I downloaded the latest twrp
twrp-2.8.7.0-jfltexx.img
and used
tar-Tool_Odin3-v3.07_by_mkh.mourad
to create .tar.md5 file that you should be able to flash.

Realized after a while that you must first
rename your *.img to recovery.img (cell phone refuses it if it is not named like this)
then use tar-Tool_Odin3-v3.07_by_mkh.mourad
and when you have created recovery.tar.md5
do NOT rename it because odin will refuse it

you can easily download .tar.md5 file or .tar file from twrp.me devices page. It has recovery.img packed inside it

1. Download odin 3.07 ( you have option NAND ERAS ALL )
2. Download MH8 ( If you are with knox ), / MF8 ( NON KNOX BOOT )
3. Download PIT
4. Odin - check NAND, PIT file, PDA AND START
5. After flash your phone wont boot ( stuck at samsung Logo )
6. Boot in recovery ( volume up )( original recovery )
7. Factory reset + format cache.
8. Will reboot automatically the phone
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
For me, it doesn´t work. I used the pit file, but not the MH8 file. He pass for the Samung logo, but was stuck (has you said) there. But when I did the 6 step, all problems start all over. =(

Did you try just flashing the stock ROM from sammobile.com without the pit file? The pit file isn't required if Odin can properly read the partition information from the phone.

I will try.

I tried to wipe both (data/factory + cache) = not
I tried to wipe just data/factory = not
I tried to wipe cache = deprecated.

Now I am flashing again, but without auto reboot marked. And I will try to do the wipes.
And then, I will try without pit file, because the ROM is from SamMobile.

In Odin, uncheck everything except f.reset time. When you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove the usb cable from the phone, remove the battery, wait 5 seconds, replace battery, boot directly to recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and reboot.

Which phone do you have? Which bootloader? Did you get the ROM from sammobile.com?

I had similar problem on SGS3-9300 where Odin quit soon with:
<ID:0/006> Added!!
<ID:0/006> Odin engine v(ID:3.1005)..
<ID:0/006> File analysis..
<ID:0/006> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/006> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)

Sometimes it got further:
...
<ID:0/006> Initialization..
<ID:0/006> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/006> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/006> SingleDownload.
<ID:0/006> recovery.img

but then Windows hung and I have to reboot. I never see a progress bar on the phone. I used Samsung USB drivers, no KIES. I tested many different Odin versions on 2 different PC with XP-SP3. On the second one after about 10 trials and some reboots the Odin wonderfully flashed image OK. I tried more times and it worked again but after I decide to reboot Windows and try again it failed and I was unable to reproduce successful flash. I didn't change USB cable.
Then I tried Heimdall for Windows and it didn't work too - hanged at 0%. But Heimdall for Linux works fine under my Debian Linux, I tried more times and it was done within few secons.
So for those with similar problems try Heimdall for Linux (you can probably use some live CD)...

Same problem with me

thanks

Ok for those getting the following error using Odin,

<ID:0/004> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/004> Initialzation..
<ID:0/004> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/004> Removed!!
<ID:0/004> There is no PIT partition.

I was getting the same errors whenever I tried to flash anything and couldn't figure out why. Now I seem to have sorted it.

Try this.

DO NOT HAVE ODIN OPEN YET

Stop KIES on your PC if it is on.

1) Put your phone into Download mode, (Home, Vol Down, Power at same time).

2) Connect your USB to PC/Laptop and phone.

3) Press UP on your phone.

4) now, open ODIN. <---only open AFTER your have pressed UP on your phone. COM and "Added" should be showing.

5) Flash what you need to flash.

(I noticed previously when I had Odin open, then pressed UP, it would show as "Added" and a Com would show, but I would ALWAYS get the Pit error and a Red FAIL)

I have now tried this method several times on the trot, flashed CWM with success, (where as it was always failing previously), and re-flashed other ROMS with success each time.

Hope this helps others.

Cheers i was sweating after odin failed twrp and i was stuck on download, much props good sir

Hi guys, had the same issue here - used odin 3.13 and I couldn't get it to install properly.

The trick is to install your custom ROM using v1.85! Just use Odin v1.85 and any "good" usb cable and you will be fine. I used a 3rd party USB cable to do my installation.

If you're having problems check the thread here: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2266336
It's the same method I used to root my phone and flash TWRP. (I too have write protection enabled)

I came to same issue and Odin was not able to flash it i had no kies and no drivers issue and then i used original cable and guess what that was the main issue

What worked for me is CHANGING cable

Any one having similar issue can ...

Change the cable or USB port / restart and it will work for sure

(I still can NOT get into recovery using power+home+UP)

Try using just the Vol Up+Power. Once the phone vibrates, let go of the power but keep holding the up key until you see something appear on the screen. That works on my non-rooted phone to get into recovery.
