if you are trying to use ADB to push the file to the sd card you need to be in charge mode not disk drive mode, make sure usb debug is on also......or you can just drag and drop the file straight onto your sd card in disk drive mode, then use something like astro file manager to verify the MD5

Is the file on your SD card yet? If yes use astro file manager or something similar from the market, long press the PG58IMG.zip file, then select details, it will give you MD5 on the bottom give it a minute to load the MD5.

if you used adb to push it to the SD card it auto checks the MD5 for you....

does the new radio work with custom roms or just the stock rom?

Long thread for all here. Please read:

Under normal circumstances, one should NOT be haphazardly updating radio. Besides Radio Files, there are RIL. http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1202867 explains RIL in more detail. Radio Interface Layers for our Sensation. Essentially by matching this file with the radio you use you ensure the best performance with data, and general functionality.
Some ROMs will automatically match the correct RIL with the radio recommended if there was a recommendation in the OP.
Up to now, I have had the best performance by basically keeping the stock Radio that was on my TMOUS and basically flashing the correspoding RIL that matches the stock radio, AFTER flashing the ROM.
Here is a prior post with a reference location for the initial radio and corresponding RIL.
EDIT: Finally found my source for the stock Radio
http://a.22aaf3.com/pyramid/radio/
PG58IMG.zip 20-Jul-2011 14:49 10M
10.42.9007.00P_10.11.9007.15_M

Hopefully using this with .0159RIL will fix the issues I have re data.

So Basically, unless you update the radio, it stays on any ROM changes. Look at the bootloader screen to see what you are running. And again, I prefer using fastboot commands to update a radio with the radio.img file on my sdk folder on my PC and simply type in while booted up to the bootloader:
fastboot flash radio radio.img
I just prefer this to the update method of using the PG58img.zip file method already discussed.

So by keeping a known radio that works with no bugs such as battery drains, etc, flash your ROM, then reflash the corresponding RIL that matches.

Please look at the very well written and guide thread Regarding RIL I referenced at the beginning of my post here. A little bit of reading and understanding can possibly save a lot of headaches regarding just flashing radio files without really understanding why you would want to do this and bricking which can and will happen without absolutely doing basic stuff not mentioned for the most part.

Stock radio for me was 10.43a.9007.00U_10.51.9007.27, I decided to update to 10.50.9007.00U_10.12.9007.21_2 and I find that I am getting signal much more often, I am in an area that has bad signal for Vodaphone network (I'm on Talkmobile), I find that with the stock radio I was getting hardly any signal ever, now I'm getting 1-2 bars most of the time and more often that I was before I was getting up to 5 bars in doors so I think it is an improvement.

I don't know if I have had any improvement or made battery life worse but I guess time will tell, I'm goping that I will have improved battery life now as it was horrible.

This was excellent, taught me a lot about the RIL's. A few dev's already include the proper RIL files that are matched to the Radio in there ROM!!!

Has anyone on Tmobile tried and had good luck with the new 1.45 radio?

Gonna try it. Will update you shortly.

EDIT: Looking for matching RIL. Get back to you again shortly

EDIT2:
Location : Bronx, NYC
ROM: LeeDroid v.2.1

Previous Radio: 10.23.9007.00P_10.11.9007.12_M
RIL w/ Above Radio: 2.2.0159HMQ

Test 1: With 1.45 Radio and RIL 2.2.0159HMQ
Signal: No noticeable difference. Drove slowly through known dead spots and were still dead. Although there seems to be some signal strengths. No problems in collecting locations. Note I am not sure if radios mess with GPS but I did notice that GPS was less accurate and in some cases WAY off. Someone please pardon my ignorance and let me know.
Data: Slightly slower speeds. Lets say 90% of full throttle.

Test 2: With 1.45 Radio and RIL 2.2.0169HMQ
Signal: No noticeable difference. GPS was accurate tho
Data : Data speeds 3/4 of what used to be with frequent disconnects.

ShootMe screenshots coming soon

EDIT 3: KILLER BATTERY DRAIN associated with Test 2. 30 mins to half life

I've been having battery drain issues with the latest radio and the InsertCoin ROM. I'm on T-Mobile US. One thing I notice is when I go to an area that is only 2G instead of 4G the awake time on ky phone goes through the roof and the battery drains like crazy. I may try using an older T-Mobile US radio with matching RIL to see if this solves my issues.

Thanks.

     * if you have any concerns about flashing a radio before flashing it!
     * YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the
     * finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you. */

    How to Flash:

In order for this to work, the HTC Sensation needs to be S-OFF. Flashing the radio with a corrupt file or interrupting the flash, can brick the device, please proceed with caution.

    1. Download the your choice of radio for the HTC Sensation.
    2. Make sure the filename is PG58IMG.zip exactly or it will not work and copy it to the same folder as adb (the /platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder).
    3. Connect the HTC Sensation to the computer via USB.
    4. On the computer, open terminal and run the following commands:
      Code:
      adb push PG58IMG.zip /sdcard/PG58IMG.zip
      adb shell md5sum /sdcard/PG58IMG.zip
NOTE: The md5 should match up the provide the original download location. If not, redownload & try again.
      Code:
      adb reboot bootloader
    5. The HTC Sensation will reboot & usually boot into fastboot. Pressing the Power button will put the device into the bootloader.
    6. The bootloader will scan for the radio update. Once it finds the update, select Yes.
    7. Allow the bootloader to finish flashing the updated radio, and reboot the HTC Sensation normally.

First, thank you for the write up and radio links and contribution to all of this.

Now for my question: Wouldn't fastboot be easier and safer?
1 - Copy the .img to your /sdk/tools folder (or whatever folder depending on computer OS). Verify MD5.
2 - Boot into bootloader (Vol Down + Pwr).
3 - Navigate to Fastboot (Vol down to Fastboot and press Pwr). Make sure your phone says Fastboot USB.
4 - Open command promt (or terminal depending on OS)in folder you put file.
    5 - Type:
    Code:
    fastboot flash radio xxxx.img
    xxxx is radio name.

I find this faster and safer. I find SDCards can corrupt the file easier than anything else therefore leaving the file on your computer to flash from is one less transfer and possible issue. As we all know, the 2 things that have the greatest chance of bricking a device are your Radio and Bootloader images.

    Just my .02:cool:
