Ok I have the LG-P999dwp version, and was in unable to do the update through the lg updater. Was told that i have latest version. I am also running win7 ultimate and the KDZ program would always crash, so i found a work around.

I downloaded the LG kdz program and the V21_00.Kdz file You can get them from here, http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1179750 here are pics to help you do this on a windows 7 ultimate and should work for any version of win 7.

The pictures show you what to do.
1: open the KDZ program ( follow the instructions in the read me )
then keep the cdma and DIAG alone and choose the browse and click on the V21E_00.KDZ file.

Sorry if this has been posted but i searched and could not find anything on how to do this. I was working out a few ways to do this on win 7 without installing win xp :)

2:Click on read phone information at the bottom of the program.

3:Click on Upgrade Start

4:Change country to different country and change Language to english

5:click ok and this opens up the LG updater and will push the update of GB to your phone on windows 7 machine and for phone with LG-P999dwp model # (aka refurb)

Works!!! Just follow the steps exactly. My wife has a p999dwp and I have a p999dw. Ive been trying to get Gingerbread on hers for two days now (the official way). I can now find one complaint about the update, I love it. I haven't used Bluetooth yet though. Thanks so much.

doesnt really matter, i had it unplugged till the window like the screenshot came up, try reinstalling the 3.x.x drivers from LG theres a thread somewhere and then plug your device in a different usb porn and wait for it all to install

It doesn't work for me guys. Tried reading the phone info as advised-it can't complete the operation. I get the stupid error and nothing happens. Don't know how to go around that error. Tried running the R&D tool in compatabilty mode and still got the same error.
Anyone else having the same issue?

Do you guys click on read phone info button on the second screen as well? That's where I am getting the Chiptype Error. Have you guys tried that? I am afraid if the tool doesn't read the phone info it won't be able to update it properly and I may brick my device. Any advises?

Try rebooting your PC and reinstalling it... Only thing I did was downloaded the LG updater the other day and reinstalled it ... after it installed I connected my phone and it installed some drivers...

I just did this. I'm on a windows 7 64bit pc. I updated to GB only to obtain the baseband, then intended to restore my CM7. These are the steps I took:

    1) Nandroid my cm7 nightly
    2) Restore to stock using TGA_Gunnman's nandroid and wiped data/factory reset immediately AFTER restoring stock, and prior to turning phone back on
    3) Turned phone on, skipped google login
    4) Enabled Debugging mode and then unrooted with superoneclick (I know some people say this isn't necessary, but since installing the update was going to unroot my phone anyway, I didn't see the harm in taking this 30 second step.)
    5) Turned phone off and pulled out the battery
    6) Started up nvflash (I already had the APX drivers installed...if you don't already, you need to follow the instructions on this thread:
    7) Pressed and held volume up and down keys simultaneously, waiting a few more seconds and then plugged in USB cable (USB cable was already connected to PC's USB port)
    8) Selected "Flash Stock Recovery" and continued to hold the volume keys down until the flash completed and said "press any key to continue"
    9) Pulled out USB cable, released volume keys, re-inserted battery, and booted up, again skipping google login
9a) Increased screen time-out duration to 30 minutes because it was annoying me everytime it would go dim after 30 seconds, lol
    10) Plugged in USB cable to my phone and followed the steps in the OP exactly (installing msxml.msi FIRST before the kdz tool).
    11) Update tool turned phone on for the first time (update process took 5 minutes) and then I exited the LG software and KDZ tools once boot up was 100% complete.
    12) Repeated the above steps 5, 6, and 7 but this time I selected "Flash Clockworkmod External support"
    13) NVflash didn't recognize my phone, probably because I plugged it in too fast after pulling the battery. So I pulled out the usb cable, waiting 30 seconds, then pressed and held the volume keys for 5 seconds, then plugged USB back in and selected the flash option again. This worked.
    14) Pulled out the USB cable, released the volume keys, re-inserted the battery, and booted into CWM by pressing and holding the volume down button and power button simultaneously until the 2nd splash screen appeared (ANDROID in green letters).
    15) Restored my CM7 nandroid and fixed permissions (not sure if this is necessary, but it's become a habit of mine).
    16) Booted up and took screenshot.
    17) Plugged in USB cable and wiped internal SD of all stock android installed stuff.

End result: Successful baseband update with preferred CM7 environment.

edit: test gps and it got lock, accurate to 36 feet within 12 seconds (which is a personal record for this phone and this area)...it took about another minute or so to get it accurate to 9-12 feet. I don't know about this 'instant lock indoors" thing I kept seeing people post...I waited about 2 minutes for lock indoors and I finally stopped caring.

