It was the raised BUS (called INT in the kernel code) speed, myself and Enigma were just talking about this and we believe it is the codec that plays those files using some kind of hardware clock and by raising it, screws up some memory or something that is making the device reboot.

I didn't have the issue with your kernel only with morifics which is kind of strange now that I think of it lol

I even specifically remember morific saying he did this same thing as well so that explains a lot

Ya, they did it first then I gave it a try on the 8th I think it was which was the first release that people started saying it.

Now I wonder how it is that two kernels with the same issue don't cause the same problem on the same device. I'm actually rather confused because I can go watch YouTube right now on your 4/13 kernel.....

Ktoonsez kernel has higher bus speeds than Trinity, to help support the higher GPU and RAM speeds. If it works for some at the higher (333) speeds but no one at the 300 MHz speeds in both kernels, it has me wondering if *maybe* we can go even higher and work back into a fully usable range of bus frequencies while still being in faster speeds.

It happens to me watching videos through the aosp browser but not Firefox. I think its a software issue, codec/driver.

I am on Trinity

Feel free to slap me if I'm way off base with this… wouldn't the various Android device manufacturers, using different chipsets ultimately have different bus speeds, thus making the codec not able to work with all those different devices?

Yes and morific has not changed his speed back down to default right? So you'll still have the issue. Like I said earlier only Trinity had this issue for me but for others both did ktoon has now fixed the issue so I'm not sure what your point was then since I directed you to the part that States what the problem was.

My best guess is that there is a register somewhere that specifies the max BUS speed and uses that to determine it.

Thanks for confirming its at least ROM related. PA does a lot of cool stuff to make the tablet more useful. I havent found it to be overly slow at all so performance isnt an issue. Also this is the first part of ANY program I have had a problem with while using PA. No other rom has the features PA has so switching really isnt an option for me. :(

If its not to much work for someone to help me investigate this problem it would be great. If not that sucks but I can deal with it since its only 1 field in Ktweaker. The rest of the program still works.

I just thought maybe KT could give me something to try or test to solve my issue. I'd rather not be told just change your rom and dont worry about it. (I do understand your reasoning but dont agree that PA is a bad rom).

I do appreciate the work both you and KT do so please dont think I'm just being a d*ck ...

Try installing busy box from the play store then flashing the kernel :)

^^^^ While good advice and it may work, Paranoid Android uses some seriously modified stuff in its ROM. Which is why I think that is the issue in the first place. If you install a new version of busybox, or the official public one from the play store, it may cause other problems in the ROM. So just be aware that if you attempt this that you may cause other issues with PA features.

The reason I talk about performance issues is because Paranoid Android has huge amount of input lag compared to other ROMs. Most people do not notice this at all, but if you play a game that relies on quick reflexes and exact control you will notice the problem right away. Additionally many users have reported getting about half the FPS in Paranoid Android than other ROMs give. To me this is unacceptable performance so I no longer run the ROM, despite nice features. These features are what cause this performance drop because of how modified the system is to allow these sorts of things. And then on top of that you throw kernel incompatibilities into the mix and I just cant recommend that the ROM be used at all. There is obviously nothing wrong on the kernel's end of things because there are over 1,000 users who dont have this crashing issue.

Thanks for the credit :) But lets not take anything away from the amazing with Ktoonsez does. I really dont do anything on the kernel at all and everything put into it is Ktoonsez doing. I just like to post my settings since they are requested so much (over 200 users!), toss new ideas around, and help other users having issues. All the real stuff is done by ktoonsez.

Thanks for the idea iamikon. I have tried other versions of busybox and even deliberately installed it wrong to see if it would cause other issues with Ktweaker but cant get it to change its behaviour at all.

Catlog says java.lang.runtimeexception: unable to start activity componentinfo{com.ktoonsez.ktweakert.gpugovtable}: java.lang.arrayindexoutofboundsexception: length=1; index=1

With an error like that maybe it isnt busybox causing the issue with the kernel but something else. I would help by trying to install PA, but I have more testing to do for a few more days before I change ROMs again. Then I promised Sentinel I would help with something in his ROM first.


Did you update to this kernel and app version from an older version of the kernel and/or app? Or fresh install from never having used it before on this ROM install?
And if you used another kernel prior to this but since you installed your ROM last, was it Franco, Trinity, or stock PA kernel?

Then I would reflash PA and kernel or just move onto another ROM. There's several with pie and a couple with hybrid mode so and as enigma said the performance isn't worth the trouble of all the bugs and instability.

    2. Stock values are cpu_start_throttle = 80, cpu_stop_throttle = 78, mem_start_throttle = 85, cpu_stop_throttle = 80
    3. Start values should always be higher than stop values by at least 1
    4. I have a hard coded limit of 50-90 (probably as high as anyone wants to go, I set mine at cpu_start_throttle = 85, cpu_stop_throttle = 83 to test and saw temps of 108 for over 1 second a few times running benchmark apps)
    5. You can also get the current temperature from the "cur_temp" file (I will add this and the adjustments to KTweaker as soon as I can)
