Problems flashing gingerbread? Too lazy to find the links to flash everything? Well here’s a break down with step by step instructions with links.
This guide is non-version specific. This will get you off FROYO onto GBread or just to upgrade your Gbread ROM. I am also assuming that you are actually trying to flash that you have already rooted your phone previously, if not please PM me and I will take your step by step on a more personal voyage. Also, I am not responsible for anything happening to your phone that causes it to not work properly. All the mods posted on this forum are not allowed by the manufacturer and therefore are not covered by the warranty.
IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY FLASHED ANY ROM YOU WILL NEED TO GO INTO CWM AND DISABLE VOODOO BEFORE ANY OF THE BELOW STEPS!
Step 1: Download ODIN 1.7

Step 2: Download and install Samsung drivers
http://firon.net/xda/Samsung_Mobile_Driver_V1.3.800_For_SPH-d700_Epic_4G.zip (32-bit)
http://firon.net/xda/usb_drivers_GalaxyS_x64.zip (64-bit)
Step 3: Download either the KG4 LEAK or the KH1 LEAK (I prefer the KG4 because I know it works)
KG4 - http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1183413
KH1- http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1211613
Step 4: Turn the phone off.
Step 5: Run the ODIN program.
Step 6: Hold down the Volume Up and the Volume Down key on the phone simultaneously and plug in the USB cable that is attached to your computer. You will see a screen on your phone that will indicate that you are now in download mode.
At this point you should see that your computer is recognizing the phone and after it is finished recognizing it, you will see a bar in ODIN light up. This means ODIN recognizes the phone.
Step 7: Click the button in ODIN that says PDA and choose the md5 or the tar file that you downloaded from step 3.
Step 8: Hit start and let ODIN do its work.
Step 9: After ODIN completes, your phone should reboot. Go all the way into the OS and shut your phone down again and repeat step 6.
Step 10: Download drhonks KG4 kernal.
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1194032
Step 11: You will again place this tar in the PDA field in ODIN and hit start and let it do its magic to give you root access as well as CWM recovery.
Step 12: Download your choice GBread ROM’s zip file from its creator and place it on the root of your SD card.
Step 13: Turn your phone off and when it is all the way off, hold down the Volume up and down buttons as well as the power button until you see the Galaxy S 4G splash screen.
At this point you will now be in CWM if you have done all the above steps properly.
Step 14: At this point I will recommend you to go to the Backup and Restore option and make a backup just in case. Choose the backup option and let it do its thing.
Step 15: Use your volume up and down keys to select mounts and storage selection and press the power button to select it. Make sure that the first 4 mounts are as follows: Unmount, Mount, Mount, Unmount. Go to the bottom of the list and confirm your selection which will return you to the main screen.
Step 16: Go to install zip from sdcard> choose zip from sdcard> ((this is the point where you select the zip to your choice Gbread ROM))> Choose Yes and let CWM install your ROM.
Step 17: Choose Go Back and then go to advanced and Reboot Recovery. Your phone will turn off and reboot into recovery.
Step 18: Upon entering into CWM, choose Voodoo and then select disable lagfix. Go Back and Reboot system now.
Step 19: Once you get done doing the initial set up on your system you will need to go to the market and download the following apps:
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.controlapp&feature=search_result
https://market.android.com/details?id=stericson.busybox&feature=search_result
Step 20: Open up the Busybox installer and install version 1.17 and put it in the xbin folder.
Step 21: Turn your phone off again and boot into CWM (step 13).
Step 22: Go back to the Voodoo option and enable lagfix. Go back and reboot your system.
At this point you should be stuck on the splash screen and you will hear Linda’s sweet voice speaking to you. If you hear her say that there is not enough room on the sdcard I will have to refer you to my friend Dsexton’s thread regarding the issue located here:
http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=1204682
EDIT: If you have flashed ICBINB KH1 and are witnessing the issue where your market does not install the app you just downloaded, please navigate the /system/app with Root Explorer or another app as such and look in the c section for the app that looks like the market and change the name to "vending.apk" and reboot your phone.
This should do the trick for you no matter what you are currently running. If you have any questions feel free to ask them in the thread or PM them to me.
If anyone who knows they are doing feels that I have missed a step, feel free to correct me.
Don’t forget if this post helped you in any way shape or form, please hit the thanks button at the bottom of my post.
A HUGE shout out to my boys in team ACID, Krylon360, drhonk, and anyone who’s thread I linked to in this thread.
