Installing a custom recovery

Installing a custom recovery

  • Download Odin3 & Samsung USB Driver
  • Install the Samsung USB Driver, make sure to run the installer as an Administrator by right clicking on the installer and selecting "Run as Administrator"
  • Unpack Odin.zip with Windows or another archive manager like 7-zip or WinRAR
  • Open Odin3.exe
  • You now see the following program

  • Shut down your tablet
  • Enter download mode by pressing Volume UP (right button) + the Power button
  • You will now get a warning, press Volume Down (left button)
  • Now connect your tablet to your computer with the usb cable that was included with the tablet

Updating the Bootloader

Updating the Bootloader

Why updating the Bootloader?
  • If you're going straight from Stock ICS to a custom Jelly Bean or KitKat rom, this guide is strongly recommended
  • If you're already on Stock Jelly Bean, you can skip this guide

If you're using a ICS Bootloader on a Jelly Bean or KitKat rom, you may get graphical glitches
This guide explains how to install the Jelly Bean Bootloader without going back to Stock ICS and update to Stock Jelly Bean

===This part can be skipped if you followed the above guide already===
  • Download Odin3 & Samsung USB Driver
  • Install the Samsung USB Driver, make sure to run the installer as an Administrator by right clicking on the installer and selecting "Run as Administrator"
  • Unpack Odin.zip with Windows or another archive manager like 7-zip or WinRAR
  • Open Odin3.exe
  • You now see the following program
GTaAZdt.png

===Skippable part ended===

  • Shut down your tablet
  • Enter download mode by pressing Volume UP (right button) + the Power button
  • You will now get a warning, press Volume Down (left button)
  • Now connect your tablet to your computer with the usb cable that was included with the tablet
  • Windows will now install drivers, this will take up to one minute
  • Odin should now say "<ID:0/005> Added!!", if not reinstall the USB Drivers
b98ysuP.png

  • The hardest part is done
  • Now download the file with the same model
  • Now click "PDA" and select the downloaded file (.tar.md5 should be the extension)
jZpVeEa.png

  • Make sure Re-Partition & F. Reset Time are unchecked
  • Now press "Start"
  • Odin will now send the file to your tablet, this will take a few seconds
  • Now you have a JB Bootloader and you're ready for JB or KitKat roms!

It should be all fine according to the log. I don't know how much technical Android knowledge you have but are you sure that you are in stock recovery and not in the bootloader? One is power + vol-up. The other one is power + vol-down.

No problem, Here is both the tab and the odin window. It fails Auth, but I dont know much about these tabs to know why

From what I can gather it looks like Verizon has locked the bootloader on these or something where others are not or were/are unlockable? Doesnt seem that any version is compatible with the recoveries for this? Can't find any odin files that flash at all for that matter.

Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. It seems that you are trying to flash recovery.img. Please try to flash the tar.md5 file that's provided in the download links.
No need to unpack this file :)
