Guys, I have CROMI-X on my tab. I want to sell it. What will be the state of the device after factory reset?
I want all personal settings gone. Any advice, please?
Peter

Format data in TWRP and flash CROMi-X again. That should do it except for people with sophisticated data recovery tools.
I would not 'factory reset' from the Settings menu or "Wipe Data" from the bootloader. You might have to sell it for parts after that ;)

Thanks, berndblb, I guess you saved my bacon. I would have gone directly to "factory reset".....
MOstly I want all my automatic logins (like google, Netflix, etc) gone.

I'm just curious if @berndblb is using noop or not... If he is using the default (row) and not seeing the long pauses in Gmail and the Play Store, then I'm curious why he is seeing different results than I...

So far, noop does seem to be performing better though - will report back after I use it more...

Thanks for the tip.

BTW, if noop is recommended, why not use it by default with _that kernels?

I'm mostly on _that kernels, right now v7 and the default scheduler. But I was running v4 on 5.3 until a couple of days ago. As I said: Never had any hang ups in Gmail - or anywhere else for that matter....

Formatting the entire data partition will take care of that. You find it under the Advanced tap in the Wipe menu.
Make sure you have the Cromi-X zip on your microSD to flash afterwards or you'll wipe it out formatting data.

Aha. So when I do Data wipe in TWRP I won't be able to boot to desktop unless I reflash Cromi-X? What stays on the tab after data wipe?
Only the bootloader/TWRP?

NOOP is feeling noticibly smoother on my tab under the ET. I find that hilarious because NOOP is typically the red-headed stepchild of schedulers.

I am very sure that you are running rom2sd...:) Your SIO scheduler is not optimized when you are using rom2sd.. When SIO is optimized, it is better than default NOOP. Without optimization on SIO, NOOP is better....:) It is the reason that I suggest usingit on _that's kernel for multitasking. You are only using half of the ET on rom2sd. Let see if I can create a flashable for the rom2sd fix for now until sbdags fixing it on his next rom release..:)

A data wipe will only delete apps and some settings. A data format will wipe the entire data partition.
You should still be able to boot into Android - never tried that (you willing to give it a shot?), but for a fully functional system you should re-flash the rom because some parts of the installation do get written to the /data partition. You'll have to ask sbdags for specifics....

That is what I don't understand... Apparently, you don't see these delays when using _that v4 and the default scheduler (ROW), yet I do. I understand that different usages will result in different experiences, but I'm not doing anything special - not even multitasking much at all (if ever). Just using one app at a time (and I actually have very few apps loaded). This is why I was wondering if maybe some TF700's have different (faster?) internal storage than other TF700's. Strange...

Anyway, things do seem to be responding much better with the NOOP scheduler.

Is there any reason that I should stick with _that v4 instead of _that v7?? Been away from this stuff for a while, so I'm a little "behind the times"! :)

Thanks guys.

EDIT: I wonder if my gmail app delays are due to the number of emails I have in my Gmail account.... Basically, I don't ever delete emails.... I have thousands and thousands of emails in my Gmail account! :)

I seriously wonder if different TF700's have different internal storage memory chips or something... Some folks say that they don't even get slowdowns when installing apps either...

I get the long pauses in gmail all of the time - will grab a logcat soon...

This is with a completely fresh install and not restoring any apps or settings at all...

Just wondering, could your delays be attributed to delays in your Internet connection, ie. your ISP. Where do you use your tablet generally? Have you tried using at a friends house or even at the library to see if you get the same delays? Sometimes when I see a Google app acting funky, I notice that the WiFi icon has turned gray and once it turns blue the funkiness goes away.

Definitely not internet-related in my case... I did experience the same delays regardless of where I was at (mostly work and home). I have a very high-speed internet connection.

Also, since switching to NOOP scheduler, the delays seem to have disappeared. At least so far. Haven't got an ANR in GMail yet either - even though I've tried to make it happen (I can usually make it happen simply by selecting different emails in Gmail).

Time will tell, but switching to NOOP seems to have made a significant difference....

Also - I only got the delays/ANR's on my TF700 - NEVER get them on my Nexus 7 or on my HTC 3D phone, even though I'm using the same wifi connection.

Need to ask you what you mean by multitasking. I've been using Android for almost three years and in all my reading and usage, there really isn't true multitasking. If you have more than one app open, the one on the screen is active, any others in the recent apps list are suspended. The exception to this might be if you start a download in a browser, and then start another app, the download will continue. But if you start a video playing in YouTube, and minimize that app, the video stops. Let's say you start a search in the browser, the search will not continue while you are using other apps. Am I wrong on this?

Shell into your device with adb and run 'top'. Then you will see what is really going on with your device and apps. Linux is very much prevalent in android and background services can take all the CPU they like. Any app can be a very thin user interface communicating with a service based process. For example, titanium backup, which doesn't stop when running backups. Solid explorer copying files, music apps playing songs, etc.

