Every app opens in side stage. Anyone else can confirm? I'm probing.

Its like they're in a phone view/mode rather than tablet.

That's what side stage is. To open certain apps in tablet mode. Open them through the terminal with root permission.

Code:
sudo ubuntu-filemanager-app

I have successfully recompiled the camera-app on the touchpad.. notes...

login to touchpad
apt-get install ubuntu-sdk
apt-get install cmake cmake-curses-gui cmake-data
apt-get clean
apt-get autoclean
apt-get install build-essential
apt-get install libusermetricsinput*

for desktop ubuntu and QTTest.. apt-get install qt5directive* seems to do it

untar your source
go to the folder
cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX:PATH=/usr . && make all install

archive it?
find /data/ubuntu -type f -name "*camera-app*" -exec tar -rf archive.tar '{}' \;

Mess with camera-app time!

You may have to run apt-get clean and apt-get autoclean to free up some space to fully install the sdk or build-essential package.. Only install 3 cmake packages? Should be 16MB?
Source code to the camera-app
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+source/camera-app
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+...02.orig.tar.gz

When I run the camera-app as phablet:

[email protected]:~$ camera-app
__pthread_gettid -2
loaded the dummy plugin
loaded the Linux plugin
Registered the AalSensorPlugin types

Module 'CameraApp' does not contain a module identifier directive - it cannot be protected from external registrations.
file:///usr/local/share/camera-app/camera-app.qml:65:5: DeviceOrientation is not a type

Fixes the side stage with some regression.

Attach your HPTP to your computer.

Open the terminal on your computer and run

Code:
sudo adb pull /usr/share/applications/ /yourlocation/
Go through each app and remove this line

Code:
X-Ubuntu-StageHint=SideStage
Push your files back and profit.

Terminal after my *fix*.

Also replacing SideStage with Main works. But we still loose some menu functionality either fix I try. I'm sure this is just a feature that has not been fully implemented into Ubuntu Touch yet.

Another issue I have found to be quite annoying and nonproductive. Rotation within apps and the keyboard make the typing not possible without a restart.

What do you mean?

I have spent to much time on the camera...

Which is now working after I recompiled!

VideoOutput {
id: viewFinder

property bool shouldBeCentered: device.isLandscape
property real anchoredY: viewFinderGeometry.y * (device.isInverted ? +1 : -1)
property real anchoredX: viewFinderGeometry.x * (device.isInverted ? +1 : -1)

x: viewFinder.shouldBeCentered ? 0 : viewFinder.anchoredX
y: viewFinder.shouldBeCentered || device.naturalOrientation === "landscape" ?
0 : viewFinder.anchoredY
height: parent.height
width: parent.width
source: camera

/* This rotation need to be applied since the camera hardware in the
Galaxy Nexus phone is mounted at an angle inside the device, so the video
feed is rotated too.
FIXME: This should come from a system configuration option so that we
don't have to have a different codebase for each different device we want
to run on */
//orientation: device.naturalOrientation === "portrait" ? -90 : 0
orientation: device.naturalOrientation === "landscape" ? 90 : 0
