Pleasantly surprised myself today when I plugged in my E07K after upgrading to 5.0,with a OTG cable, and it worked flawlessly.
Finally no need to install third-party kernels for OTG support Yay!!!

Does it play 24/96 music files and output 24/96 PCM stream?

96kHz high resolution music can be freely downloaded from 2L:

A list of USB DAC reportedly interworking with the native USB audio of Android L is created:

Thanks for reporting, even in case of non-interworking so that the Google Android Audio team can hopefully fix interworking issues!

Yes, Poweramp seems to play 24/96 flac files just fine through a DAC. Play Music crashed whenever I tried to play the same file with a USB-DAC connected, but seems to play it fine otherwise.

Any input on the sound quality for different models?

This is for a car install. Planning on dac to stock external amp.
I was hoping to start out using the headphone jack for now, but i see it wont fit without hacking out more of the dash than i would like.

Will i still be able to control the volume via android, or does that get passed to the dac? Im sure it varies with model but trying to narrow it down before i order one.

Has anyone tried the mic inputs on a DAC like the Behringer under Lollipop? Will I be able to issues "OK google" commands if I have one?

With CM11 and Android L, volume control from Android works just fine. If your DAC has onboard volume controls, they will continue to work fine.

So, in spite of the lack of any positive feedback, I went ahead and bought a Fiio E17 DAC.

Tried it on SlimROM with ElementalX kernel. dmesg detected it when I plugged in, but Android doesn't - it still pays back sound from the speakers / lineout.
Since the kernel was detecting it, decided to try the USB Audio Player app - and viola, it works!

Unfortunately, this is less than ideal as I really want the DAC to work with Spotify, DI.fm and other apps - basically I want Android to recognize it as a standard device.

I'll have to try it out with bruce2728's CM11 port and see how it goes. But for now, I'm truly enjoying listening to some Pink Floyd on my Takstar 2050 'phones - sounds really amazing! :)

    And it lives!

Switched to bruce2728's CM11 with ElementalX kernel and my Fiio E17 works beautifully with all apps!

Apps tested: Spotify, Play Music, PlayerPro, DI Radio, Neutron Player
What's working: DAC, volume control from android, DSP Manager
    What's not: 24bit playback :(, hot-plugging
Yet to test: DAC + Nexus 7 charging at the same time.

Not sure if it's a kernel limitation or DAC+Android compatibility issue? Tried playing some 24bit Pink Floyd SACDs via Neutron Player - it detects it as 24bit but Fiio only shows it as 16bit. Mind you it does sound really good, just a bit disappointed that I can't play it in all it's 24-bit glory.

I'll have to investigate this further. But as it is, I'm quite satisfied with the whole setup overall.