So far great....but an X-loud question

I put the Chromi ROM on and so far much better response from the tablet and cleaner. HUGE thumbs up from me.

The one item I am curious about is the X-loud. It says it does louder volume and equalizer, and something else I can remember. I thought there would be an equalizer control panel app or something but I am not finding it.

Am I missing something?

Also Other than Chromi what other ROM are people loving on here?

Yes there is an equalizer. Go to settings sound but I thought there was an app too.

Hi sbdags,
I need a big help from you. I download a lot of flash videos to watch those Korean dramas (not sure if you guys can relate, they are super popular in Asia) and I used this plugin for Firefox called Flash Video Downloader to download those videos. Basically, when you stream a flash video with Firefox, there will be a download button to download videos, and it works on most sites. The plugin worked wonderfully on ASUS stock firmware (10.6.1.14.10), but it doesn't work on CROMI-X 5.3 (or 5.2.3, I have only tried 2 versions). On CROMI-X 5.3, whenever I touch the download button, there will be a prompt asking me to open the links with various apps on my tablet (from ES File Explorer to DropBox) instead of initiating the download notification, and none of the options allows me to download any video. I am sure it is not the problem with Firefox or the plugin because I used the exact same version of Firefox and plugin, together with almost the same apps as when I was on stock.
Please let me know if you have time to look into this and I can provide any information that you need.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Apps are suspended when in the background, but service processes started by apps (music player, downloader, ... anything the app wants to do that doesn't need a UI) continue to run.

Shell into your device with adb and run 'top'. Then you will see what is really going on with your device and apps. Linux is very much prevalent in android and background services can take all the CPU they like.

AFAIK there are cgroup assignments that should prevent background services from taking all the CPU they like. But CPU seems to be less a problem anyway, it's heavy I/O that slows everything down.

Another way that Android multi-tasks is with "windowed" apps (there are quite a few now). Basically, I have have a few windowed apps running at the same time on the same screen - all are active and running at the same time.

If you have a faster external SD, you should see performance gain running rom2sd...;) Like I said in the previous post, you should have the same kernel on both internal and external SDs in order for it to work properly. I don't know if it is still true statement or not.. I need someone to confirm that..:)

Edit: Under Wipe, there is an advance Wipe button and a Format button. If you want to Format your data partition, you need to type Yes and return to format...:)

Hi mate. I tried after formatting data and installed v5.3 et on external SD and also internal SD to make sure both were the same. The WiFi issue seem to have been solved but I am cannot see channel 13 even though I made sure I installed ww version. I might have done something wrong. Anyway wanted try reinstalling onto external SD but how do I wipe the system on external SD before installing rom2sd that is do a clean install??? I tried installing but I don't get the setup wizard on first boot up....

Flash rom2sd1 first. After that, every action you take in TWRP will affect the external card and partitions. Flash rom2sd1 again or simply reboot to orient TWRP towards the internal again.

I am already running rom2sd. So you mean I can boot into recovery and whatever I do will affect the external sd card? So if i chose factory reset in recovery it will wipe my external sd???

I just noticed that I can still select internal storage when choosing the zip file to install? Is that normal? Thanks!

TF700 USERS: YOU MUST BE ON THE ASUS STOCK JB 4.2.1 BOOTLOADER VERSION 10.6.1.14.x AND TWRP 2.5.0.0+ BEFORE FLASHING THIS ROM. SEE UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW IF YOU ARE UNSURE

If you have a different ASUS tablet, please look at this thread to see if there is a compatible version of this ROM.

I recommend you do a full wipe if coming from another ROM. Choose Wipe – Factory in TWRP. Do not do a full wipe from the bootloader.

You can restore data from Titanium Backups but please do not restore system data or apps from a previous version or another ROM if you want a nice clean smooth upgrade experience.

Don't forget to do a Nandroid Backup first and give the ROM 10 mins to stabilise!

Factory Stock Android Operating System & Bootloader (Asus 10.6.1.x)

    Steps

    1. If you haven’t yet, unlock and root your TF700 by following these instructions.

    2. Install the latest version of Team Win Recovery Project (TWRP) - TWRP XDA Thread

Download and install the Scott's TF700T Recovery Install Tool. Once downloaded, extract the files on your Windows PC, connect your tablet to the computer and run the Recovery Install Tool.bat file.

    3. Skip Scenario Two and Jump to the Installing CROMi-X section.

    Scenario Two

Custom recovery such as TWRP or Clockworkmod installed with a Custom ROM package

    Steps

    1. Update your bootloader to the latest one for your device by flashing from your existing custom recovery and then choose reboot from the menu.
Please don't flash these at the same time as a ROM package as the latter will cancel the bootloader/TWRP flash.

    Scenario Three

    I'm upgrading from CROMi-X 4.x.

    Steps

    1. Congratulations. Jump directly to the Installing CROMi-X section.

    INSTALLING CROMi-X
If you followed the appropriate steps for your scenario above, you now have a compatible bootloader installed and a custom recovery such as TWRP.

