I guess all the new versions of SuperSU will have systemless support...But what about if someone has a newer version of SuperSU, but doesn't have systemless root? Wouldn't it be better if AdAway just checked in some way if root is systemless or not and enabled the option accordingly?
Yes 'ad.doubleclick..... etc is a part of many url's that present nice ads.So the reason this was happening was because AdAway is blocking the hosts file with a ad.doubleclick.net DNS request that is in that URL?
If so then in this case it just makes it one more step to go to the intended URL lol
Maybe I didn't make my self clear. I have SuperSU 2.78 SR3, but I'm not systemless. Will the systemless option be greyed out? That's what it should be.I guess all the new versions of SuperSU will have systemless support...
But keep in mind that I also need SuperSU itself for su.d scripts support for example.
Systemless root alone will not allow me to install systemless script for AdAway.
That's why I enable the preference only if if SuperSU >= 2.56 is detected.
Why should it? There is no reason why you can't do systemless adaway while system rooted. (apart from being easier to do both at the same time)Maybe I didn't make my self clear. I have SuperSU 2.78 SR3, but I'm not systemless. Will the systemless option be greyed out? That's what it should be.
Well I appreciate you taking the time to help me with thisYes 'ad.doubleclick..... etc is a part of many url's that present nice ads.
We need an extra step sometimes ....[emoji1]
Some posts back they said you can't have systemless AdAway on system root. If it's not that way, then what's the way to make AdAway systemless. Because just ticking the respective box in the settings doesn't work. Why should it? There is no reason why you can't do systemless adaway while system rooted. Is there a rss feed for new releases including the download link?
I don't want to use Labs (permanent background process) or Fdroid to update one app.
What do you think about an update checker in AdAway or publish releases on APKMirror?

Ok. It's clear now. I guess the actual implementation will enable the feature but it will not work if you try to enable it.Maybe I didn't make my self clear. I have SuperSU 2.78 SR3, but I'm not systemless. Will the systemless option be greyed out? That's what it should be.
That's why I should disable the feature in case of system root.Without systemless root you have no su.img to store hosts or the su.d script in, so what you're suggesting makes no sense.
Besides, if you're modifying system for root, there's no benefit to not modifying again for hosts.

I need to handle this case. Thanks for letting me know about it.

I'll rework the settings once again to fix it
Thanks all for your ideas and your tests.

I've installed the version 3.2 (preview) over AdAway 3.1.2. (incl. systemless-hosts-zip)I was looking for the same answer and this really didn't help. I'm currently on 7.1 with the systemless zip flashed using a "older" version of adaway. I just saw there is a new version that doesn't require the systemless zip flash. Are there any problems using the updated adaway made for systemless root if we already have the systemless zip flashed?

It is working.
Most probably an android problem. Maybe open an issue report on GitHub.I use Adaway non-rooted via VPN on a xiaomi redmi note 13 pro+. It works fine, except that it does not automatically start after a reboot. Any ideas why not?
I did:
Ever since I set the Always-on VPN, I get a message after reboot (before providing the unlock code for the first time): "Disconnected from always-on VPN — Change network or VPN settings".
- Selected "Background autostart"
- Set Battery saver to "No restrictions"
- Set Always-on VPN in preferences
- Set Block connections without VPN" in preferences
Adaway is supposed to start automatically after a reboot, right?
Thanks for helping!
It's always blatently (NEVER automatically )asks me on a data clear, just tried it and gotI have been using Adaway, both rooted and non root versions, for several years. My phone broke last week, and while I wait for a replacement I am using a borrowed stock Oneplus 9. It is running Android 14, with no other VPN apps. When I install Adaway, it installs the root version, so I get a systemless host error. It used to install the correct version automatically, is there any way to force it to install the non root version?
GitLab, like GitHub do not set LastModified HTTP header so update status is not supported... yet!Is anyone using a hosts list hosted on Gitlab? It keeps showing "Unknown update status".
It works well here. I failed to reproduce as I change the HTTP client library and how I use it.Hmm, not working for me for this URL, v4.1.0 shows something like not updated in -360 days (some large negative value). Can you please see if you can reproduce?

Not really. You could choose a lot of different mode. All the F-Droid apps I know of have manual push updates to the store.
Isn't automatic build basically for nightlies?
Thank you so much! :highfive:I exist still... do you know what i have to do to transfer ownership? if i edit project it doesn't let me change the primary author so i assume i have to PM some higher up to make this happen?
Thank you too!
