Kernel 04-30 (with matching bcmdhd.ko)
2) HBOOT 1.85.0025 / Holics-ROM 0.2 / Kernel 05-03 (with matching bcmdhd.ko)
I believe changing this from broadband to pta established the connection between phone and internet. Sometimes it takes about 30 seconds before the hotspot becomes active.
Hopefully, you will find this useful and if it works for you, just hit "Thanks" to let me know.