    Thank you so much OP!

Don't click on read phone info on the second screen. Just click on update start. And no it should not brick your phone I did this to 2 phones and went smoothly.

    Thank you so much OP!

I've updated your steps with a bit more info (thanks for the steps by the way!). I've also merged them with the OP's so it's a bit more clear cut. I had already rooted my G2x via ADB, and was running the latest CM7 nightly. I just wanted the latest baseband. Also I was running LG-p999dw, not LG-p999dwp but based on mmapcpro's post, it should work for that one as well.

Computer Software Setup -- Do First
Prior to flashing your phone, setup your Windows computer (I tested on Vista and Windows 7) with the following software:
    1) Copy the NVFlash app, download and also install the APX drivers, etc. If you've yet to flash CWM to your phone via NVFlash, now is a good time The thread to do that is here
    2) Download the KDZ file
    3) Download the LG KDZ app from here: http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=810271
    4) Extract the files from the .7z (7zip) compressed archive to a directory on your desktop (I named my directory LG KDZ).
    4) In the extracted LG KDZ app folder, run and install the msxml.exe. This is important.
    5) Download the T-Mobile G2x Android USB driver from LG.
    6) Install the LG Android USB driver you just downloaded
    7) Download the LG Mobile Support Tool
    8) Install the LG Mobile Support Tool you just downloaded.

Now, you've installed the LG support software drivers, USB drivers, downloaded NVFlash and LG KDE's tool, etc. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you should restart your computer before continuing. All of the stuff above worked fine on both my Win Vista computer, and Win 7 box.

    Phone - Ready to flash
    1) Nandroid backup your current CM7 nightly.
    2) Restore to stock using TGA_Gunnman's nandroid, wipe data/factory reset immediately AFTER restoring stock and prior to turning phone back on
    3) Turn the phone on and skip google login
    4) Enabled Debugging mode
4a) [Optional] Unroot with superoneclick. I did not do this step since I rooted it manually via ADB. My phone had no problems updating.
    5) Turn the phone off and pull out the battery
    6) Start up nvflash
    7) Press and hold volume up and down keys simultaneously, waiting a few more seconds and then plugg in the USB cable (USB cable should already be connected to PC's USB port)
    8) Select "Flash Stock Recovery" and continue to hold the volume keys down until the flash completed and said "press any key to continue"
    9) Pull out the USB cable, release volume keys, re-insert the battery, and power up the phone, again skipping google login

    10) You should now be on the Android desktop on your phone. Plug in the USB cable to the phone.
    11) Open the KDZ program (you should've installed msxsml at this point since it's in the steps above these) then keep the settings: "cdma" and "DIAG" alone.
    12) Select the browse and select the V21E_00.KDZ file you downloaded in the previous steps.
    13) Click on "read phone information" at the bottom left corner of the program.
    14) Click on Upgrade Start button on the dialog that popped up.
    15) Change the country option in the popup to "different country" and change language option to "English".
    16) Click Ok and this launches the LG updater and will push the update of GB to your phone. LET IT COMPLETE WHATEVER IT'S DOING. Pulling out the USB cable while it's working will most likely brick your phone. Your phone will automatically reboot and install the update by itself, no work on your end necessary. It will look like it's taking awhile, but just let it do its thing. You'll also hear your USB connection in Windows toggle on and off quite a few times. The entire process took 6mins for me.

Congrats, your phone should now be back to stock with the new baseband and GB update.

Now, to restore back to your rooted CM7 from before and keep the new baseband:
    17) Turn the phone off and pull out the battery
    18) Start up nvflash
    19) Press and hold volume up and down keys simultaneously on the phone, waiting a few seconds and then plug in the USB cable (USB cable should already be connected to PC's USB port)
    20) Select "Flash External Clockworkmod" and continue to hold the volume keys down until the flash completed and said "press any key to continue"
    21) Pull out the USB cable, release volume keys, and re-insert the battery.
    22) Boot into CWM by pressing and holding the volume down button and power button simultaneously until the 2nd splash screen appeared (ANDROID in green letters).
    23) Restore your backed up CM7 nandroid that we did in step 1, fix permissions, wipe dalvik cache, reboot phone.

You should now be running CM7 on the new baseband. Hopefully that makes it a bit easier, since I was cobbling things together as I did it.
