I'm just using host:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/St...s/master/hosts

Works great, I found stock adaway hosts weren't blocking as much seems like one host got removed so I moved to Steven Black host.

Does the host source for you say that online and local is working?

Hi no it doesn't. But when you check the host file it is there. If you prefer to have adaway to show online/local status use one of the non github mirror links. These are only http and not https links though.

So, did you:

- Disable Ad Blocking
- Reboot the phone
- ". . ." -> Log DNS Requests
- Change from TCPDUMP IS NOT RUNNING! to TCPDUMP IS RUNNING!
- Run the app (tvstream?)
- Go back to AdAway
- ". . ." -> Log DNS Requests -> Open Log File

???

What that probably means is that the app is bypassing the hosts file, and directly pulling in the ads. AdAway can't do anything about this; this isn't an AdAway issue, and AdAway was never setup to block ad servers from applications that bypass the hosts file. You have some options:

- Pay the app developers their blood-money to make the ads go away (if they offer that option)
- Find another app that performs the same function that doesn't have ads
- Find another app that performs the same function that has ads routed through the hosts file
- Install Xposed, find an Xposed module that suppresses the ads
- Live with it

Then something isn't working correctly on DNS logging.. It should be catching the servers if you're running the app.

What's the name of the app? can you provide a link?

Maybe not. He's trying to figure out whitelist entries. I suspect he needs to run tcpdump while that site is NOT being blocked. If he ran it now (with the 2 lists removed and the app working) he should get entries which he can then add to the whitelist and then re-apply the 2 removed lists.

My original post asked @darrr1 if AdAway was completely disabled and the phone was rebooted; all ad servers should come through and show in the TCP Dump. I got a "Yes ,exactly. The log file is empty."

I'm guessing the app is TVStreams (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ward.tvstreams) from a developer "devaward".

Both with AdAway disabled and AdAway enabled (all three host files) I'm getting a long list in my DNS log. The DNS logging function works fine and I'm seeing entries. I'm also seeing ads. Empty it is not.

Time to get this ad-ridden app off my phone.
