So... is there any hope for the voice? The apps like Iris & all, how do they implement the voice recognition & answers? Cant that be merged with this one?

For those of you who are complaining of no cards showing up:
You Have to understand that Google Now works by gathering information about where you are, what you search for and the like OVER TIME. You simply cannot expect it to have all of the information you want a few minutes after you install, wait for a few days, just use the Google search like you would usually and it will start to fill in!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ok so I'm ready to take charge of this thread proper. Please be patient:
-So first and foremost, Not I, or anyone else is responsible to any damage you do to your device. You are renaming/modifying system files so if you screw it up you are RESPONSIBLE, NOT US.YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED . Follow the Instructions in this post and you should be fine.
-Second, thank you very much to all the kind people who are providing the modded .apks for us. I can't account for every single person but thank you all for helping with the effort.
-Third, I will try to update this post as frequently as possible, but its so difficult to keep up with all the development as it moves quickly and its hard to pick up important info in the midst of all the questions. Any 'info dumps' in PM's would be appreciated.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
UPDATE 7/5 @ 11:22 AM - Added new .apk which should solve fc issues for some users and a new Cards explanation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These are the current instructions and download:
1.) Rename GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk in system/app to GoogleQuickSearchBox.bak
2.) Rename the "signed_velvet-voicereco.apk" that you downloaded (link below) to: "GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk"
3.) Place the renamed .apk in the system/app folder and set the permissions to rw-r-r
4.) Reboot and enjoy!
OR
1.) Rename GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk in system/app to GoogleQuickSearchBox.bak
2.) Try to install the downloaded .apk off your sd just like any other .apk
OR
1.) Flash the .zip down below through recovery -- AOSP ONLY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
APK Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?aht4jt8mh9jieh0
ZIP Download: http://www.tincandroid.com/ccount/click.php?id=26 -- AOSP ONLY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Current Status:
Working:
-It boots!
-searching through the text-box works
-location services work
-info cards work
Not working:
-Can't exit the app using the back button on the Google Now 'Cards' screen
-Sometimes cannot submit a typed search-query
-Voice search (Jelly Bean kernel-specific, we probably won't be able to fix :-\ )
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Devices this will NOT work on:
-Devices that are running anything before Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
-Devices not running an AOSP ROM (in most cases)
-iOS Devices (Suckas!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Troubleshooting Guide:
If you have followed the above instructions exactly and are still experiencing problems, read through this troubleshooting guide to see if a fix for your problem is there.
Apart from changing the event time, did you alter anything else? I'm getting the card on gnow but not the notification.
I'll take the opportunity to thank all who've made this posible
No. I've tested that with a few locations now and as long as the card shows a map with the predicted travel time it will notify me when i have to leave.
There's an option to turn on/off notifications: Settings > Now-Cards > Events > Notification.. Maybe it's turned off?
Thumbs up
Got the 7/5 install running on my note. Nice!
Only problem I was running into was running out of space on the /system. I have 4.5 megs of spare install space. Annoying.
I just used Jrummies rom tool box - I got it a few months back. Worked fine.
Waiting for voice!
Yes that way it uses the ics version basically using Google Now aka Velvet apk as somewhat of a skin so when you input by voice it uses the ICS google search voice engine rather than the new JB version. Because technically if people want to use voice search on their phone they can use it from the keyboard like on Slideit, Swiftkey or etc. So we take extract Google Now's voice voice input and switch it with Google Search and then recompile the Apk and it should work without having to alter numerous files on the ICS build.