    Steps

    1. Download the appropriate ROM package below and save to your internal or external SD Card. Do not unzip the file. Join the debate about which manner of packaging files is better (ODEX or DEODEX) or just use DEODEX since it allows for a bit more customization possibilities. ODEX may boot slightly faster but then again, it may only boot slightly faster the first time. Google ODEX vs DEODEX if you really want to understand.

    About Fsync

    Explanation by _that:

    About the Experimental Features

During the install some features are listed as EXPERIMENTAL. I have left them as an option so you can play and enjoy debugging :) Please let me know if you used the experimental features like Extreme Tweaks, Cache2SD, Overvolting, Undervolting. if you want a stable smooth experience flash _that's kernel, with fsync disabled and one of the normal WW or US editions.

If you are a speed freak and don't mind the odd bug go for hunds with experimental tweaks, software rendering disabled and GPU OC, CPU OV and GPU UV.

Cache2SD is very experimental and may cause other issues so I'll leave that one up to you :)

    Various Kernel Benchmarks

Right benchmarks with various kernel options:

All were taken on CROMi-X 5.1 Odex with default options at 240dpi unless otherwise stated (fsync off / on). I've used quadrant as most people understand the results - I know it's not the best and I did 3 tests each time and took the 3rd result.

    Stock - fsync on - 5672
    36lLrlI.jpg

    _that v4 - fsync off - 5981
    EZW240w.jpg

    _that v4 - fsync on + data2sd - 5745

    _that v5 - fsync on + data2sd - 6143

    Hunds + ET - fsync on - 6684
    hyiyFZL.jpg

    Hunds + ET - fsync off - 7245

    Hunds - fsync off - 6805

    Hunds - fsync on +data2sd - 6597
    TqPlv18.jpg

So data2sd doesn't really offer that much if you keep fsync on. It does feel faster when loading large games and files. The issue is it is a bit more unstable and easier to corrupt the data partition if you have fsync off. Same risk with normal data I suppose but less likely to corrupt due to less sponteneous reboots.

Is data2sd worth it? Only if you want to use your tablet whilst downloading large files or play store updates or you are prone to corruption with fsync off. Otherwise you can achieve at least the same speed with fsync off although with a risk to corrupt your data partition eventually.

    ==================================================================================================

Using GParted to setup a micro SD for ROM2SD support

First and foremost - DO NOT USE MINI TOOL!

Formatting a micro sd card for ROM2SD

We will be using a GParted Live boot USB and a FAST good quality micro sd like a Sandisk or Samsung Class 10 - SDHC/SDXC UHS-1 card with read speed of at least 20MB/S. If you have a cheap chinese eBay card don't bother - they are not good enough.

You will also need a USB Stick with at least 1GB size. Note this process formats the USB disk so don't keep any important files on it. It will also wipe your micro sd so make sure you are prepared.

    1. Go to the link below and download the GParted Live CD/USB/HD/PXE Bootable Image and save it somewhere you remember
    http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php
    2. Download Linux Live USB Creator and install it
    http://www.linuxliveusb.com/

    3. Fire up LiLi USB Creator:
    a. Choose your USB key - I,e, the drive letter for your USB (not sd card)
    b. Choose your GParted iso image for the source
    c. Choose the check box to Format Key in FAT32 and hide files
    d. Click the lightning bolt to create
    OZHOmQn.png

    4. Now you have a bootable disk you need to boot from it. You may need to alter you BIOS Settings on your PC to boot from a USB Stick but mine did it without messing.
    5. Insert your micro SD card into an SD Card adapter and insert into PC
    6. Boot into GParted ;)
    3FFqWmn.png

    7. Choose Gparted Live <Enter>
    8. Don’t touch keymap <Enter>
    9. Languge <Enter>
    10. Start Gparted Automatically
    11. Change device to your micro sd )it will default to you hard disk - hda– mine is /dev/sdc

    gsiR9qR.png

    12. Delete all existing partitions

For a 64GB card: (resize as needed but /system doesn't need to be bigger than 1GB)
    13. Create new, always select primary: do this 3 times.
    14. FAT 32 : Size 16GB – this will be /dev/sdc1 in gparted and will be your sdcard for storage in Android
    15. EXT4 : Size 42GB – this will be /dev/sdc2 in gparted and will be your /data partition in Android
    16. EXT4 : Size 1GB – this will be /dev/sdc3 in gparted and will be your /system partition in Android

    eXFznzI.png

Apply, wait until it finishes and then reboot. Remember to remove the usb stick ;)

*Images stolen from elsewhere as I couldn’t get it to save mine :(

Now you are ready to install ROM2SD. Note if you want to use DATA2SD then only do 2 partitions 1x FAT32 and 1x larger EXT4

Then reinstall CROMi-X but this time choose the ROM2SD option (currently option 3 on the kernel page)
