So I guess the 64k$ question is, after doing the OTA update, does this still work?
Will wait for an official answer from the man

This was how to use ODIN to get back to the stock firmware that came with the Note 2 when it was released.

After it's install, then you should be able to root, unlock, etc without issue.
I bought this thing today. The second it turned on it applied an update and rebooted. The rep was holding it. I guess I'll guinea pig here in a sec when the kiddo goes to bed.

wow, if this doesn't work... Verizon may have said "Suck It XDA"... Or "Suck It AdamOutler"..
I'm going to try it here in a sec. Downloading the files now and putting the kid to sleep. What's the worst that can happen?
I've tried the updated method, with the pit file, and still no luck. Still stuck. Odin just keeps failing - gets near the end, then nope! nothing. Can't boot my phone whatsoever; only access to download mode. -- [Fresh out of box today, new. OTA update installed by rep.]

Youre doing something wrong. I already troubleshot this with someone else who received the phone today and received the update. They unlocked sucessfully and even made a $5 donation. The $5 tells me that they didnt just get pissed and quit. Try again.
You have to flash the baseline first. Then run CASUAL which runs several exploits and finally you flash the suck it verizon bootloader
Dude.. What the hell? You don't need to do any Renaming. Its an executable jar.

By all means, I'm not quitting. - When I fail, it only makes me want to achieve completion that much more. I'm just frustrated... it's my luck that there would be an OTA the day I have to exchange my phone, lol. I just now have an unusable device.
I would be happy to donate $5 as well, hands down - if you'd be willing to maybe PM me and assist me? I appreciate your help as it is - I can only imagine how overwhelmed you may be with troubleshooting... but if you can manage, it'd help me a lot. I've followed your new updated instructions from the start - pit file and all. I've attached a screenshot of where it fails, as usual. If I run just the pit file by itself, that is successful, and at least gets my phone to reboot/display the 'Samsung Galaxy Note 2' screen, but never goes past that. That's just the only progress I've been able to make.
I've tried redownloading all the files on the original post as well, but still fail.
As always, thanks for the help. Can't wait to find out where I went wrong. Anxious to use my N2 again!

Just picked up my phone this evening. Took me less than 5 minutes I think and I'm good to go! Thanks Adam! I also bumped the directions with a guide here and seemed helpful for people starting off rooted or completely stock.
